Eligible creators in India can tag products in YouTube live streams and may earn commissions when viewers make qualifying purchases. But YouTube’s published guidance does not say whether an uninterrupted 24/7 stream receives different treatment, so no one should treat product-tagging income across a continuous broadcast as guaranteed. A separate limit: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays; that warning concerns archiving, not an explicit ban on live tags or commissions.
Who in India can use YouTube Shopping affiliate tags?
India is on YouTube’s list of countries where eligible creators can use the Shopping affiliate program. Eligibility is not automatic: YouTube says creators must be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and meet the applicable YPP subscriber threshold. The channel must not be a music channel, an Official Artist Channel, or associated with music partners. The audience must not be set as Made for Kids, and the channel must not have a significant number of videos set as made for kids. YouTube says qualified creators can sign up in the Earn area of YouTube Studio when the affiliate section is available. Check YouTube’s current Shopping affiliate program requirements; access remains eligibility-dependent.
The title alone cannot establish whether a particular channel qualifies, whether its affiliate access is enabled, or whether a particular seller’s products are available to its viewers.
How product tags and commissions work on a live stream
Eligible creators can tag products during live streams. Viewers can open YouTube’s Shopping control to see tagged items. For products from other brands, the items need to be available through participating retailers, and product display depends on delivery and geographic availability. A tag is therefore not a guarantee that every viewer can see or buy the product.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube advises tagging items that are prominently featured, meaningfully related to the stream, and used safely. Product tags can be prepared before a broadcast; YouTube recommends completing them at least 30 minutes before going live for the best viewer experience. Tags may also be added during the stream, though updates may not appear for some viewers who are already watching. See YouTube’s live-stream product tagging guidance.
A commission is purchase-based, not a payment for simply keeping a stream live. YouTube says enrolled creators may earn commissions when viewers buy products tagged in videos, Shorts, or live streams. The rate displayed in Studio is an estimate based on the current rate; the payout uses the rate in effect on the purchase date. Depending on the program terms, a creator may also earn a commission if a viewer follows a tag to the merchant and buys other products there. YouTube explains affiliate commissions and program terms here.

What changes when the stream runs 24/7?
YouTube’s published guidance confirms that live streams can carry product tags, but it does not specifically resolve whether an uninterrupted 24/7 stream is treated differently for Shopping eligibility, tag visibility, or commission accrual. It does not guarantee that tags or commissions will remain active for the entire duration. If a revenue plan depends on continuous operation, confirm the current interpretation with YouTube Creator Support rather than assuming that a rule for ordinary live streams settles the 24/7 case.
There is a distinct archive limitation. YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you,” and warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, “it may not be captured at all.” This is about whether YouTube saves a replay. The guidance does not say that a stream over 12 hours cannot remain live, show tags, or earn commissions while it is broadcasting. Do not confuse replay availability with live Shopping eligibility. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Content and disclosure checks before tagging
- Check whether tags can appear: YouTube says tags will not be shown on certain streams, including content with claimed material, streams associated with Official Artist Channels or music partners, made-for-kids content, paid content, or content considered limited or ineligible for monetization.
- Clear the rights: Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. You need rights to the material you use, including music.
- Make the product genuinely relevant: Feature it prominently, relate it meaningfully to the stream, and use it safely. Do not tag an item merely to attach a commission opportunity.
- Check availability: Confirm that the seller participates and that the product can be delivered to the intended audience; availability can vary by viewer location.
- Tell viewers about commissions: YouTube recommends that creators say they earn commission on purchases and emphasize that they recommend only products they genuinely believe in. Follow current FTC guidance or the applicable country’s equivalent for paid endorsements. See YouTube’s live affiliate guidance.
Three distinctions that prevent mistaken expectations
| Question | What it means |
|---|---|
| Own-store products or other brands? | YouTube distinguishes tagging products from a connected creator store from affiliate tagging of other brands. Other-brand affiliate tags require program eligibility and participating sellers. |
| Live tags or replay reach? | A product tag may be available during a live broadcast, while a stream over 12 hours may not be captured as a replay. These are separate features. |
| Displayed rate or final commission? | The Studio rate is an estimate; the rate in effect when the viewer purchases governs the commission. |
YouTube reports that shopping-related videos generated 30 billion watch hours globally in 2023, and that watch time for videos that help people shop on YouTube increased by over 25% in 2023 (YouTube Internal Data, Global; the increase was reported in 2024). These are platform-wide figures, not forecasts for an individual creator or a 24/7 stream. YouTube’s Made on YouTube 2023 announcement.
