Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Captions attached to an uploaded video do not necessarily appear when that video is played as part of a livestream. If they do not, send captions to YouTube as part of the live stream using an encoder that supports embedded captions or supported captioning software.
Choose where the captions need to appear
There are two separate workflows. Captions added to a story upload belong to that individual video. Captions for the outgoing livestream must be sent to YouTube as part of the live program. YouTube does not guarantee that an unspecified playout system or encoder will carry a source video’s selectable caption track through to the live output, so test your complete setup before relying on it.
| What you want viewers to see | Where to add captions | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Captions on each story’s YouTube upload | YouTube Studio, on each video | Review the captions and check they appear on the video’s watch page. |
| Captions during the 24/7 live program | Send a live caption feed to YouTube through embedded captions or supported captioning software | Confirm the playout and encoder deliver captions in sync through transitions and loop restarts. |
Add subtitles to each prerecorded story
- Prepare the captions. Use a transcript in the language spoken in the story. A timed caption file gives you control over when each line appears. If you use a transcript for auto-sync, it must match the spoken words and language.
- Open the story in YouTube Studio. Sign in, select Subtitles, and choose the video you want to caption.
- Add a language and subtitles. Choose Add language, then select Add under Subtitles. YouTube’s available methods include uploading a caption file with timing, entering a transcript and using auto-sync, or typing captions manually. Interface wording may change; follow the caption options shown for your video. YouTube Help: Add subtitles and captions.
- Review the result. Check synchronization, names, punctuation, speaker changes, and child-directed vocabulary. Include relevant sound cues such as “[applause]” or “[thunder]” when they help viewers understand what is happening. Machine-generated captions can misrepresent speech, so correct errors before relying on them.
- Repeat for each video and language. A caption track added to one story is not a channel-wide caption setting. Add and review the intended language tracks on each upload.
Get captions into the continuous live output
If the loop player takes each story’s video and sends it through an encoder, check whether that exact chain preserves the upload’s subtitle track. Do not assume it does. If the captions fail to reach YouTube, use a live-caption method supported by your event and encoder.
Option 1: Send embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 captions
- In the YouTube live stream setup, enable closed captions and select Embedded 608/708.
- Configure the encoder to send EIA 608 or CEA 708 captions in the stream.
- Test the result in the YouTube player and confirm captions stay synchronized as stories change.
YouTube says this embedded mode currently supports one caption track, even though the standard supports up to four language tracks. YouTube Help: Live caption requirements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Option 2: Send captions through supported software
- Enable closed captions for the live event and copy its signed Captions Ingestion URL.
- Provide that URL to a supported captioning software provider and configure the service to send captions for the event.
- Allow a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay for this workflow, as YouTube’s instructions specify. YouTube also says each stream entry point has one caption feed.
Check current software support and availability with the provider before building this into a 24/7 operation; YouTube’s documentation describes the workflow but does not establish compatibility with every playout setup.
Test timing, transitions, and loop restarts
Before relying on captions in a continuous stream, run a private or unlisted test with a short story that includes dialogue, music, pauses, and a speaker change. Check captions on the YouTube player and the devices your audience uses. Watch through a story transition and a loop restart to identify timing drift, missing captions, or captions that continue over the wrong scene. This is especially important if captions pass through both a playout system and an encoder.

Should you use YouTube automatic captions?
YouTube’s live automatic captions are a limited alternative, not a substitute for preparing accurate captions for prerecorded stories. The feature is documented as English-only, available only for normal-latency streams, enabled per stream rather than channel-wide, and subject to rollout. Live-generated captions do not remain on the video after the stream ends; YouTube generates new captions for the video-on-demand archive, and those may differ. YouTube Help: Use automatic captioning.
Automatic caption availability or accuracy can be affected by unsupported languages, poor sound, long duration, silence at the beginning, overlapping speakers, or multiple languages at once. Narration mixed with music and effects, or several character voices, can make review especially important. For prerecorded stories, captions you prepare and review on the upload give you more control than live speech recognition. Review machine-generated captions before publishing them.

Check the Made for Kids setting
Verify the audience setting for the channel or stream rather than assuming every children’s story is marked Made for Kids. YouTube lists restrictions for content set as Made for Kids, including disabled live chat and chat replay, Super Chat, comments on live archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications. Personalized ads are disabled on live streams and Premieres, though contextual ads may be shown. The cited restrictions do not say captions are disabled; check caption display on your actual player and devices. YouTube Help: Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
