To run a 24/7 YouTube music stream, send a continuously playing playlist to YouTube Live through an encoder. You can use software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder; the key steps are to meet YouTube’s live-streaming requirements, connect the encoder with your stream URL and key, test the feed, and keep it running. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the necessary rights to every track.
Before you set up the stream
Activate live streaming on your channel
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. You must also be at least 16. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Get the rights to the music
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions require you to have all necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Buying a song or subscribing to a consumer music service does not by itself establish that you can rebroadcast the recording on YouTube. The licenses required depend on the tracks, rights holders, territories and use.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it identifies copyrighted material, it may replace your feed with a placeholder, warn you to stop using the material, or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even when you have a license, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and keep documentation of your permissions.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose how to send the playlist
The playlist must produce a continuous audio-and-video feed, and an encoder must send that feed to YouTube Live. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; a dedicated hardware device is not required. Choose based on whether your existing computer can run the playlist and encoder continuously, whether you need external production inputs, and how you will monitor and recover the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide lists verified options, but does not establish that one particular encoder is required.
- Software encoder: Useful when a computer can play the playlist and encode the outgoing feed. The computer and its internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue.
- Standalone hardware encoder: An option if you prefer a dedicated device or need external production hardware. Check its compatibility and requirements before choosing one.
A capture card, audio interface or microphone can suit some production workflows, but none is inherently necessary for a prerecorded playlist stream.

Set up and start the live stream
- Prepare a continuous feed. Arrange your music playlist and the video that will accompany it, then configure your encoder to play or schedule the items continuously. Check transitions, audio levels and whether the playlist ends or repeats as intended.
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in its live stream with an encoder guide.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the matching encoder fields. The key is a credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Keep it private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.
- Test before going public. If useful, test privately or as an unlisted stream. Check the Live Control Room preview, audio and video quality, and playback from the channel’s watch page. Confirm that the intended audience can access the stream.
- Start the encoder output. Send the playlist feed to YouTube and confirm the Live Control Room receives it before starting or scheduling the public broadcast. YouTube’s stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop options; check their state so the encoder and broadcast behave as intended.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check that the playlist continues, audio remains audible and the stream stays connected. YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the total stream bitrate to leave headroom for fluctuations; this is guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. More tips are in YouTube’s streaming tips.
What to expect from a continuous broadcast
A 24/7 stream is not necessarily one full-day replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be archived as one complete replay. If a complete replay matters, plan separate recordings or broadcasts rather than relying on a single all-day archive.
Continuous operation needs monitoring and recovery
A playlist can continue only while the playback and encoding setup remains active and the feed reaches YouTube. With a computer-based encoder, that means keeping the computer and connection available. Whichever setup you choose, check for encoder or network interruptions and be ready to restore the feed. YouTube may also interrupt a stream over copyright matches, regardless of whether the playlist itself is looping correctly.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and live-stream eligibility. If you have only just enabled live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key from the intended YouTube Studio stream. Make sure the encoder is actually sending its output.
- The stream stalls or drops: Check the computer or encoder, playlist playback and internet connection. Compare available upload capacity with the total stream bitrate; YouTube recommends 20% headroom.
- The stream is interrupted despite a valid setup: Check YouTube Studio for a copyright notice. Confirm that you hold the rights needed for the use and ask the rights holder whether channel allowlisting is required.
- Viewers cannot watch the stream: Confirm the stream’s audience and visibility settings, then test playback from the watch page using an account or browser that reflects the intended audience.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: Do not assume YouTube will create a single complete archive of a 24/7 broadcast; its stated automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours.
