For most creators who need a free, flexible setup, OBS Studio is the better starting point; choose XSplit Broadcaster if you use Windows and prefer its workflow or need a specific paid feature. Neither encoder guarantees a 24/7 stream. Your operating system, sustained upload speed, power and equipment determine whether the stream stays live in your location.
Can you use XSplit or OBS for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Yes. YouTube supports encoder-based continuous streams as well as scheduled live streams, and its encoder help lists XSplit Broadcaster as an option. That establishes platform compatibility, not uninterrupted operation: an encoder cannot prevent a local power failure, ISP outage, computer crash or stream-key problem. YouTube’s guidance is at YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
OBS Studio also supports YouTube encoder workflows. The encoder sends video to YouTube’s ingest service; OBS does not provide the streaming server. The connection between your computer and the ingest server is a separate link that can fail.
XSplit vs OBS: the practical differences
| Factor | XSplit Broadcaster | OBS Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Operating systems | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, according to XSplit’s requirements. | Windows, macOS and Linux, subject to OBS’s stated system requirements. |
| Cost and license | Free tier and paid plans. XSplit says free streaming up to 720p is watermark-free and adds a logo above that resolution; its free-license FAQ also states a four-scene maximum. Check the current terms before relying on the free tier. | Free and open source, with no watermark or commercial-use restriction according to OBS’s help portal. |
| Workflow | Offers platform integrations, custom RTMP and premium multistreaming features. Choose it if its workflow or a particular feature fits your setup. | Offers configurable scenes and audio/video settings; the Auto-Configuration Wizard is a sensible starting point. Expect to tune settings for your machine and connection. |
| 24/7 capability | Listed by YouTube as an encoder option. This is not an uptime guarantee. | Can be used in YouTube encoder workflows. Compatibility does not guarantee that a particular computer can sustain the chosen stream settings. |
For current XSplit requirements and product terms, see XSplit Broadcaster system requirements, XSplit Broadcaster and XSplit’s free-license FAQ. OBS’s requirements and license details are in its system requirements and help portal.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which one should you choose?
Choose OBS if you want a free, cross-platform encoder
OBS is the straightforward choice if you are on macOS or Linux, want a no-cost open-source application, or value granular scene and audio/video configuration. OBS warns: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” The encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity all affect performance.
Choose XSplit if you use Windows and its workflow suits you
XSplit is worth considering on Windows if you prefer its guided workflow or need a particular feature such as a premium multistreaming option. Its published minimum requirements are a second-generation Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce- or Radeon-class GPU with DirectX 10.1 or better. XSplit lists 500 kbps minimum upload for its lowest streaming settings; its product page recommends a fourth-generation Core i5 for 720p, a fourth-generation Core i7 for 1080p and 5 Mbps upload for HD. These are vendor-published baselines, not proof that a given scene, workload or 24/7 installation will perform reliably.

Check your Indian setup before going live
There is no India-wide upload-speed or ISP rule that establishes whether a 24/7 encoder stream will work. Measure the connection and test the actual route from the computer and location you plan to use. An advertised broadband speed or a one-time speed test does not establish sustained upload during the hours you will stream.

- Confirm your computer and OS. Check the current XSplit or OBS requirements, then test the intended resolution, frame rate, encoder and scene on the actual machine. Leave headroom for other processes rather than treating a minimum specification as a continuous-stream target.
- Measure sustained upload. Test at the streaming location and at different times, including busy evening periods. Set the encoder bitrate below what the connection can sustain reliably. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee; stay within YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance.
- Prefer wired Ethernet when practical. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable. Ethernet reduces one potential source of connection variability, but it does not prevent ISP, router or power outages.
- Run a long-duration test. Stream privately or unlisted for a representative period, watch the encoder’s connection and dropped-frame indicators, and confirm YouTube receives the stream. Repeat under the conditions that matter to your channel.
- Check power and recovery plans. Consider what happens if the computer, router or electricity fails. The right backup depends on your equipment load and the interruptions at your location; these sources do not establish a suitable UPS model or battery runtime for you.
OBS explains dropped frames and connection troubleshooting at OBS: Dropped frames and general connection issues. If your streaming PC relies on Wi-Fi, an Ethernet cable is a practical alternative to test—not a guarantee of uptime.
Set expectations for a continuous YouTube stream
Keeping an encoder connected is only one part of running a 24/7 channel. Decide separately how a continuous stream fits your archive, moderation and monetization goals. YouTube supports continuous streams, but that does not mean a single uninterrupted broadcast is the right format for every channel.

For Indian channels in particular, do not treat ownership or permission to play music, bhajans, kirtan, Gurbani or other recordings as automatic. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the material and understand YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization rules before broadcasting. A software choice does not resolve copyright claims or reused-content eligibility.
