If YouTube Live buffers on ACT Fibernet, compare the same stream across devices, connections, Wi-Fi locations, and Ethernet before changing router settings or blaming an ACT route. These checks can narrow down whether the issue follows a device, Wi-Fi, or the connection, but they do not prove a routing fault.
Start by isolating where the buffering happens
Change one variable at a time and note the result. Use the same live stream and, where possible, keep the device, playback quality, and test duration consistent. YouTube recommends trying another internet connection and another supported device; those comparisons help narrow the possibilities but do not identify a root cause on their own. - Another device on ACT: If the stream works on another device on your home network, the first device or its app may be involved.
- Another connection: If possible, test the affected device on mobile data or another internet connection. Watch data charges. A difference narrows the investigation but does not establish why ACT playback buffers.
- Another service or stream: Note whether other video services and other YouTube streams play normally. This is useful information to include if you contact ACT, but it is not a formal route test.
Check YouTube quality and the affected device
Temporarily select a lower playback quality in YouTube. If buffering eases, record that result; it does not by itself show whether the limitation is the device, Wi-Fi, congestion, or another network condition. YouTube notes that congestion and other factors can disrupt live programming and delay the stream.
- Close and reopen the YouTube app or browser, then retry the same live stream.
- Restart the device and check for available app or system updates.
- On a TV, test playback near the set and manually adjust quality, as YouTube recommends.
- Clear the app cache only if your device provides that option, following the device maker’s instructions.
YouTube Help gives 7 Mbps as the minimum recommended connection speed for HD streaming on TV. This is not a guarantee for every live broadcast, device, or network condition, and a speed result cannot identify the cause of buffering. YouTube Help.

Check whether Wi-Fi is the weak link
A fast broadband plan does not ensure a strong wireless connection at the viewing device. ACT identifies router distance and placement, obstructions, connected-device demand, and simultaneous high-bandwidth activity as factors that can affect Wi-Fi. ACT Fibernet’s buffering guidance and Wi-Fi stability guidance discuss these considerations.
- Try the same stream near the router, then at the usual viewing location. Keep the device and quality the same.
- Reduce obstructions between router and device where practical, and note whether the closer test behaves differently.
- Pause large downloads and other heavy household internet use during a test. Temporarily reduce connected-device demand, then compare with normal household use.
If playback is better near the router or when competing traffic is paused, that points toward the wireless segment or household demand as a contributor; it does not establish an ACT route problem.

Compare Wi-Fi with a wired Ethernet connection
If the affected device has an Ethernet port, connect it directly to the router with a suitable cable you already have. ACT identifies Cat 5e or Cat 6 as wired options and notes that wired performance is consistent. Compare the same stream on the same device at the same quality and time window, first over Wi-Fi and then over Ethernet. ACT Fibernet: Wi-Fi stability guidance.
- Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi buffers: The wireless segment is a likely contributor to investigate.
- Both connections buffer: The comparison has not isolated the cause. It does not prove that ACT’s route to YouTube is faulty.
- No suitable cable on hand: A Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable is an optional diagnostic purchase only if your device supports Ethernet. Buying one is not required, and a cable cannot by itself repair an ISP route.
Review router settings without making risky changes
Before changing any setting, record its current value so you can restore it. Check for router firmware updates using the router manufacturer’s instructions. ACT lists firmware and DNS among possible troubleshooting areas, but the available guidance does not establish that changing DNS fixes this specific YouTube Live symptom.

Do not treat disabling IPv6, changing DNS, replacing the router, or buying a Wi-Fi extender as a confirmed ACT-specific fix. Anecdotal reports do not show that those steps are appropriate for your connection. Avoid changing multiple settings at once: it makes the result harder to interpret and the original configuration harder to restore.
When and how to contact ACT

Include observations rather than a conclusion that the route is at fault:
- Your city or locality, and the dates and times buffering occurred.
- The affected device, YouTube app or browser, and whether other devices or services were affected.
- Whether playback changed near the router, with fewer competing devices, or at a lower YouTube quality.
- Whether the same device and stream behaved differently on another connection or over Ethernet.
