For a local OBS stream, build a small set of scenes for the music visual, a break or standby screen, and a return screen. Assign a hotkey to each scene for manual control; for timed, unattended scene rotation, OBS community guidance points to the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin rather than OBS’s built-in window-title switcher. Connect OBS to YouTube Live, test the full stream—including audio and at least one scene change—and only then consider leaving it unattended.
Plan scenes around what viewers see
An OBS scene is a visual and audio layout assembled from sources. For an Indian music channel, begin with only the distinct states the broadcast needs; more scenes are not automatically more useful.
- Main music visual: the image or other visual accompanying the music, with the intended audio source.
- Break or standby: a deliberate screen for planned pauses or temporary interruptions.
- Return or recovery: a known scene to restore after maintenance or an interruption.
In OBS, add the relevant image and audio sources to each scene, arrange their order, and check that each source is visible. The OBS Sources Guide explains how scenes and sources make up the output layout and describes image and audio source types.
Choose how scenes should switch
| Method | What triggers it | Best fit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scene hotkeys | An operator presses a configured shortcut. | A person is available to control changes. | OBS documents hotkeys for switching to a specific scene. |
| Built-in Automatic Scene Switcher | A matching active application window title. | Switching according to which desktop application is active. | OBS community guidance describes this as window-title matching, not a general repeating timer. |
| Advanced Scene Switcher plugin | A configured timer or sequence. | Repeated timed rotation without an operator. | Community guidance recommends it for timer-based automation; check current plugin instructions for your OBS version and test before going live. |
The distinction matters if you want a scene to change every three or five minutes. The built-in switcher’s name does not mean it provides that sort of timed sequence. The OBS community discussion of automatic scene switching points to the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin for repeating timer-based changes. Plugin interfaces and compatibility may change, so follow the current instructions for the installed version rather than relying on assumed menu names.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up manual scene hotkeys
- In OBS, open Settings → Hotkeys.
- Find each named scene’s Switch to action and assign a distinct shortcut.
- Apply the settings, then press each shortcut while watching the OBS preview. Confirm that it selects the intended scene and that its sources appear correctly.
OBS documents switching to a specific scene as a hotkey action in its OBS Studio Overview Guide. A programmable macro keypad may be configured to send the same shortcuts if that device supports it, but it is optional; OBS does not require a particular keypad.
Configure timed rotation only when you need it
If no operator will be present and scenes must change on a repeating schedule, consult the current Advanced Scene Switcher documentation for your OBS version. Configure the sequence there, then test it while not live: watch a complete cycle, check that the correct scene appears each time, and listen for any unexpected audio changes. Do not assume the built-in Automatic Scene Switcher is a timer; the available community guidance describes it as matching active application window titles.

Choose a transition and preview changes
OBS includes Fade and Cut transitions from first launch, according to the OBS Studio Overview Guide. Choose a transition and duration that suit the visual, then preview scene changes before broadcasting.
In Studio Mode, the left pane is the editable preview and the right pane is the live scene. Check the preview first, then use the transition control when you are ready to put that scene on air. This helps avoid exposing an unfinished edit to viewers.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or select a stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS’s stream settings, enter the YouTube destination details and confirm they match the intended stream before sending video.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not put it in a scene, show it on stream, or include it in a screenshot; it functions as a credential that directs the encoder feed.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream URL and key. For a channel’s first live broadcast, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility and enable it ahead of launch. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream settings, including the key and URL.
Test the full broadcast before leaving it unattended
- Use an unlisted test if that suits your setup.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the intended watch page is visible to viewers.
- Listen for the music and confirm the audio is present and appropriate.
- Observe the picture through at least one scene change, whether triggered by a hotkey or by your tested automation.
- Monitor the feed for audio or video problems before relying on the setup.
YouTube recommends testing, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video quality in its live streaming tips. OBS also documents automatic reconnect as an advanced setting, but reconnect is not a guarantee that every failure will recover or that a 24/7 broadcast will stay online.

OBS performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. The OBS system requirements page recommends using the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. Test on the computer and network you actually plan to use; a local OBS stream depends on both remaining capable and connected.

- A hotkey does nothing or selects the wrong scene: revisit Settings → Hotkeys, check the shortcut assigned to each scene’s Switch to action, and test again in the preview.
- A scene does not change on a timer: confirm you configured a timer or sequence in the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin. The built-in Automatic Scene Switcher is described in community guidance as a window-title matcher, not a general timer.
- The wrong desktop window triggers a scene: check the active-window title rule if using the built-in switcher. If the aim is a repeating schedule, use a timer-based plugin configuration instead.
- The preview looks right but the live scene does not: in Studio Mode, remember that preview and live are separate panes. Check the preview and explicitly transition it to live.
- YouTube receives no feed or the wrong stream: confirm the selected YouTube stream, stream URL, and key in OBS. Treat the key as private; if you suspect it has been exposed, manage the stream key in YouTube’s settings rather than continuing with a compromised credential.
- Video or audio degrades during the test: reduce workload or adjust output choices to what the computer can handle, then retest. OBS identifies encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity as factors in performance.
- The broadcast stops after a computer or network problem: OBS reconnect may help with some interruptions, but it does not assure recovery from every failure. A local setup requires the computer and network to remain available.
Keep music rights and YouTube eligibility in view
Scene setup does not grant permission to broadcast the music. Use tracks and visuals you have the rights to stream, and review YouTube’s applicable rules for your channel and content. The setup guidance here does not establish that any particular Indian music track is licensed or that a stream qualifies under YouTube’s policies.
