To loop a prerecorded bhajan on YouTube Live, add its video file to OBS as a Media Source, enable the source’s loop option, configure OBS for 3840×2160 at 60 fps, and send the encoder feed to a YouTube Live stream. For 4K/60, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 50 Mbps with H.264. The right choice depends on your encoder and whether your upload connection can sustain the bitrate reliably.
What you need before you start
- A bhajan video file stored on the computer running OBS. The file should already be 4K/60 if you expect a 4K/60 broadcast; choosing those output settings cannot add detail or frame rate absent from the source.
- A current OBS installation and an encoder capable of the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect an encoder.
- An upload connection that can sustain the chosen video bitrate, plus room for audio and normal network variation. Test the connection and choose a setting that remains reliable rather than targeting a speed-test peak.
- Permission for the bhajan recording, composition, lyrics or translation, and video elements you plan to broadcast and, if applicable, archive. A devotional or traditional subject is not automatically free to use.
Choose 4K/60 encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, gives codec-specific ingest recommendations. These are upload bitrates to YouTube, not guarantees of viewer playback quality: YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for devices and network conditions.
| Ingest codec | 4K/2160p at 60 fps minimum | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
Use the bitrate for the codec your OBS encoder actually sends. The lower minimum is not the recommended target; operating close to it leaves less margin for motion and connection variation. YouTube does not identify one codec as universally best for every computer or connection, so choose one supported by your encoder and test it on the connection you will use.
Settings to apply in OBS
- Video: Set the output resolution to 3840×2160 and the frame rate to 60 fps only if the source, encoder hardware, and network can sustain them. Match the OBS canvas to the source when practical to avoid unnecessary scaling.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends for live ingest.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Color for SDR: Rec. 709, 8-bit, per YouTube’s advanced encoder settings.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for stereo and recommends 128 Kbps; its listed stereo sample rate is 44.1 kHz. Check the file and OBS audio meters so the music is neither silent nor clipping.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS. OBS’s YouTube service configuration ordinarily uses the stream details supplied in YouTube Studio; if entering a server manually, use the URL YouTube provides rather than guessing one.
YouTube’s encoder settings page is the reference for these technical values and notes that 4K/2160 live streams use normal latency: the improve-for-low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution.

Set up the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
- Enable live streaming early. If this is the channel’s first encoder-based live broadcast, complete YouTube’s activation process in advance; the first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the event. Review its privacy setting—public, unlisted, or private—and archive choices before going live. YouTube says stream settings can be reused.
- Get the stream URL and key. In the stream’s settings in Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube if available, and enter or connect the credentials as prompted by your installed OBS version. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets the encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept; treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Add the bhajan video in OBS. In the scene you will broadcast, add a Media Source, select the local file, and enable the source’s loop behavior in its properties. OBS labels can vary by version; confirm the loop control in the Media Source properties rather than assuming a specific menu label. Preview the source and listen through a full pass, including the transition from the file’s end back to its start.
- Set output and encoding. Configure 3840×2160 at 60 fps and the codec-specific bitrate, CBR, and 2-second keyframes described above. YouTube automatically detects encoder settings by default; if you need to set resolution manually, YouTube’s guidance says to use a custom stream key with manual settings enabled.
- Start a private or unlisted test. Start streaming in OBS and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Verify picture, audio, motion, resolution, and the loop point before making the event public. YouTube explicitly advises creators: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Go public and monitor. Once the test is satisfactory and rights are in order, use the event’s privacy controls as intended. Keep an eye on OBS and YouTube stream health while live; a stable-looking preview at the beginning does not prove the connection will remain stable indefinitely.
Check copyright and live-stream interruptions
Do not assume a bhajan can be rebroadcast merely because it is devotional, traditional, available online, or permitted for in-person worship. Rights may apply to the composition, lyrics or translation, arrangement, and specific sound recording or video; which rights apply depends on the material and jurisdiction. Obtain permission covering livestreaming, the intended territories, platform use, and any archive from the relevant rights holders.
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects such content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop; leaving the material in place can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. YouTube also says that even licensed third-party material can be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the content owner’s allowlist. Ask the rights holder about allowlisting before relying on a license. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The video stops at the end instead of repeating. | The Media Source is not set to loop, or a different source is being broadcast. | Open the active source’s properties, enable its loop behavior, and confirm the same source is visible in the scene sent to YouTube. |
| YouTube shows no preview or the stream does not connect. | Incorrect server URL or stream key, live access not yet active, or encoder not started. | Compare OBS’s stream details with the current event in Live Control Room, confirm live activation, and restart the encoder after correcting credentials. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| Stream health warns of instability or dropped frames. | The upload connection cannot reliably sustain the selected bitrate, or the computer is struggling to encode. | Check YouTube and OBS health indicators. Retest upload capacity, reduce output demands or select a lower-resolution/codec-and-bitrate combination the setup can sustain, then test again. A peak speed result alone does not establish stable capacity. |
| The stream is not actually 4K/60. | The source, OBS output, encoder, or YouTube ingest may be set below the intended format. | Check source properties and OBS video/output settings, then confirm the selected stream key’s resolution behavior and the Live Control Room status. Do not upscale a lower-quality source expecting new detail. |
| Audio is silent, clipped, or clicks at the loop point. | Wrong audio source or levels, an abrupt file edit, or a discontinuity between the file’s end and beginning. | Check OBS meters and monitoring, listen to the complete file transition before broadcasting, and repair the source edit or levels before restarting. |
| A placeholder appears or YouTube interrupts the stream. | Third-party content detection, including a rights issue or missing owner allowlisting. | Review the Live Control Room notice, stop or replace disputed material, and resolve permissions and any allowlist requirement with the rights holder before resuming. |
