For several devotional video files, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add the files in the order you want and leave Loop Playlist enabled. For just one video, OBS’s built-in Media Source is simpler; enable Loop. Either way, OBS loops playback locally, while YouTube Live still needs a separately configured encoder stream.
Choose the right OBS source

Set up a devotional video playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if needed. The VLC Video source appears only when VLC is installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC, according to the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, select the scene you will use, then in the Sources dock choose + and add VLC Video. Add your video files in the order they should play. Leave Loop Playlist on for continuous repetition. For one file instead, add Media Source and enable Loop.
- Arrange the scene. Size and position the video to fit your output. OBS renders sources higher in the Sources list above sources lower in the list. Put a title, lyrics, or logo above the video only if you want it layered on top. See the OBS Sources Guide.
- Check playback before connecting. Confirm the files play in the intended order, audio is audible, and the final item returns to the start of the playlist. If you use overlays, make sure they do not cover important text or imagery.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s platform-wide guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. Check your channel’s status and any restrictions in YouTube Studio; the requirements are not specific to India. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream for encoder software. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS stream settings, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream URL and key if configuring the server manually. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your event. YouTube describes the encoder connection in Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the event public. Stopping the encoder ends the stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; confirm privacy and archive settings for the specific event. See Get started with live streaming.
Use compatible output settings and a reliable connection
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists constant bitrate (CBR), H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe frequency, with a maximum of four seconds. It recommends RTMPS. Use a bitrate suited to your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than copying a number without regard to your connection; test with representative movement and audio, and monitor stream health. - YouTube recommends maintaining 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. This is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee that a variable connection will stay stable.
- YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. These are preparation recommendations, not mandatory waiting periods.
- Use a wired connection when practical, avoid saturating the upload connection with other activity, and test the complete scene—including overlays and audio—before the event.

Copyright and monetization still apply to devotional streams
A devotional subject does not automatically make a recording free to rebroadcast. Make sure you have the necessary rights for the video, sound recording, composition, performance, and any other material in the stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may replace the picture, issue a warning, interrupt, or terminate a stream. Even with a license, a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Live status or long runtime does not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and says repetitive or mass-produced content may be considered inauthentic. It describes the need for videos to be materially varied and provide creative, educational, or other value. That policy is not a ruling on any particular devotional channel; channel eligibility depends on YouTube’s review. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- VLC Video is missing: Install VLC, then restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops after the last file: Open the VLC Video source’s settings and check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Only one video repeats: A Media Source loops a single file. Use VLC Video for a sequence of files.
- A title or logo is hidden behind the video: In the Sources dock, move the overlay above the video source, since higher sources render on top.
- YouTube shows no incoming picture: Check that OBS is streaming, the event’s stream URL and key are correct, and the event preview is receiving the scene. Keep the key private; replace it in YouTube Studio if it may have been exposed.
- The stream stutters or loses quality: Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback, reduce output demands if they exceed the connection’s capacity, and preserve the recommended upload headroom. Confirm the encoder’s CBR, codec, audio, and keyframe settings.
- The stream is interrupted after a rights match: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and resolve the rights issue; a license may not prevent interruption unless the rights owner has allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
