In Streamlabs Desktop, first check whether your installed version offers a playlist-capable VLC video source; its availability and loop controls are not confirmed for every build. If it does not, play the playlist in a separate desktop media player and capture that app’s audio in Streamlabs. The documented repeat and shuffle controls in Streamlabs’ support guide apply to Talk Studio, a different product—not Streamlabs Desktop.
Choose the right method for your Streamlabs product
Streamlabs Desktop and Talk Studio do not have interchangeable instructions. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio background-audio guide documents looping and queue controls for Talk Studio. Desktop documentation covers sources and audio configuration, but does not confirm a standard playlist-repeat workflow for Desktop.
- Talk Studio: use its documented background-audio controls if that is the product you mean.
- Streamlabs Desktop: inspect your installed build for a VLC video source or another source that accepts multiple media files. If none is suitable, use an external player and capture its audio.
Choose based on whether you need the video visible on the stream canvas, how much control you need over track order and repeat, and whether you can capture the player’s audio cleanly.
Check for a playlist source in Streamlabs Desktop
- Confirm you are using Streamlabs Desktop. Do not follow Talk Studio queue instructions as though they describe Desktop.
- Inspect the source options for a VLC video source or another multi-file source. Community reports mention using a VLC source, but this does not establish that it appears in every current build.
- If you find a suitable source, add your files and inspect that source’s own properties. Check whether it provides playlist repeat or loop controls. The exact controls and labels are version-dependent and are not verified in current official Desktop instructions.
- Test the result before streaming. Confirm that the files advance and repeat as intended, and that any video appears correctly on the canvas.
If your build does not expose a suitable playlist source, use the fallback below rather than assuming a particular source or control is present.

Fallback: play the playlist in another app and capture its audio
- Start the playlist in a desktop media player. Set its order and repeat behavior in that player.
- Add or configure Application Audio Capture in Streamlabs Desktop. Select the media player so Streamlabs captures its sound. Streamlabs’ audio-splitting guide explains application audio capture and routing.
- Check for duplicate capture. If Desktop Audio also captures the same player, disable Desktop Audio to avoid echoes, as Streamlabs advises when using Application Audio Capture.
- Watch the audio meters and listen to a test. Streamlabs’ quick-start guide recommends checking that the meters respond before going live. Make a short test recording or private test stream, listen for silence or echoes, and confirm the playlist advances and repeats.
What to do in Talk Studio instead
If you meant Talk Studio rather than Streamlabs Desktop, its official guidance says to open Share, choose Background Audio, then select one track; that single track loops automatically. For multiple files, use the queue’s repeat or shuffle option. These steps describe Talk Studio only.
Common problems and checks
- The playlist source is missing: the VLC-source route is not confirmed for every Desktop build. Use the external-player method if your installed source list has no appropriate playlist source.
- There is no sound in the stream: verify that Application Audio Capture targets the correct player, start playback, and check whether the Streamlabs mixer meter moves.
- The audio echoes or doubles: check whether both Application Audio Capture and Desktop Audio are capturing the same player. Disable Desktop Audio for that player when using app-specific capture.
- The music plays but video is not on the canvas: capturing an app’s audio does not by itself establish that its video is being shown. If video must appear, use a suitable video source if your build offers one and verify it in a test.
- The track plays once and stops: confirm repeat is enabled in the player or source that owns the playlist. Desktop’s exact playlist controls are not established across versions.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos rather than a playlist playing from your Desktop session, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
