A nonstop prerecorded livestream is not automatically eligible—or automatically ineligible—for YouTube monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams, but its published guidance does not give a specific ruling on nonstop prerecorded streams. Eligibility depends on the originality, meaningful value, and overall authenticity of the content and channel. A copyright permission or the absence of a claim does not guarantee monetization.
Does YouTube’s reused-content policy apply to livestreams?
Yes. YouTube says “video” on its channel monetization policies page includes live streaming, and those policies apply wherever videos are viewed. A stream does not get an exemption just because it is live or runs continuously. YouTube has not specifically said that every nonstop prerecorded livestream is allowed or prohibited, so apply the general standards without treating a particular outcome as guaranteed. What counts as reused content?
YouTube describes reused content as repurposing material already available on YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value. The central question is whether viewers can tell that your version meaningfully differs from its source. Meaningful transformation may satisfy the reused-content policy, but it does not settle copyright or other policy questions.
YouTube’s examples of content that may be monetized under this policy include clips used for critical review, reaction videos with commentary, edited footage with a storyline and commentary, and footage substantially edited to make it unique to the channel. Examples that may violate the policy include favorite-show clips compiled with little or no narrative, social-media clip compilations, collections of songs from different artists even with permission, content uploaded many times by other creators, and material copied online without substantial modification. These examples are illustrative, not an exhaustive list. YouTube’s policy and examples

How a nonstop prerecorded stream can be assessed
Apply YouTube’s stated criteria to both the stream and the channel around it. These questions are a practical way to assess your format, not a separate YouTube checklist or a prediction of a review decision:
- Source: Is the material your own, or do you have a clear and lawful basis for using it? Ownership or permission alone does not establish monetization eligibility.
- Transformation: Does the stream add original commentary, substantive editing, information, or entertainment value, rather than merely replaying material with little meaningful change?
- Repetition and variation: Is the same segment repeated with little variation, or does the programming offer distinct substance over time?
- Creator contribution: Can a reviewer understand how you participated in, produced, or transformed the work?
- Channel context: Does the channel as a whole show distinct, viewer-serving content rather than relying on a stream that appears copied, generic, or mass-produced?
A creator-owned recording may reduce questions about whether the source was copied, but it does not by itself establish that a channel meets every monetization policy. Conversely, using material from elsewhere does not automatically settle the reused-content question if the work is meaningfully transformed; other rules, including copyright, still apply.

Reused content, inauthentic content, and copyright are different
| Issue | What it addresses | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Reused content | Whether material from YouTube or another online source has been repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. | A copyright claim is not required for a channel to fail this monetization guideline. |
| Inauthentic content | YouTube’s term, as of its July 15, 2025 clarification, for content previously called “repetitious content,” including repetitive or mass-produced material. The policy says content should not be generic, mass-produced, or repetitive and should offer creative, educational, or other viewer value. | It is not the same policy label as reused content, and a repeated format alone does not decide every channel’s outcome. |
| Copyright | A separate system for rights and enforcement concerning protected material. | Permission, a fair-use position, or no copyright claim does not guarantee compliance with monetization policies. |
YouTube expressly says reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement and may apply even when the creator has permission from the original creator. The July 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content”; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. What YouTube may review
YouTube may assess the channel as a whole, and a reused-content decision can affect monetization for the entire channel. Its policy says reviewers may examine videos, titles, descriptions, and the channel description. It also identifies the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the largest share of watch time, video metadata, and the About section as possible review material. These are examples, not a complete limit on what reviewers may consider. YouTube channel monetization policies

For a channel built around a nonstop stream, make the creator’s contribution and the nature of the programming understandable through the work itself and accurate channel information. Do not assume a disclaimer, a permission document, or a stream title can substitute for meaningful original value in the videos.

Keeping a YouTube stream online does not decide eligibility
A cloud service can keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on, but stream continuity and monetization eligibility are separate questions. StreamNeo is one option for playing uploaded videos on a nonstop YouTube livestream: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. Its operation does not change YouTube’s originality, reused-content, inauthentic-content, or copyright standards.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps the stream running while your computer is off, supports uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
