To draw where viewers can see it, put the marks into the video you send: for an OBS broadcast, use an OBS drawing plugin or a browser-source overlay. A desktop annotation layer may show only on your own monitor, so verify it appears in OBS’s program output before relying on it. For a Zoom or Microsoft Teams screen-share meeting, use the app’s built-in annotation controls instead.
Choose a method that puts the drawing in the right place
Start by deciding where the audience needs to see the marks. OBS viewers see the composed OBS output, not necessarily everything visible on your desktop. Meeting annotations belong to the meeting’s shared content and follow that platform’s permissions. A local desktop utility can draw over screen content, but check whether its marks are captured in the broadcast or share.

Draw on an OBS stream
Option 1: Use OBS Draw
The OBS Forums page for Draw describes a dock for drawing on stream output. Its resource listing identifies version 0.3.1, Windows, macOS, and Linux support, and a listed minimum OBS version of 28.0.0. The update history says version 0.3.0 requires OBS 31.1 or higher and adds OBS 32 support. Those version details differ by release, so check the current resource page and the instructions for the version you intend to install.
- Check the plugin’s current OBS and operating-system requirements on its resource page before installing.
- Install it using the instructions for the version you selected, then open its dock in OBS.
- Make a private recording or unlisted rehearsal. Draw while watching OBS’s program output, not just the local desktop, to confirm the marks appear to viewers.
- Check how the dock controls drawing and clearing in your version, and rehearse those actions before a live broadcast.
Option 2: Draw on the preview or add a canvas

Choose preview drawing when you want to mark up the current scene. Choose a canvas layer when you want a dedicated surface for explaining a diagram. Confirm that the marks appear in the program output, and rehearse undoing, erasing, or clearing them so annotations do not linger after they stop being useful.
Option 3: Draw from a phone, tablet, or another computer
WebRTC-Telestrator describes a host browser and a remote browser workflow: choose a display on the OBS host, open the remote browser on a phone, tablet, or PC, draw over the displayed content, and include the returned marks in OBS through a browser source.

- Set up the host side and select the display you want to annotate.
- Connect from the remote device’s browser and check that it can view the selected display.
- Add the resulting browser source to the appropriate OBS scene, following the resource’s setup instructions.
- Test visibility, mark placement, and clearing in a private recording or unlisted rehearsal before going live.
This approach is useful when you want a separate drawing surface. It adds a browser-source element to your OBS scene, so make sure that element is visible and positioned correctly in the composition.
Option 4: Use a desktop annotation utility
The OBS Forums page for SHARA describes a Windows utility with a radial menu, pen, marker, shapes, eraser, laser, magnifier, spotlight, and live zoom. The page states compatibility with OBS, Zoom, Teams, and screen recording or sharing tools. It also describes a free trial and points to Microsoft Store availability; check the page and store listing for current availability, pricing, and terms.

Because a desktop drawing layer is not necessarily part of OBS’s output, verify capture in your exact setup. If it does not appear in the recording or program output, use an OBS-integrated drawing method instead.
Annotate a screen share in Zoom or Teams
Zoom
Zoom’s annotation guide documents tools including a pen, highlighter, arrows, shapes, text, color and line-width controls, erasing, undo/redo, and spotlight. The available controls vary by device and platform. The host can enable or disable annotation for other participants.

On iOS, Zoom says a whole-screen share cannot be annotated, while a shared portion can. If annotation is missing, check the share type, device-specific instructions, and whether the host has allowed participant annotations.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft describes Teams annotation as powered by Whiteboard. While sharing content, turn annotation on from the presenter toolbar. The presenter can allow everyone to annotate or limit annotation to themselves, and Teams documents saving an annotation snapshot to a Whiteboard file. Make annotations readable and easy to control
- Check the audience view: confirm marks in OBS program output or the actual meeting share, not only on your own display.
- Pick the simplest input: a mouse is sufficient for basic arrows or highlights; touch or a tablet can provide pen input. A second device is an option when you want a separate surface.
- Plan how marks disappear: learn the eraser, undo, clear, or hide controls before presenting. Temporary pointing and persistent diagrams need different cleanup habits.
- Rehearse the whole scene: test annotation visibility, placement, and cleanup in a private recording or unlisted rehearsal. This is especially important when combining a plugin, a browser source, or a desktop overlay.
- Check current compatibility: plugin requirements and platform interfaces can change. Verify the resource page or official support page for your OS, OBS version, device, and app edition before a broadcast.
Troubleshooting drawing that viewers cannot see
