You can use PRISM Live Studio Desktop to send a continuous live feed to YouTube, but it is a do-it-yourself setup: the computer, PRISM, power and internet connection all need to keep working. YouTube does not guarantee that a stream longer than 12 hours will be archived, either. Follow the setup below, test it before relying on it, and make a separate local recording if you need a complete copy.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility and your computer
YouTube encoder streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the channel’s first time going live, enable live streaming in advance: YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
PRISM Desktop is the encoder in this workflow. Its published Windows minimums are Windows 10/11 64-bit, an Intel Core i3-9100 or higher, 8 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or equivalent. PRISM’s general streaming recommendations are an Intel Core i5-8500 or higher, at least 16 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2070 or equivalent. Its game-streaming recommendations are an Intel Core i7-9800/i9-9820 or higher, at least 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3060 Ti or equivalent. For macOS, PRISM lists Apple Silicon and macOS 12.3 as the minimum. These are PRISM’s published specifications, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation for days at a time. Set up YouTube and get the stream credentials

Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a stream or select an existing one.

Set the stream’s title, description, visibility and other event options. Choose the settings you intend viewers to see on its watch page.

Locate the stream URL and stream key for the event. The key is a credential that directs an encoder to your stream; keep it private and do not show it in a screen capture or public post. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room using YouTube’s live-stream settings.
Build and connect your PRISM Desktop scene

Open PRISM Live Studio Desktop and create or select a scene. Add the source or sources your broadcast needs, such as a game capture, video, image or screen capture. Confirm that the intended video and audio appear in the preview.

Open PRISM’s streaming or platform connection controls. Use the YouTube connection option if the current PRISM build offers it. Otherwise, select the custom RTMP/RTMPS route and enter the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. PRISM’s interface may change between versions, so follow the labels shown in your installed build rather than assuming a particular menu path.

Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate in PRISM. Match the output to YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table, which varies by codec, resolution and frame rate. For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS, the listed video codec options are H.264, H.265 and AV1; audio options include AAC and MP3. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with intervals not exceeding four seconds. It recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP.

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously, not just during a brief speed test. YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate below available upload capacity and leaving about 20% upload headroom. Upload speed—not download speed—is the key measure for sending the stream.
Test the feed before making it a long-running stream

Start with a private or unlisted test if that suits your channel and event. Include representative gameplay or other motion, and test all audio sources at realistic levels.

Check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room for picture, sound and stream health. Open the watch page separately and confirm the intended audience can access it.

Check that a local recording is being created and that its file is growing. Let the test run long enough to reveal issues that a quick connection check could miss, then review the recording for dropped frames, missing audio or other faults.

For a continuous broadcast, arrange a way to check the computer, encoder, network and YouTube ingest while it is running. This setup depends on all of them remaining available; do not treat it as unattended or guaranteed.
Keep PRISM connected reliably
PRISM identifies local network instability, insufficient upload speed, weak Wi-Fi and firewall or security software interference as possible causes of YouTube RTMP disconnections. It recommends wired LAN rather than Wi-Fi for more consistent transmission. An Ethernet connection can reduce one source of variability, but cannot prevent a power outage, ISP interruption, encoder crash or YouTube-side problem. If the stream disconnects intermittently, switch from Wi-Fi to wired Ethernet where possible, then check whether upload capacity is stable and remains above the stream’s total bitrate with headroom.

If a connection attempt fails, check that the stream URL and key match the selected YouTube event, that the event is active, and that firewall or security software is not blocking the encoder.

Reduce output demands or scene complexity if the computer struggles. PRISM’s system specifications are starting points, not a promise that every combination of sources and settings will run continuously.

PRISM also documents a failed-connection case associated with IPv6/ISP changes in certain countries. Use its failed connection guidance only if the symptoms and regional circumstances match; its IPv4-only advice is not a general fix for every connection problem.
Plan for YouTube archives and DVR separately
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a 24-hour broadcast as one replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its advice is to keep a local recording as a backup; verify that the recording is progressing and that the finished file is intact. Details are in YouTube’s archive guidance.

YouTube’s Live Control Room has a DVR setting that can let viewers pause and rewind, but DVR may be limited or unavailable as a stream extends beyond 12 hours. Do not promise viewers that rewind will remain available throughout a 24/7 broadcast; see Manage live stream settings and Turn on DVR on live streams.
Protect the channel and the content
Use only video, music, game footage and other material you have the rights or permission to stream. A valid stream key does not grant content rights, and a technical connection test does not establish that a broadcast complies with YouTube’s policies.
