A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To stream a playlist at 4K 60fps with Streamlabs Desktop, connect the app to a YouTube encoder livestream, add and test your video source, then set a 3840×2160 output at 60fps. For YouTube’s current 2160p60 ingest guidance, use H.264 at 35 Mbps or AV1/H.265 at 10–40 Mbps, with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Your source, encoder, and upload connection all need to sustain the settings.
Before you set up the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the event day. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility help explains the requirements.
- Confirm permission for every video and audio track. You are responsible for having rights to rebroadcast the playlist. A video being publicly viewable or purchased does not by itself establish that you may stream it.
- Check the source files and computer. 4K60 means 2160p output at 60 frames per second. The files, encoder, and computer must be able to handle that workload; a 4K60 setting cannot add detail or smooth motion that is absent from the source.
- Plan for upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom. At a 35 Mbps video bitrate, that arithmetic suggests at least 42 Mbps available upload capacity, before audio and other network traffic. It is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed speed-test threshold.
YouTube’s live video must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Review eligibility and content rules before scheduling the broadcast.
Create the YouTube encoder livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream using an encoder. Select the event’s intended visibility and schedule.
- In the event’s Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key. Copy them into Streamlabs Desktop’s streaming configuration and select YouTube as the service if the app offers that choice.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your event. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update Streamlabs with the new key.
- Leave the Live Control Room open for the test and broadcast so you can inspect the incoming preview and stream health.
YouTube recommends RTMPS when available. Its current encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS ingest and recommends using a secure connection where supported: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Add and verify the playlist source in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open the scene you intend to broadcast and add the local video or media source. Streamlabs documents media files such as MP4 and media-source looping behavior in its media source guide.
- Configure the source to play or loop as needed, using the controls available in your installed Streamlabs Desktop version. The exact current playlist-specific menu labels are not established here, so verify the controls in the app rather than relying on a guessed path.
- Preview the scene and let the video reach its end during a test. Confirm it restarts as expected, that the next playlist item loads if applicable, and that audio continues without gaps or an unintended repeat.
- Check that the source fits the canvas without cropping, stretching, or black bars you did not intend. A 16:9 4K source normally matches a 3840×2160 canvas; other aspect ratios need a deliberate layout.
Streamlabs notes that media-source caching behavior can affect playback. If a file does not load or restart reliably, inspect the source settings and test again with the actual files before going live.

Set Streamlabs to 4K at 60fps
Video settings
- In Streamlabs Desktop, open Settings > Video.
- Set the base (canvas) resolution to 3840×2160 and the output (scaled) resolution to 3840×2160, if your source and machine support that output.
- Set the frame rate to 60 FPS. Streamlabs documents these controls in its Video settings guide.
Output and encoder settings
In Streamlabs Desktop’s output settings, choose an encoder your computer can run reliably, then configure it against YouTube’s current 2160p60 recommendations:
| Setting | YouTube guidance for 2160p60 |
|---|---|
| H.264 video bitrate | 35 Mbps recommended |
| AV1 or H.265 video bitrate | 10–40 Mbps |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; use RTMPS when available |
These figures are YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for 2160p60, not a promise that every encoder or connection will sustain the stream. Pick AV1 or H.265 only if your chosen Streamlabs encoder and YouTube ingest setup support it reliably. YouTube’s table lists AV1/H.265 together for the stated bitrate range; it does not establish that either codec is the best choice for every PC. Check YouTube’s current encoder table if its recommendations change.

A Streamlabs article has published a different 4K60 bitrate range, but YouTube’s current ingest table is the relevant authority for what YouTube recommends receiving. Avoid combining figures from different recommendations as though they were one target.
Test the connection and broadcast
- Run a representative test with the actual playlist, motion, and audio. Confirm Streamlabs is sending the intended 3840×2160, 60fps output and that the selected encoder is not overloaded.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and health indicators. A correct local preview does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Make sure available upload capacity has room for the video bitrate, audio, and other household or office traffic. YouTube recommends 20% headroom; close or pause competing uploads if the connection is unstable.
- Once the preview and health look right, start the event as scheduled in YouTube Studio. Keep monitoring the encoder and Live Control Room while it is live.
- For a scheduled event, YouTube’s live-stream tips recommend setup at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. This gives time to catch ingest or configuration problems before viewers arrive. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
YouTube transcodes live streams so viewers can receive available playback formats. The source feed can be configured for 4K60, but a viewer’s actual rendition depends on their device, connection, and YouTube processing. YouTube also says 4K streams use normal latency rather than low latency.

If 4K60 is unstable, choose reliability over the maximum setting
If the stream drops frames, buffers, or reports poor health, first determine whether the encoder is overloaded or the upload path is insufficient. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution until the feed is stable, or improve the connection and encoder capacity before restoring 4K60. A lower stable profile is preferable to a nominal 4K60 stream that repeatedly fails.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | Wrong service, stream URL, or key; live streaming not enabled; encoder not started | Confirm the event is open in Live Control Room, re-check the URL/key in Streamlabs, and verify channel eligibility. Replace a compromised key in YouTube Studio. |
| Stream health warns of insufficient bitrate | Upload capacity is below the configured bitrate, or competing traffic is consuming bandwidth | Check available upload capacity and other network use. YouTube advises 20% headroom; lower bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot hold the target. |
| Dropped frames or unstable output | Network instability or encoder/computer load | Inspect Streamlabs encoder status and YouTube health messages. Reduce resolution or bitrate, use a supported encoder that performs reliably, or improve the network before retrying. |
| Video looks soft or is not delivered at 4K | Source is lower resolution, output is scaled, or YouTube/viewer rendition differs from the ingest feed | Check the source’s actual resolution, both Streamlabs resolution settings, and the Live Control Room preview. Viewer playback quality can vary after YouTube transcodes the stream. |
| Playlist stops or fails to advance | Source loop or playlist behavior is not configured as intended, or a media file fails to load | Test each item and the end-of-file transition in the scene before broadcast. Review the media source controls in your installed app version; do not assume a playlist advances merely because the first file plays. |
| No audio, gaps, or unexpected repeats | Source audio is muted, routing differs from the intended scene, or playback/loop behavior is wrong | Monitor the actual stream test, check the scene’s audio meters and source playback, and verify transitions with the playlist files you will use. |
