A 24/7 YouTube stream at 10 Mbps sends about 3.24 decimal TB of video payload in a 30-day month; at 12 Mbps, about 3.89 TB. Both are below Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s published 10 TB/month free public-internet-egress allowance—provided other outbound traffic in the tenancy does not use up the same allowance. A 35 Mbps stream sends about 11.34 TB, while 50 Mbps sends about 16.20 TB, so those examples exceed it.
These figures estimate the encoder’s outbound feed to YouTube, not the traffic generated by viewers watching the stream. Egress is only one part of an OCI deployment’s bill: compute, storage, and network resources may add costs.
How much egress does a 24/7 YouTube stream use?
For a constant encoder bitrate, estimate monthly payload with this formula:
Monthly decimal TB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 0.324
This assumes a 30-day month (2,592,000 seconds) and decimal units, where 1 TB is 1,000 GB. The result is an estimate of video payload, not a guarantee of the exact number OCI will meter.

The bitrate recommendations are from YouTube’s live encoder settings. The overage estimates use an illustrative rate inferred from Oracle’s North America example described below; they are not current regional quotes.
What OCI’s 10 TB free allowance covers
Oracle’s VCN pricing page lists the first 10 TB per month of public internet egress as free. Oracle’s Always Free documentation also describes 10 TB of outbound data transfer per month as an Always Free resource. Treat this as a shared allowance for the tenancy, not a separate 10 TB reserved for each YouTube channel. Other outbound workloads can consume part of it.

Consequently, the 10 and 12 Mbps examples stay within the allowance only if the tenancy’s other applicable egress leaves enough room. The 35 and 50 Mbps examples exceed 10 TB on their own under the stated assumptions.
What an overage might cost—and why it is only an estimate
Oracle Cloud Economics published a North America example with prices dated December 6, 2024: 50 TB/month, the first 10,000 GB free, and an OCI cost of $0.47 per hour using 730 hours per month. Multiplying $0.47 by 730 gives about $343 for that example month. Spread across the 40,000 GB above the free threshold, that implies roughly $0.0085 per GB.

Using that dated, inferred figure, 1.34 TB above the threshold is approximately $11.39, and 6.20 TB is approximately $52.70. This calculation is illustrative, not a separately quoted Oracle rate. It does not establish the current price for your region or how your specific tenancy’s usage will be aggregated and rounded. Why viewer count is not the OCI stream-egress multiplier
The OCI bandwidth in this calculation is the encoder’s outbound feed to YouTube. YouTube says it automatically transcodes live streams into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. The creator’s OCI feed is therefore not multiplied by the audience size to estimate OCI egress; this calculation does not model YouTube’s own distribution or costs.

Use the sustained stream bitrate—not the viewer count—as the input to the estimate. If the bitrate varies, payload will vary too.

YouTube recommends leaving about 20% extra capacity on the upload connection and says the total outgoing bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. That is connection headroom for stability; do not automatically add 20% to the video-payload calculation as though it were another stream. YouTube’s encoder settings provide recommended bitrates, while its streaming tips discuss connection capacity.

Before relying on a continuous feed, test with realistic audio and motion and check YouTube’s stream health. A static or low-motion recording may not behave like a busy gameplay scene, and connection capacity should be assessed against the total outgoing stream bitrate.
What this estimate leaves out of an OCI bill
Egress is just one cost component. The complete monthly cost depends on the OCI region, compute instance and runtime, storage, IP and network resources, architecture, and any other services you use. The bitrate calculation cannot determine those charges without those deployment details. Metered transfer can also differ from payload estimates because of stream variability, protocol overhead, the exact billing period, other tenancy egress, and Oracle’s billing units and rounding.
