The cause depends on how the video was added. A YouTube page in a Browser Source relies on the webpage and its player; a video file on your computer relies on the Media Source’s Loop setting. If playback stops only when you change scenes or hide the source, check the Browser Source’s visibility options first.
First, identify which source is playing the video
In Streamlabs Desktop, look at the item in the Sources list and open its properties. The relevant controls depend on whether you added a YouTube webpage, a local file, or the Media Share widget.
- Browser Source: displays a web URL, which may be a YouTube page or player. Its playback and repeat behavior belong to the page or player, while Streamlabs settings can affect what happens when the source is hidden or shown. Streamlabs’ Browser Source documentation describes its URL and visibility options.
- Media Source: plays a local file. Its Loop option controls whether the file replays after reaching the end. The OBS Project Media Sources guide documents this control.
- Media Share: is a separate Streamlabs widget source for sharing public YouTube video links, not the same thing as adding a YouTube page as a Browser Source. See Streamlabs’ Media Share setup guide.
If a YouTube video stops when you change scenes
For a Browser Source, open its properties and inspect the visibility settings. Streamlabs documents two options that can interrupt or restart page playback around scene changes:
- Shutdown source when not visible stops the webpage or video while the source is hidden.
- Refresh browser when scene becomes active reloads the page when the source becomes visible again.
If playback should carry on through scene changes, test with these options disabled. Then switch scenes and observe whether the video continues. If you need the page to refresh when returning to a scene, keep that behavior in mind: reloading may restart the player rather than resume where it left off. The exact result can depend on the webpage and player.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If a local video plays once and stops
Select the local-file Media Source, open its properties, and confirm that Loop is enabled. The OBS Project documentation describes Loop as replaying the file after playback completes.
Do not confuse Loop with Restart playback when source becomes active. That setting controls what happens when the source becomes active; by itself, it is not the setting that makes a file replay continuously after it ends. If the file stops at the end of one pass, check Loop first.

If the video was added through Media Share
Treat Media Share as its own widget rather than searching for the local-file Loop checkbox. Streamlabs says Media Share supports public YouTube video links and is added to Streamlabs Desktop as a Media Share source. Its setup guide does not establish that the widget has a repeat option, so do not assume it offers the same controls as a local Media Source or YouTube player.
Use the moment playback stops to narrow it down
| What you observe | Where to check |
|---|---|
| The video stops at the end of one pass | For a local file, verify Loop in Media Source properties. For a YouTube webpage, investigate the player’s repeat behavior; the local-file option does not control it. |
| The video stops or restarts when you hide the source or change scenes | For a Browser Source, test the Shutdown source when not visible and Refresh browser when scene becomes active options. |
| The video is playing through Media Share | Check the widget and its setup rather than treating it as a Browser Source or local Media Source. The cited setup guide does not confirm a repeat control. |
| You cannot tell why it stopped | Note whether playback ended after one pass, stopped only after a scene change, or started over after the page reloaded. Then check the setting that corresponds to that trigger. |
This is a diagnostic path, not proof of a single cause: Streamlabs’ and OBS Project’s documentation describes distinct controls, but does not establish one universal bug behind this symptom across Streamlabs Desktop versions.

What the documentation does—and does not—establish
Browser playback and local-file playback use different loop mechanisms. Streamlabs documents how Browser Source visibility and refresh behavior affect a page; OBS Project documents the local Media Source Loop option; and Streamlabs documents Media Share as a separate widget for public YouTube links. These sources do not compare reliability among the three methods or confirm that every YouTube embed exposes the same repeat controls. For general YouTube streaming setup, Streamlabs also provides its YouTube live-streaming guide; it does not document this particular looping symptom.
