You can keep No Man’s Sky gameplay live on YouTube around the clock, but don’t rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast to create a complete replay: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an archive viewers can revisit, run shorter sessions that end well before that threshold and record locally as a backup. Here’s how to prepare, configure, test, and operate that setup—and what to know about monetization.
Choose an archive-friendly broadcast plan

For an exploration archive, use the second approach. Schedule sessions to finish comfortably before 12 hours rather than aiming for the boundary. YouTube does not promise a single uninterrupted video covering a full day, and a handoff between sessions is not guaranteed to be seamless.
YouTube’s Live API can model recurring broadcasts that share stream settings and can also support a 24/7 feed configuration. The API distinguishes the incoming live stream from the broadcast video object; those capabilities do not override YouTube’s separate archive warning. If you automate the handoffs through the API, check the current broadcast and stream documentation and your account’s applicable limits.
Prepare your YouTube channel and encoder
For gameplay, YouTube identifies an encoder workflow as appropriate, including when you want overlays or to use hardware such as a preamp and microphone. Before setting up your scene, confirm the channel can go live: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and its current guidance sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Use an encoder and capture method suited to the platform running No Man’s Sky. YouTube’s encoder workflow does not require expensive dedicated streaming hardware: the necessary setup depends on your game platform and how you can get its video and audio into the encoder.
Set video quality and test the connection
Choose an H.264 bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder recommendations as a starting point, then test it against the actual upload connection and gameplay. Examples in YouTube’s table are:

These are recommendations for the listed resolution and frame rate, not universal upload-speed requirements. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings table for the current requirements and settings that apply to your output. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the contribution feed sent to its servers.
For No Man’s Sky, test representative movement, scene changes, and game audio—not just a static menu. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, inspect the preview and stream health, and check the resulting playback on another device. Confirm that audio is present and video remains legible during normal exploration.

Schedule sessions and protect the archive
- Plan session lengths. Divide the 24-hour schedule into separate broadcasts with enough margin to end comfortably before YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. Leave time for a deliberate handoff rather than assuming one stream can run indefinitely.
- Enable a local recording. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Select a recording destination with enough capacity for the quality and retention period you intend to use. An external SSD is one practical option, not a YouTube requirement.
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal. Use similar movement and audio to the planned broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then verify playback from another device.
- Watch the recording file. Confirm that its size continues to grow during the rehearsal and that the finished file plays. A live preview alone does not establish that your local recording is usable.
- Operate and hand off deliberately. Monitor stream and recording quality during each session. Start the next broadcast according to your schedule, and check that it is live before treating the handoff as complete. If you use a backup encoder, test failover beforehand.
Recording size depends on bitrate, recording quality, and how long you retain footage; calculate storage for your actual settings instead of assuming a universal drive capacity. The upload-time calculator is for estimating uploads, not local recording capacity.
Make the feed useful as an exploration archive
Hello Games describes No Man’s Sky as an exploration and survival game in a procedurally generated galaxy, with distinctive creatures, geological formations, plants, and spaceships. Use that variety to make each session understandable when watched later: label locations or discoveries, keep a readable route or session log, and keep gameplay visible rather than obscured by overlays.

The Hello Games End User Licence Agreement available at the official EULA page is dated 25 January 2019. Section 3.2 allows sharing non-commercial gameplay screenshots and videos on personal social media, while the agreement separately restricts commercial exploitation of the game. That text does not clearly settle whether a current monetized, continuous YouTube livestream is permitted. Do not treat monetization as authorized on the basis of that permission; seek current clarification from Hello Games before relying on ads, memberships, sponsorships, or another commercial use.

Also check how in-game music affects your planned broadcast. Hello Games’ press kit identifies a soundtrack that includes work by 65daysofstatic, but the available material does not establish a special livestream music licence. Rights uncertainty is separate from whether YouTube can technically carry or archive the stream.
