- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Set the stream’s title, visibility, and other details in YouTube Studio, then locate the stream URL and stream key in the live control room.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service or configure the server and stream key using YouTube’s encoder instructions. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel.

Check rights and monetization before rerunning gameplay
Streaming a recording you own does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast every element in it or that the stream will qualify for monetization. Check the publisher’s terms for the game and clear music and other third-party audio before going live.
- Game footage: YouTube says commercial use depends on the rights granted by the game publisher. Its guidance cautions that “Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.” Gameplay commentary tied to the action, or instructional or educational value, is described as a potentially monetizable case, not a guarantee. - Music and other rights: YouTube’s livestream terms require content providers to have the necessary rights for livestream content, including music licensing rights. Check the permissions for soundtrack music, overlays, and other included material. See YouTube livestream terms.
- Originality and reused content: YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to livestreams. It requires original, authentic content and says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Plan for the stream archive
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This guidance applies whether OBS or a hosted service supplies the live stream. Troubleshoot common rerun problems
- You cannot start the first live stream: First-time YouTube live enablement may take up to 24 hours. Enable it in advance and check the account’s live-stream status. YouTube encoder setup.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS signal: Recheck that OBS is using the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key, and confirm the local computer has internet access and OBS is still running.
- A scheduled playlist does not appear on the expected channel: Verify the selected YouTube destination, scheduled start time, and authorization or stream-key connection in the service, then check the live control room for incoming video.
- The YouTube archive is missing: If the broadcast exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured. Preserve your own copy for future use.
- A rerun is not monetized or receives a rights issue: Review game-publisher commercial-use terms and music licensing, then assess the channel against YouTube’s originality and reused-content rules. A hosted service cannot resolve rights or monetization eligibility.
