To keep a radio station logo visible throughout a 24/7 YouTube stream, add it as an image or graphic source in the encoder scene that creates the video sent to YouTube. Keep the source enabled in every scene or program state where it should appear, then verify it in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before leaving the stream unattended. YouTube supports encoder overlays and graphics; a channel video watermark is a separate feature and does not compose the logo into the broadcast picture in the same way.
Put the logo in the video composition
An encoder overlay is the reliable choice when the station wants its logo to appear as part of the actual video picture. The graphic is composed with the video before the encoder sends the feed to YouTube, so its visibility depends on the encoder continuing to send that composition.
- Prepare the image. Use a clean logo file. A transparent background usually works well because it lets the underlying video show through; this is a production recommendation, not a YouTube requirement.
- Add it to the encoder scene. In your encoder software, add the logo as an image or graphic source, then position and size it over the video canvas.
- Check every scene and program state. Keep the source enabled in each scene used during the broadcast. Test transitions and scheduled visual changes so the logo does not disappear when the station changes visuals.
- Connect to YouTube. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio to connect the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: it is a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed.
- Preview before going live. Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the logo appears in the outgoing picture before starting or relying on the stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance describes overlays and graphics as encoder capabilities. Its live-stream setup guidance also recommends previewing the feed and checking stream availability and video and audio quality before the broadcast.
Encoder overlay or YouTube video watermark?
These are different mechanisms. An encoder overlay is part of the composed video feed. YouTube’s video watermark is channel branding applied through YouTube, with display options for the end of the video, a custom start time, or the entire video. A watermark can supplement the station’s branding, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement for a logo baked into the stream picture.

YouTube documents display limitations for video watermarks: they are available in landscape view on computers and mobile devices, do not display on custom chromeless players or Adobe Flash, and are unavailable on videos set as made for kids. Check YouTube’s current video watermark requirements and behavior before relying on one.
Make the stream dependable when it runs continuously
Test the whole feed, not just the logo file
Before leaving a stream to run, watch the actual preview and, where practical, the public watch page. Check scene changes, scheduled visual changes, and whether the logo remains after restarting the encoder or changing the program. YouTube recommends setting up encoders ahead of an event, previewing output, confirming stream availability, and monitoring audio and video quality. See its live encoder setup guidance.

Allow upload bandwidth headroom
Your station’s upload connection must be able to carry the stream consistently. YouTube Help recommends leaving about 20% upload bandwidth beyond the stream bitrate. This is YouTube’s recommendation, not a measured requirement for every station. Its streaming tips also advise testing the setup and using reliable connectivity.
Choose software or hardware based on the operation
You do not need a standalone hardware encoder just to show a logo. YouTube supports software encoders as well as hardware encoders, and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Consider dedicated hardware only if its inputs, outputs, monitoring, restart recovery, or fit with the station’s existing equipment justify it. For any local setup running around the clock, include the computer or encoder, power, network, and source visibility in routine checks.

For a prerecorded visual loop, consider a cloud workflow
If the radio station is streaming prerecorded video rather than a live camera or other live production, a cloud service may avoid relying on a station computer to keep sending the loop. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. Confirm the service’s current capabilities and that the workflow fits the station’s audio and rights requirements.

Troubleshooting: why the logo disappears
- The logo is missing after a scene change: the image source may not be enabled in the new scene. Add or enable it in every scene and test the transition.
- The preview has no logo: check that the graphic source is visible, positioned within the video canvas, and included in the active encoder scene. Confirm in the Live Control Room preview rather than assuming a local preview matches the outgoing feed.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: check the station’s upload connection, encoder status, and power. Leave the upload headroom YouTube recommends and test the complete setup before unattended operation.
- The key no longer works or should not be trusted: verify the stream URL and key in YouTube Studio. Because the key grants an encoder access to send a feed, do not publish it; if it may have been exposed, replace or reset it using YouTube Studio’s available controls.
