Before uploading a batch for a YouTube live playlist, check that every file is present, plays from beginning to end, contains the expected video and audio streams, and matches the intended playlist entry. Then upload through YouTube Studio, review each video’s details and playlist assignment, and inspect YouTube’s Checks before publishing. A playlist of prerecorded videos is an upload workflow; it is not the same as sending a live encoder feed.
Preflight the batch before opening YouTube Studio
- Make an inventory. Write down the expected filenames and total count, then compare them with the files in your staging folder. Look for duplicate names, temporary exports, and files that are unexpectedly small or short. These are practical checks, not YouTube-published pass/fail thresholds.
- Open and play each file. Use a media player or media-information utility to verify it can be read. Play the opening, a point in the middle, and the end. A familiar extension or a file that opens successfully does not prove it decodes correctly throughout.
- Inspect the actual streams. Confirm each file’s container, video codec, audio codec, duration, dimensions, frame rate, and orientation. The extension alone does not tell you which codecs are inside the file.
- Check picture and sound. Confirm the expected duration and aspect ratio, and listen for missing, clipped, unintelligible, or out-of-sync audio. Compare the result with the original or your export plan; do not re-export solely to change a setting if that would unnecessarily degrade the source.
- Match files to playlist entries. Check that filenames and contents correspond to the titles and order you intend to use. This makes it easier to catch a wrong version or an omitted item before publication.
YouTube does not prescribe a checksum method or a batch-validation utility for uploads. If files were copied or staged, you can optionally compare checksums generated from a trusted source copy and the staged copy; a mismatch can reveal an unintended change during transfer. Treat this as a general file-integrity measure, not a YouTube requirement.
Which file formats does YouTube support?
YouTube lists formats including MOV, MPEG, MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, WebM, ProRes, DNxHR, CineForm, and HEVC. Audio-only files cannot be uploaded to create a video. The supported-format list is not the same as a recommendation to use every listed format; inspect the video and audio codecs inside each file. YouTube’s supported file formats
For a broadly compatible upload, YouTube’s guidance recommends MP4 with H.264 video and AAC-LC audio (or another audio choice listed in its guidance). For MP4, the recommended settings include Fast Start, which places the moov atom at the beginning of the file. YouTube also recommends preserving the source frame rate rather than resampling it just to match a different target. These are recommendations, not a claim that every other accepted format will fail. See YouTube’s video and audio formatting specifications and recommended upload encoding settings.

Upload the batch and assign the playlist carefully
- On a desktop browser, open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the files from your verified batch. YouTube’s desktop upload guidance says you can upload up to 15 videos at a time; this is the batch limit stated in its help instructions, not a guarantee that every upload will finish at once.
- For each video, review its title, description, visibility, audience and other details. Add it to the intended playlist using the video’s details flow; do not assume selecting multiple files also assigned every item to the right playlist.
- Review the Checks screen before publication. YouTube says Checks can identify copyright issues and, for eligible YouTube Partner Program creators, ad-suitability issues. They do not verify that your local files played through, that the batch is complete, or that each video is assigned to the intended playlist.
- Publish or schedule only after the details and playlist assignment look right. If you find a mismatch, correct it in Studio before making the video public.
See YouTube’s computer upload instructions and playlist assignment guidance.
Keep prerecorded uploads separate from a live encoder test
Uploading prerecorded files into a playlist uses Studio’s upload, details, playlist and Checks workflow. If instead you are broadcasting an event through an encoder, YouTube’s live guidance applies: test before going live, check the Live Control Room preview, monitor stream health, and verify the integrity and growth of any local archive file. RTMP or RTMPS ingest, bitrate, keyframe interval and encoder frame-rate settings concern the live signal, not the file-preflight checklist for prerecorded uploads. YouTube’s live-streaming advice recommends leaving bandwidth headroom, including a 20% recommendation for network capacity; that figure is for live streaming, not for validating upload files. See YouTube streaming tips and live encoder settings guidance.

Common problems and what to check
- A file has the right extension but Studio rejects it: inspect the actual container and codecs, then compare them with YouTube’s supported formats and recommended encoding settings. An extension by itself is not proof of compatibility.
- A video uploads but plays incorrectly: return to the local file and test its beginning, middle and end; inspect audio presence and sync, duration, and dimensions. A successful upload is not a full playback review.
- The wrong video appears in the playlist: compare its title and content with your batch inventory, then correct its playlist assignment in Studio.
- A copyright issue appears in Checks: review the notice and your rights to the material before publishing. A successful local playback check does not establish that you have permission to use the content.
- A live broadcast has stream-health problems: diagnose the encoder and network in the Live Control Room rather than changing settings on prerecorded files. Live ingest settings do not fix a bad source export.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your verified videos are meant to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded recordings and playlists. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
