Test a prerecorded kirtan stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before releasing it to the public: keep the rehearsal Private or Unlisted, start the encoder, inspect the preview, and check the actual watch-page playback and audio. A successful test confirms the setup worked at that moment; it does not clear music rights or guarantee that YouTube will not interrupt a later stream.
Choose the right visibility for your test
| Setting | Who can watch | Best use | Sharing risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private | The owner and people specifically selected to view it. | A rehearsal for yourself or a small group of named reviewers. | Lower: viewers are selected, but YouTube may still review private content under its copyright and abuse-prevention systems. |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link. | Reviewers who need straightforward access without being selected individually. | Higher: a recipient can reshare the link, and the stream is not normally surfaced in search or the channel’s Videos tab. |
| Public | Anyone who can find the event. | The release, not a private rehearsal. | The event is publicly accessible. Verify its visibility in Studio immediately before the event. |
Do not treat an unlisted link as a password. YouTube’s privacy settings can be changed in Studio, and the exact default for a scheduled event can vary by account circumstances, so check the setting rather than relying on a default. See YouTube’s privacy-setting guidance.
Prepare the channel, event, and recording
- Confirm livestream access. YouTube lists channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 among the requirements to enable livestreaming. Check the channel’s eligibility before planning the rehearsal. YouTube’s getting-started page describes the requirements.
- Schedule or select the correct event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and confirm the intended event and its privacy setting. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event; these are planning recommendations, not guaranteed processing or readiness times. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Check the stream key and encoder source. Make sure the encoder is sending the intended prerecorded file to the correct event. A stream key is a credential that tells the encoder where to send its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Keep it private: do not include it in screenshots, shared notes, or a publicly accessible setup guide. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Check your local file. Confirm the recording opens and plays, and, if you are recording an archive locally during the test, verify that the file exists and is growing. Keep a local archive backup: YouTube recommends one, and it says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Run the rehearsal and check the real playback
- Start the encoder, but do not release the event publicly. YouTube’s encoder workflow is to start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in the Live Control Room. Keep the event private or unlisted for the rehearsal; do not click Go live until you are ready to expose it according to the selected visibility setting. YouTube’s instructions say to check the preview before starting the stream. See the encoder workflow and the live streaming tips.
- Verify the picture. Confirm that the correct kirtan recording has started at the intended point. Check framing, image orientation, overlays, titles, and whether any unwanted desktop, encoder, or placeholder content is visible.
- Listen to the outgoing audio. Monitor the stream itself, not only the source file. Listen for silence, clipping, distortion, the wrong audio source, and abrupt starts or endings. Headphones you already own can help you check the mix; YouTube does not require a particular model.
- Open the watch page and check another device. Verify that the event is accessible to the intended reviewers from its watch page or channel page, then test playback on a phone or tablet. If the stream is unlisted, share the link only with people who should be able to watch and understand it may be reshared.
- Keep monitoring while it runs. YouTube advises creators to monitor audio and video quality continuously. Do not assume that a good first preview means the full recording will play cleanly.
- End the rehearsal and review its archive. Inspect the local recording and, if YouTube creates an archive, check it and look in Studio for restrictions or claims before the public event.
A technical test is not music-rights clearance
Kirtan may combine a traditional composition with a modern arrangement, a particular sound recording, live performances, accompaniment, or backing tracks. Rights in those elements can differ. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers represent and warrant that they have the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Confirm that your permissions cover the recording and the planned use, territories, and livestream—not just the underlying composition. See YouTube’s livestream terms.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party-content matches. It may warn you or replace the stream with a placeholder; continued third-party content can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even if you have a license, a stream may be interrupted unless the content owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the relevant rights holder about allowlisting in advance if your license requires it. A clean preview or successful private rehearsal is not proof that a public stream will run uninterrupted. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Claims on an archived live stream may be made after the stream ends, if you archive it. After both the rehearsal and public stream, check Content in YouTube Studio for restrictions and claims. Depending on the rights owner’s policy, a claim can block a video, monetize it, or track its viewership, and the effect may differ by geography. A Content ID claim is distinct from a copyright takedown or strike. Review the claim details and dispute only if you have a sound basis and the necessary rights. See YouTube’s explanation of copyright claims.
Before changing the rehearsal to public
- Confirm the correct scheduled event and stream key are selected.
- Watch the preview and verify the right recording, picture, and audio.
- Check the watch page and mobile playback.
- Verify the event’s visibility in Studio immediately before the scheduled event; do not assume the default is right.
- Review permissions for the composition, arrangement, recording, performers, and backing tracks, and arrange any required Content ID allowlisting.
- After the stream ends, inspect the archive and Studio’s Content area for claims or restrictions.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving an encoder computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
