To change the game category on a YouTube gaming VOD, open YouTube Studio, select the video under Content (or find an archived stream under the Live tab), change its category to Gaming, select the correct game if prompted, and save. For several VODs, use bulk editing in Content.
Change the category on one gaming VOD
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Content and select the VOD by its title or thumbnail. If it is an archived livestream, use the Live tab in Content to locate it.
- On the video’s details or settings page, find Category. Choose Gaming, then select the correct game if the game selector appears.
- Select Save.
YouTube’s standard video settings let you edit a video’s category after upload. Its gaming guidance specifically recommends choosing Gaming and the right game when a gaming video is associated with the wrong topic. Studio labels can change over time, so the precise location of a control may vary.
Change categories on multiple VODs
To apply one category to several videos:
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and check the videos you want to edit.
- Choose Edit, then Category.
- Set the category and select Update videos.
Bulk editing is useful when a group of replays needs the same category. If different videos feature different games, check each video’s selected game as well; the bulk category workflow may not be the right way to assign distinct games.
If the VOD or game is missing
The archived stream is not in Content
Look under Content’s Live tab. If the stream is absent, it may not have been archived: YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive-capture limitation, separate from editing a category.

The video is still associated with the wrong gaming topic
Review the video’s title, description, category, and selected game. YouTube describes game pages as automatically generated and gaming videos as gathered algorithmically; correct metadata is a best practice, not a guarantee of recommendations or placement on a particular game page.
The control is not where expected
Confirm that you opened the VOD’s details/settings page rather than only the playback view. For an archived stream, locate it through Content’s Live tab first. Studio’s exact labels and layout may shift.
