Yes—you can put 720p and 1080p videos in the same YouTube playlist. Upload each file, add the resulting videos to a playlist, then arrange their order. You do not need to convert them to a common resolution first: YouTube’s player adapts to each video individually, while the quality available to a viewer depends on the video and their device and connection.
A playlist plays videos in sequence; it is not a continuous live broadcast. If by “playlist stream” you mean a YouTube live stream made from uploaded files, that is a separate setup.
How to make a playlist from mixed 720p and 1080p files
- Upload each file. In YouTube Studio, upload the videos individually. During upload, you can add a video to an existing playlist or create a new one. YouTube processes uploads for playback across devices and network conditions.
- Create the playlist. In YouTube Studio, select Create → New playlist, enter a title and description, choose the visibility, set the arrangement, add videos, and create the playlist. You can also add videos later from search, a URL, or your library.
- Add videos from their watch pages if preferred. Open a video, select More → Save → Create new playlist, choose visibility, and create it. Use the save action on the other videos to add them to that playlist.
- Set the sequence. Drag videos into the order you want. The order determines which video plays next; it does not force the videos to use the same resolution.
- Check processing before judging quality. Newly uploaded videos may initially be available only in low quality. Wait for HD processing to finish before expecting 720p or 1080p playback options to appear.
Can I put 720p and 1080p videos in the same playlist?
Yes. A playlist is a collection of videos, and its videos do not have to share a resolution. For a 16:9 image, 720p is 1280×720 pixels and 1080p is 1920×1080 pixels. YouTube Help explains that “The YouTube video player automatically adapts itself to the size of each individual video.” In practice, each item in the playlist is played according to that video’s own dimensions and available renditions.
Do I need to convert the files to one resolution first?
No—not to create the playlist or play its videos in sequence. Keeping the original files avoids an unnecessary conversion. Resolution is only one part of playback quality: the source upload, connection speed, player or screen size, browser, and device can all affect the quality a viewer receives. YouTube’s automatic quality selection can adjust to viewing conditions; when available, a viewer can choose Settings → Quality to select a quality manually.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is no documented playlist setting here that forces every item to play at one fixed quality. A viewer may need to adjust quality for an individual video, and some formats may not be available on every device or browser.
Why does a video look lower-resolution after upload?
YouTube processes new uploads in low quality first. Higher-quality options, including 1080p, can take several hours to appear; allow processing to finish, then check the player’s Settings → Quality menu again. A playlist can contain a video while its higher-resolution versions are still processing.

Should I change the bitrate before uploading?
Not for playlist compatibility. Bitrate recommendations concern upload encoding quality; they are not a requirement for mixing resolutions in a playlist. YouTube Help’s current upload recommendations for SDR video at standard frame rates (24, 25, or 30 fps) are 5 Mbps for 720p and 8 Mbps for 1080p. These are recommendations for those specified conditions, not universal requirements; YouTube lists different recommendations for high-frame-rate footage and advises preserving the frame rate at which the content was recorded.

Making a playlist in YouTube does not turn local files into a live broadcast. A live broadcast built from pre-recorded videos is a separate workflow involving a live encoder or a service that sends the video to YouTube using your stream key. The native playlist steps above are for sequential playback of YouTube videos, not for creating a live event.
