You can loop a playlist in an encoder such as OBS and send it to YouTube Live, but you must have the rights to stream every recording and composition first. A public YouTube playlist, a purchased track, or the ability to play a song in a consumer app does not grant broadcast permission. For a local setup, prepare authorized media files, connect OBS to a YouTube stream key, enable playlist looping, and keep the computer and network running.
Before you set up the stream: confirm the rights
Do not start by copying songs from a public playlist. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have all necessary rights to exploit the live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Depending on the material and intended use, permissions may include public-performance rights. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance, and get permission covering the recordings, compositions, territories and continuous livestream use you intend.
There is no single Ilaiyaraaja-specific clearance route established here, nor a track-by-track list of rights holders. A recording can involve rights in both the sound recording and the underlying composition. Ask the relevant rights holders or their authorized representatives what permissions apply. If a rights owner licenses your use, ask whether they must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist: YouTube says that even licensed material may be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Detection can lead to interruption or termination, so technical access to a song is not proof that it is safe to broadcast. OBS’s media tools enable playback and looping; they do not grant music rights.

What you need for a local OBS setup
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has not had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of your planned start.
- Local audio or video files you are authorized to livestream. Check the current OBS guide for supported formats rather than assuming every file will play.
- OBS and VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate plus headroom for other network activity.
- A computer that can stay on, connected and running OBS for the intended broadcast period.
Set up the YouTube stream and OBS playlist
1. Enable live streaming and prepare your media
- In YouTube Studio, complete channel verification and enable live streaming. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Gather only the media files for which you have the necessary streaming permissions. Keep a record of the permissions and any conditions, including territories, duration, attribution or Content ID allowlisting.
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, then open OBS. OBS documents the VLC Video source and its playlist behavior in its media sources guide.
2. Add and loop the playlist in OBS
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you intend to stream.
- Open the source properties and add the authorized media files to its playlist.
- Make sure Loop Playlist is enabled. OBS documents its default as On; the control restarts the source after it reaches the end of the media list.
- Check playback in the OBS preview, including picture, audio level and transitions between files. Confirm the playlist reaches its end and restarts as expected before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Looping controls what the encoder plays; it does not turn YouTube videos into authorized source files or confer permission to rebroadcast them. Use media files you are permitted to stream.
3. Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the YouTube server URL and key. The key is a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel; keep it private.
- Return to the Live Control Room and check the incoming preview before going live. Confirm that the correct scene and playlist are arriving, with audible sound and visible movement.
- Start the stream from OBS and use YouTube’s live controls to begin the broadcast. Continue monitoring stream health and audio/video quality.
4. Set and test the encoder connection
Use YouTube’s current live encoder settings for your selected resolution, frame rate, codec and protocol; avoid relying on an old preset. Test with audio and movement similar to what the channel will broadcast, and leave bandwidth headroom beyond the encoder bitrate. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend a reliable connection and sufficient upload capacity.

There is no universal computer specification or guaranteed 24/7 uptime for a local OBS setup. With this approach, your computer, OBS process and network must remain available for the stream to continue. You are responsible for checking the actual capacity and stability of your setup.
Keep the stream running and plan for the replay
For continuous operation, monitor the YouTube preview and stream-health indicators, OBS playback and the network connection. A local encoder cannot keep sending video if the computer shuts down, OBS stops or the connection fails. Have a plan to restore the feed if something goes wrong, and check that your media playlist resumes as intended.

Do not count on YouTube keeping a 24-hour broadcast as a replay. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or more. If a replay matters, make a separate recording and confirm current platform behavior before depending on an archive.

The playlist stops at the last item
Open the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is on. Test the transition at the end of the list in the preview before going live.
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel, the stream URL and key were copied correctly, and OBS is sending to the intended stream. A first-time channel activation may take up to 24 hours. Keep the stream key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
The stream is interrupted or terminated
YouTube may interrupt or terminate live content when its systems identify third-party material. Check the rights for every track and ask a licensing rights holder whether your channel needs Content ID allowlisting. A public playlist, purchase or successful playback does not establish livestream permission.
The preview is unstable or the stream loses quality
Check YouTube’s stream-health information, the OBS output and the connection. Ensure upload capacity exceeds the chosen bitrate with room for other network use, use a reliable connection, and follow the current YouTube encoder settings for your resolution and protocol.
Estimate preparation time and protect your channel
Long playlists mean large uploads if you are moving local files to a cloud service or other storage. Use StreamNeo’s upload-time calculator to estimate transfer time.
