Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo loop a video in OBS at 4K and 60 fps, add it as a Media Source, enable Loop, and set OBS’s video output to 3840×2160 at 60 fps. Then choose an encoder and bitrate suited to YouTube’s live-ingest guidance: at 4K/60, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264. The result still depends on the source file, encoding capacity, and a stable upload connection; OBS cannot restore detail or frames the video never had.
What you need for a genuine 4K/60 stream
Four parts of the pipeline must work together: a 4K/60 source file, OBS output configured for 3840×2160 at 60 fps, an encoder that can sustain the selected codec and bitrate, and enough stable upload capacity. A 4K file alone does not ensure a 4K stream, and selecting 60 fps does not create genuine frames if they are absent from the source.
- Source: Check the file’s actual resolution and frame rate. Match OBS output to the intended stream format where practical.
- OBS output: The output resolution and FPS determine what OBS emits; the canvas is a separate workspace for arranging sources.
- Encoding and upload: The encoder must keep up, and the connection must reliably carry the chosen bitrate.
- YouTube delivery: YouTube transcodes live input into multiple viewer formats. A 4K/60 ingest therefore does not guarantee every viewer receives 4K/60.
Set up and loop a local video in OBS
- Add the file: In your OBS scene, use the Sources list to add Media Source. Select Local File, choose the video, and enable Loop. OBS’s Media Sources guide describes Loop as replaying the file after playback completes.
- Configure the output: Open Settings → Video. Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to 3840×2160 and Output (Scaled) Resolution to 3840×2160. Under Common FPS Values, choose 60. The canvas is the space used to position and compose sources; the scaled output is the resolution OBS sends to the stream. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
- Select an encoder and stream protocol: YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1. YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Choose an encoder available in your OBS setup that your system can sustain. YouTube’s current live encoder settings list supported codecs and parameters.
- Set the bitrate for the selected codec: In OBS’s output settings, use the value for 2160p at 60 fps in the table below as YouTube’s recommendation, not as a guarantee of playback quality. Confirm your encoder is set to CBR and the keyframe interval to two seconds.
- Connect the YouTube stream: Use YouTube’s live setup to obtain the stream key, then enter it in OBS’s stream configuration. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it. Verify the stream in YouTube Live Control Room before making it public.
- Test the complete setup: Run a test with motion and audio similar to the intended stream. Check upload capacity, preview the stream in Live Control Room, and monitor stream health and audio/video quality. YouTube recommends pre-event testing and ongoing monitoring in its live streaming tips.
YouTube’s 4K/60 bitrate guidance by codec
YouTube’s live encoder settings page, accessed in 2026, gives these figures for 4K/2160p at 60 fps:
| Codec | Recommended bitrate | Minimum listed bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingestion settings, not promises about each viewer’s rendition. Choose based on the codec your encoder supports, its ability to encode the video smoothly, and whether your upload can sustain the bitrate. Do not assume that the minimum listed bitrate will preserve the same quality as the recommended setting.

Use a VLC playlist if you need several files
For a playlist rather than one repeating clip, OBS can use a VLC Video source; enable its Loop Playlist property to repeat the playlist. This source requires VLC installed, and the OBS and VLC architectures should match—for example, 64-bit OBS with 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
What 4K/60 does—and does not—mean to viewers
Sending 3840×2160 at 60 fps to YouTube is an ingest format, not control over every viewer’s playback. YouTube transcodes live input into multiple output formats, and a viewer’s available rendition can differ. Also, an OBS output set to 4K/60 cannot add source detail or authentic motion frames through upscaling or frame-rate selection. At 2160p, YouTube’s encoder settings state that low latency is unavailable and the stream is set to normal latency.

Troubleshoot softness, dropped frames, or stutter
- The stream is not actually 4K: Check both OBS output dimensions in Settings → Video. A 4K source will be sent at a lower resolution if Output (Scaled) Resolution is lower.
- Motion looks less smooth than expected: Check the source file’s frame rate as well as OBS’s 60 fps setting. OBS can output at 60 fps, but cannot restore genuine frames that the source lacks.
- Image quality is poor or inconsistent: Confirm the selected codec’s bitrate against YouTube’s 4K/60 guidance. Check whether the upload connection can sustain that bitrate reliably; YouTube advises testing upload capacity before going live.
- Encoding or rendering strain appears, or output stutters: The system may not be keeping up with the workload. OBS recommends testing capacity in advance; if necessary, reduce output resolution or frame rate. Its encoding performance troubleshooting guide covers performance problems, and its overview guide notes that 60-fps streaming can be taxing.
- The preview or audio/video quality is wrong: Confirm the selected scene and source, then test the full stream path in Live Control Room and monitor stream health before relying on a long broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. There is no home computer or connection that has to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers. The first day is free with no card.
A slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. Plans differ by duration; the same product is included on every plan. StreamNeo offers day, week, month, six-month, and yearly billing, with cancellation any time. A video that can be looped technically is not automatically cleared to stream. Use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, including music and other material embedded in the recording. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules before broadcasting; looping does not remove rights obligations. Repeated playback also does not itself establish eligibility for monetization or satisfy YouTube’s channel policies.
