To turn on ads for a monetized 24/7 YouTube livestream, open YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, open the stream’s Edit → Monetization settings, switch Monetization to On, then choose how mid-roll ads are handled. YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls, but ad slots do not guarantee that every viewer will see an ad.
Before you enable ads
Your channel must be monetized, and monetization must be enabled for the specific livestream before YouTube can trigger ads. To earn Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue on eligible streams watched on a YouTube Watch Page or embedded in the YouTube player, you must also accept YouTube’s Watch Page Monetization Module. Availability and Studio labels can vary or change; consult YouTube’s current live-stream monetization guidance if the controls differ.
Turn on monetization in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Start the stream from the Stream tab, or schedule it from Manage.
- At the top of the stream setup or control screen, select Edit → Monetization.
- Set Monetization to On.
- Choose a live mid-roll setting: Automatic, Scheduled, or Manual.
According to YouTube, turning monetization on also enables pre-roll and display ads. Mid-rolls are a separate choice within the stream’s monetization settings.
Choose how mid-roll ads are placed
| Setting | Who controls timing | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | YouTube selects breakpoints. | YouTube recommends this option. Choose low, medium, or high frequency. Viewers may see ads at different times. YouTube says its system can limit interruptions for channel members, temporarily pause mid-rolls for viewers sending gifts, Super Chats, or Stickers, and snooze mid-rolls for everyone during high-engagement moments. |
| Scheduled | You set a recurring interval. | Choose every 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. YouTube cautions that scheduled or manual choices may have lower earnings potential than automatic mid-rolls. |
| Manual | You insert each break while live. | Useful when you want to choose the moment, but a mid-roll will not run unless you insert a break. |
These options control opportunities for ads, not guaranteed ad delivery. YouTube decides whether a slot serves, and some viewers may continue watching without seeing an ad. YouTube reported that creators who had live automatic mid-rolls on saw an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not, across 207 countries in January 2024. That is YouTube’s historical comparison, not a forecast or promise for an individual channel.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Manage interruptions during important moments
In Live Control Room, the Delay ads control delays automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes and displays a five-second countdown before ads resume. Manually placed mid-rolls still display while this delay feature is on, so it does not suppress breaks you insert yourself.
Set defaults for future streams
Eligible monetized channels without rights management can set live-stream defaults in Live Control Room settings. YouTube says the defaults are monetization on and its recommended automatic medium mid-roll option. Channels with rights management currently do not have these channel-level settings.

Know when ads may not appear
- No monetization on the stream: YouTube cannot trigger ads for that stream until you enable monetization.
- Manual mode with no inserted break: No mid-roll will be served.
- An ad slot does not serve: A selected or available slot is not a guarantee that each viewer will receive an ad.
- Autoplay on an external-site embed: YouTube says ads are turned off for that livestream player context.
- Watch Page revenue module not accepted: Accept the Watch Page Monetization Module to earn eligible Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue.
You can optionally use an Elgato Stream Deck with YouTube’s plugin to insert ads in manual mode. It is a control-surface option, not a requirement for enabling monetization in Studio.
