YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for viewers; it does not turn that playback into a YouTube Live broadcast. To show a prerecorded rental walkthrough as a live stream, use an encoder or playback service that repeats the video and sends its feed to YouTube. YouTube provides the Live setup and encoder connection steps, but the repeat control depends on the encoder you choose.
Can you loop a video on YouTube Live?
Not with YouTube’s ordinary Loop control. That control repeats a video or playlist while someone watches it; Live is a separate workflow in which an encoder sends a video feed to YouTube. The repetition therefore has to be set up in the source or encoder before the feed reaches YouTube. YouTube’s general Live instructions do not specify a universal loop setting or procedure for a particular encoder. YouTube’s Live streaming instructions and viewer-looping instructions describe different functions.
Before you set up the broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states that users must be at least 16 to livestream. If Live is being enabled for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s current eligibility guidance.
- Choose a repeat-capable source. Use encoder software, hardware, or a cloud playback service that can repeat the recorded file or playlist. Confirm its repeat behavior in that product’s current documentation; YouTube does not provide a universal loop toggle for incoming encoder feeds.
- Clear the content and recording. Use footage and audio you have the necessary rights to stream. Consider privacy and permissions for occupants, guests, neighboring properties, and private areas under the laws and agreements that apply to the rental; YouTube’s general streaming pages do not establish those property-specific permissions.
- Plan for a continuous connection. The source needs a stable upload path to YouTube for the full broadcast. A software encoder can be used; YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.
How to loop a walkthrough as a YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new encoder-based stream or schedule one. If this is the channel’s first time streaming live, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Set the walkthrough to repeat in the source. In your selected encoder or playback software, choose the recorded walkthrough or playlist and enable repeat/loop according to that product’s instructions. Test that the file restarts as expected. The exact control varies by encoder; it is not a YouTube Studio setting.
- Copy the ingest details from YouTube. In the stream setup, copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream, so do not publish or share it.
- Choose compatible output settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion. H.264 is among its supported video codecs. Set a keyframe interval of 2 seconds and do not exceed 4 seconds. Select a resolution and bitrate your encoder supports and your connection can sustain; YouTube transcodes streams for playback on different devices. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Check the network budget. Measure upload speed and make sure the total stream bitrate fits the available upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom rather than using the full measured bandwidth. Test and monitor for interruptions. YouTube’s network tips cover testing and bandwidth.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check image, audio, the beginning and end of the loop, and playback on the public watch page or a mobile device. Fix any mismatch before promoting the broadcast.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start the encoder and use the Live Control Room’s go-live control if the selected workflow requires it. Keep an eye on stream health and playback while the walkthrough repeats.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the stream through the encoder and YouTube workflow. YouTube automatically archives live streams that run for under 12 hours; do not rely on that archive behavior as a substitute for ending a broadcast.
Choose a loop setup that fits your situation
Encoder software on a computer
Software is a practical route if you already have a suitable computer and can keep the encoder, source file, and internet connection running. The encoder must support repeating a file or playlist, and you should verify that it reconnects and resumes the source in the way you expect. YouTube lists encoder options but does not make the third-party products it lists, so check current product documentation rather than assuming every encoder has the same controls.
Standalone hardware encoder
A hardware encoder may suit a production that already uses dedicated encoding equipment. Confirm that the specific unit can play and repeat recorded media; an encoder that only accepts a camera or other live input may not loop a file on its own. YouTube does not require dedicated hardware for this prerecorded-video use case.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cloud playback
A cloud service can keep the source and stream running without leaving a home computer on. Verify that the service supports prerecorded uploads, repeat playback, YouTube ingest, and the output quality you need. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos and playlists; it keeps the stream running from the cloud, supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Details are at StreamNeo.
Copyright, music, and viewer privacy
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist for the stream to proceed. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to represent that they hold the necessary worldwide rights for the live content, including applicable music rights, and to follow relevant laws and Community Guidelines. For a rental walkthrough, check background music, television audio, artwork, and other material captured in the recording as well as the footage itself. Avoid showing personal information such as access codes, guest belongings, or security details.
Troubleshooting a looping Live walkthrough
- The broadcast is not live even though the video repeats locally: Repetition on a watch page or in a media player is not an encoder feed. Confirm that the encoder is sending to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio, then check the Live Control Room preview.
- The video plays once and stops: The repeat setting belongs to the source or encoder. Check that the selected file or playlist is configured to repeat in that product, and test the restart before beginning the public stream.
- The preview is missing or unstable: Confirm the stream key and URL, ingest protocol, encoder output, and upload bandwidth. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain it, while preserving the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom.
- The picture or audio is wrong: Inspect the encoder’s selected source, codec, resolution, bitrate, and audio input. Confirm in preview that the loop boundary does not create an unintended gap, abrupt cut, or silence.
- YouTube interrupts or blocks the feed: Review copyright notices and stream health. Remove uncleared third-party material or arrange the necessary rights and, where applicable, Content ID allowlisting.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key. Keep the new key private.
