The overlay reads track information from the music player or an updated text file; YouTube’s event title and description are separate, persistent details and do not serve as a synchronized per-song label.
Choose an overlay that can read your playback source
The key requirement is a reliable path from the player’s current track metadata to a visible text element in your stream. “Title — Artist” is a useful format, provided the music files or service actually supply those fields.
OBS with a source-aware plugin
The Tuna OBS resource describes displaying information from supported music sources, including VLC, MPD, and Spotify. Check its current compatibility with your OBS version, operating system, and specific playback setup before relying on it. A metadata overlay cannot supply accurate titles if the source does not expose them.
VLC metadata exported to a text file
An OBS community resource describes a monitor that reads ID3 metadata from an OBS VLC video source and can write current song information to a text file. In OBS, a text source can display that file. Confirm the monitor works with your VLC/OBS arrangement, the file tags are correct, and the text updates when a track changes.

Browser or other player integration
If the music comes from a browser or dedicated player, select an overlay that explicitly supports that source and reads its current track data. Do not assume a web player makes its title and artist available to other applications.
Hosted playout
A hosted playout provider documents a now-playing element that updates with its playlist using file metadata. This is an alternative for operators who do not want to build the composition around a local player, but capabilities, pricing, reliability, and partner terms vary and should be checked with the provider. Set up and validate the visible label
- Prepare the metadata. Check representative files for correct title and artist tags. Decide what to show when one field is missing—for example, show the title alone rather than leaving a broken separator.
- Connect the metadata to OBS. Configure the supported plugin or metadata monitor for the actual player. If using a text-file workflow, point an OBS text source at the file the monitor updates.
- Design for Hindi text. Use a font that includes the Devanagari glyphs needed by your track names. Preview long titles at the stream’s output resolution and make sure the text remains legible rather than clipping; adjust its size, position, or scrolling treatment as needed.
- Test transitions and failures. Run a representative audio-and-video test. Verify that the label changes at song boundaries, missing fields use your chosen fallback, and Hindi characters render correctly. Restart the player and encoder during a controlled test to see whether the metadata connection resumes.
- Check the actual watch page. Inspect the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and the public or unlisted watch page, including on a phone. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance recommends testing and monitoring stream quality, and checking accessibility through watch pages and mobile devices.
For an unattended stream, the overlay is only one link in the chain: playlist, metadata reader, OBS scene, encoder, network, and YouTube playback. Testing the label does not by itself establish that the whole stream will run continuously.
Keep event details separate from the changing song label
Use the YouTube Live event title and description for information that applies to the stream as a whole. The changing per-track label belongs in the encoder’s video composition. YouTube explains how to edit stream metadata in Studio and connect an encoder with a stream key in its stream setup help; that guidance does not establish that editing the event title creates a synchronized now-playing overlay.

Music rights still apply
A title card is not permission to broadcast a song. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for live content, including applicable music rights. Confirm rights for the intended use and territories.
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content and may replace a stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it if the content remains. Its copyright help also notes that even licensed third-party material may be interrupted unless the rights holder has added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Where required, arrange that allowlisting with the relevant rights holder.
