4K at 60 fps does not, by itself, explain why the opening seconds disappear: YouTube’s published guidance supports that format but does not say it trims the start. First identify where the gap occurs—inside an OBS Media Source playlist, in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview, or in the public stream—then check start timing and stream health before changing settings.
First identify which playback path skips the opening
“Playlist” can mean an OBS Media Source playlist, or it can describe a YouTube live broadcast assembled from video. Those are different paths, and the title alone does not establish which one is involved.
- OBS Media Source playlist: The missing seconds occur while OBS plays the source. The YouTube live encoder recommendations do not establish how that particular source is configured or why it starts late.
- Live Control Room preview: Compare the preview with the source and note whether the gap appears before you make the broadcast public.
- Public live stream or replay: Check whether the source was already playing before the public go-live moment, then inspect OBS and YouTube stream-health indicators.
Note the exact point where the video begins, how many seconds are missing, and whether audio is affected too. Without the OBS version, source setup, encoder, protocol, log, and stream-health messages, there is no reliable way to assign one cause.
Check the start sequence before changing encoder settings
For a live broadcast, make sure the intended video is already playing before the public go-live point. A general workflow described in an older OBS guide is to start the encoder, check the Live Control Room preview, and then press Go Live; interface details can change, so use the current controls shown in your account. - Start the source and confirm it is playing from the intended beginning in OBS.
- Start the stream and check the Live Control Room preview before making it public.
- Compare the preview with the source timing. If the opening is already absent in OBS, investigate the source or playlist; if it is present in OBS but absent in the public broadcast, continue with stream health and start timing.
- For an event, run a private or otherwise non-public test using the same video and settings, where available, before the actual broadcast.
Verify 4K/60 fps settings, but do not assume they caused the gap
YouTube supports live ingestion up to 60 fps and publishes a 4K/2160p 60 fps profile. Its current encoder settings guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. It lists these bitrate recommendations for 4K/2160p at 60 fps:

These are configuration recommendations, not evidence that an incorrect bitrate or keyframe interval caused a start trim. Check your actual output settings and stream health rather than treating a change as a guaranteed fix.

YouTube also says the low-latency improvement option is unavailable for 4K/2160: 4K streams are optimized for quality and set to normal latency. This affects delivery delay, but the guidance does not say it removes the opening. Do not try to select a low-latency option for a 4K stream as a fix for skipped seconds.
Check OBS and YouTube for performance problems
Look at OBS’s dropped-frame and encoding indicators while running a representative test, and check stream health in the Live Control Room. YouTube transcodes live streams, including the source feed; OBS notes that consistent keyframe intervals help with quality-selection transitions. Neither fact alone diagnoses an opening gap. - If OBS reports encoding or rendering overload, follow OBS’s advice to reduce output resolution or frame rate and compare a test broadcast.
- If dropped frames or YouTube stream-health warnings appear, record them and retest after addressing the indicated issue.
- If the indicators and stream health are stable, avoid assuming a performance setting is responsible; return to the source-versus-preview-versus-public-stream comparison.
A test at lower resolution or frame rate can help isolate a workload problem. It is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed repair for a missing opening.
Do not confuse HLS segment guidance with proof of the cause
HLS is a specific YouTube ingest workflow, not something established by the phrase “YouTube Live playlist.” Google’s HLS ingestion guide recommends media segments of one to four seconds and defines playlist sequence behavior. That guidance does not show that HLS is in use in this case or that its segment rules cause the reported skipped seconds.
