One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a remote panel, have each host join the same Zoom meeting, build the intended program in OBS, then start OBS Virtual Camera and select it as Zoom’s camera. Keep the meeting host—not a co-host—responsible for starting any Zoom livestream. These are separate jobs: OBS Virtual Camera sends an OBS scene into Zoom; Zoom’s livestream controls send a meeting out to a public platform.
Choose the signal path before you set up
“Stream with Zoom and OBS” can mean different things. Decide which output you need, because the steps and account requirements differ.
| Goal | What sends the video | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Put a composed camera feed into a Zoom call | OBS Virtual Camera → Zoom | You want Zoom participants to see an OBS-produced scene. |
| Send a Zoom meeting or webinar to a public destination | Zoom’s livestream controls | You want to broadcast the Zoom meeting itself, subject to account and destination eligibility. |
| Put an OBS production into a Zoom Events webinar | Incoming RTMP | You are using the specific Zoom Events workflow and have confirmed eligibility and configuration. |
For the ordinary interactive remote panel, use the first route. OBS’s Virtual Camera makes OBS output available to apps that accept a webcam feed, including Zoom. It does not, by itself, establish that Zoom makes every remote guest available in OBS as a separately selectable source. Choose and test a capture method for the composition you want.
Set up a remote panel with OBS Virtual Camera
1. Bring the hosts into Zoom
- Start a Zoom meeting and invite each remote host to join as a participant.
- If a host needs to help manage participants or recording, the meeting host can promote that participant to co-host during the meeting.
- Keep livestream start and stop with the meeting host: Zoom says a co-host cannot start the livestream.
Zoom’s co-host role information is at Zoom Support: Enabling and adding a co-host.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Build the OBS scene
- In OBS Studio, create a scene for the program you want Zoom to receive.
- Add and arrange the sources that make up that scene. The Virtual Camera guide explains how to share OBS output as a webcam, but it does not prescribe a particular method for capturing individual Zoom guests. Do not assume each participant automatically appears as a separate OBS source.
- If you use Studio Mode, choose the Virtual Camera output deliberately. OBS offers Program, Preview, Scene, and Source modes. Program is normally the finished output; Preview can reveal scene changes when Studio Mode is in use. Check the selected mode and what it displays before the event.
See the OBS Virtual Camera Guide for the output modes and setup.
3. Send OBS video into Zoom
- In OBS, start Virtual Camera.
- In Zoom’s camera settings, select OBS Virtual Camera.
- Check the Zoom preview, then ask another participant to confirm what they see. Verify framing and scene changes before the live session.
4. Route audio separately
Virtual Camera carries the OBS video output; audio needs its own deliberate routing. Decide which microphone Zoom should use and whether program audio should be heard by call participants. Avoid duplicate monitoring or routing the same audio back into the call, which can create echo. OBS’s video-call tutorial discusses routing audio between OBS and call software and keeping stream- or recording-only sound out of a call. Exact device and virtual-audio setup depends on your operating system and chosen devices, so there is no single routing recipe that applies to every computer. See OBS: Using the Virtual Camera in video calls.

5. Test with another participant
Before the event, check the picture, scene changes, microphone selection, program audio, and echo from a second account or participant. This catches mismatches between what OBS is producing and what Zoom attendees actually receive.
Broadcast the Zoom meeting to a public platform
If the public stream should show the Zoom meeting, configure Zoom’s livestream feature rather than treating OBS Virtual Camera as the destination. Check the host account’s enabled features, allowed destinations, and any administrator restrictions before the event. Zoom’s instructions for enabling livestreaming are at Zoom Support: Enabling meetings and webinars to be live streamed.

- Confirm the account is allowed to livestream and that the intended destination is available in its settings.
- For a custom streaming site, configure the stream URL and key as required by Zoom’s instructions: Streaming a meeting or webinar on a custom site.
- Have the meeting host start the stream from the meeting controls. A co-host can assist with meeting administration, but cannot start the livestream.
Do not assume every Zoom account, license, administrator configuration, or destination offers the same controls. Confirm the exact account and destination before relying on this route.
When a production studio is already in the signal path
If cameras or a switcher already produce a finished program, Zoom’s broadcast configuration describes a more involved setup using a production video and audio system. The guide names Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus for HDMI and Inogeni SDI2USB3 for SDI, along with a USB audio mixer. Those are examples for an existing HDMI/SDI production workflow, not required gear for a basic panel of remote Zoom guests. An Anker USB-C hub is also mentioned for Mac streaming-computer connectivity when the necessary ports are lacking.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Virtual Camera is missing in Zoom | The virtual camera may not be installed, approved, or available to the operating system. | Follow OBS’s operating-system-specific guidance: Windows installation, macOS extension approval, or Linux v4l2loopback considerations. Check current software versions. OBS Virtual Camera Troubleshooting. |
| Zoom shows the wrong scene or an unintended transition | OBS Virtual Camera may be outputting Preview, Scene, or Source rather than the intended Program output. | Review the Virtual Camera output mode in OBS, especially if Studio Mode is enabled, then check Zoom’s preview again. |
| Participants cannot hear the intended microphone or program audio | Video and call audio are separate signal paths, and the wrong device or route may be selected. | Check Zoom’s microphone selection and OBS/device routing. Monitor for duplicate audio and echo; use the OBS video-call audio guide for your device setup. |
| The meeting appears in Zoom but is not broadcasting publicly | The account may lack the enabled feature, the destination may not be configured, or an administrator may restrict streaming. | Confirm account settings and destination eligibility; verify the custom stream URL and key where applicable. The meeting host must start the stream. |
| You expected to select every Zoom guest separately in OBS | The basic Virtual Camera instructions describe sharing OBS output to Zoom, not a per-guest capture integration. | Choose an appropriate capture method for the production and test it in advance; do not assume individual participant feeds are automatically exposed as OBS sources. |
Plan the production around the actual need
- For an interactive panel where guests join remotely, begin with Zoom participants and an OBS scene sent through Virtual Camera.
- For a public broadcast of the meeting, check Zoom account and destination controls and leave stream-start responsibility with the host.
- For an existing HDMI/SDI studio, treat capture hardware and audio processing as part of that production system, not as a baseline requirement.
- For a Zoom Events RTMP workflow, verify the feature’s eligibility and app requirement before choosing it.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for a different job: keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube around the clock. It does not take a live camera feed or replace Zoom for interactive multi-host conversations. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo or start the free first day.
