Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThere is not enough information in the symptom alone to identify one cause. A “disconnect” can mean MediaLive lost its RTMP destination connection, YouTube rejected or flagged the incoming stream, the MediaLive input failed, or viewers experienced a playback interruption while the output connection remained open. Check MediaLive’s exact alert and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health message, then compare their timestamps before changing settings.
First identify which part of the stream is failing
Record what you observe and where it appears. YouTube Live Control Room shows stream health and specific error messages while a stream is live (YouTube Live Control Room). MediaLive may separately report an input or output problem; viewers may also report interruptions that do not correspond to a closed output connection.
- MediaLive output stops or reports a destination error: investigate the RTMP output connection and its retry settings.
- YouTube shows an ingest or stream-health error: check the message, destination URL and stream key, and output profile.
- Video freezes or disappears but the output connection stays open: investigate input loss or source delivery, not just output reconnection.
- Only viewers report a playback interruption: compare their reports with both MediaLive events and YouTube stream health before concluding that the ingest connection disconnected.
The exact alert text, YouTube health message, and event timing are more useful than the word “disconnect” by itself.
Read the MediaLive alert carefully
AWS documents RTMP input alerts including 5308 (RTMP server disconnected), 5305 (stream not found), 5307 (no audio/video), and 5309 (connection failed) in its RTMP input alerts reference. These codes describe RTMP input conditions. They do not, by themselves, prove that MediaLive’s output to YouTube failed.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Note whether the alert belongs to an input or an output and copy its full text and timestamp. If you have an input alert, check whether the source feeding MediaLive stopped or became unavailable; separately inspect the output’s status and YouTube’s health message.
Check MediaLive’s RTMP output recovery settings
For an RTMP output, compare the configured cache length, cache-full behavior, restart delay, connection retry interval, and retry count with the timing of each interruption. AWS explains these controls in its RTMP connection guidance.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Cache-full behavior: determines whether MediaLive disconnects immediately when the cache fills or waits for the server. With the wait behavior, it can wait up to five minutes.
- Restart delay: the delay before MediaLive begins reconnecting after a disconnect.
- Retry interval and retry count: determine how often, and how many times, MediaLive tries to reconnect. When the configured retries are exhausted, that output stops.
- Cache length: review it with the cache-full behavior; do not assume a change to the retry count alone will address the reason the destination stopped accepting data.
Use the configured values, not assumed defaults, when interpreting the event. A failure that occurs after repeated retries can look different from one that happens as soon as the destination stalls.
Distinguish input loss from an output disconnect
MediaLive’s input-loss behavior is separate from its RTMP output reconnection logic. For an RTMP output group, pausing delivery after input loss does not close the underlying RTMP connection, according to AWS’s input-loss behavior guidance. So a frozen or missing picture does not necessarily mean YouTube disconnected MediaLive. Check whether the input recovered and whether the output connection remained up.

Verify YouTube’s ingest destination and stream health
- Open the relevant YouTube Live Control Room stream and read the current stream-health message. Record its exact wording and time.
- Compare the destination URL and stream key configured for the MediaLive output with the intended YouTube stream. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream key when an encoder fails to start.
- Check whether YouTube reports an ingest or configuration problem, and compare that message with MediaLive’s output events. Do not treat an input alert as a YouTube output diagnosis.
- If the encoder output appears healthy but delivery remains problematic, follow YouTube’s troubleshooting path for testing outbound connectivity.
Compare the output profile with YouTube’s guidance
Check the protocol, codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, rate-control mode, and keyframe interval in the actual MediaLive output configuration. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. Its recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the applicable row for your profile rather than applying one bitrate to every stream.
YouTube also recommends testing before an event and monitoring stream health during it. A profile mismatch is one possibility to investigate when YouTube reports an ingest issue; it is not proof that it caused a particular disconnect.

Correlate timestamps before changing settings
- Write down when the interruption began and ended, including the time zone.
- Compare the MediaLive input and output alerts or events for that interval.
- Compare those events with the YouTube Live Control Room health message.
- Check source-side encoder or network events for the same period.
- Identify whether the output stopped, retried, or stayed connected while the picture failed. Change a setting only when the evidence points to the relevant layer, then test and monitor the result.
Without the exact alert, health message, output configuration, and timing, a single root cause cannot be established.

| Symptom | What it establishes | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| MediaLive reports RTMP input alert 5308, 5305, 5307, or 5309 | An input-side RTMP alert is present; it does not establish an output failure. | Inspect the full input alert and source status, then separately check the output and YouTube health. |
| The output disconnects and later stops retrying | MediaLive’s configured retry process may have run out. | Review cache-full behavior, cache length, restart delay, retry interval, and retry count against event times. |
| The picture freezes or disappears while the output remains connected | The symptom may be input loss rather than an RTMP output disconnect. | Check input-loss events and source recovery. |
| YouTube displays an ingest or configuration error | YouTube has reported a stream-health issue. | Read its exact message and verify the destination, key, and applicable output profile. |
| MediaLive output looks healthy, but delivery still fails | The available symptom does not identify the cause. | Compare YouTube health and test outbound connectivity as directed by YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance. |
What evidence will narrow down your case?
- The exact MediaLive alert code and full text, with its input or output context.
- Whether MediaLive’s output stopped, retried, or stayed connected while YouTube playback dropped.
- The destination protocol and URL, with the stream key kept private.
- The configured cache and retry values for the RTMP output.
- YouTube Live Control Room’s health message at the same time.
- The output codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, rate-control mode, and keyframe interval.
