You can send an FFmpeg stream to YouTube over JioFiber by creating a live stream in YouTube Studio, using its current ingest URL and stream key, and choosing a bitrate your measured upload connection can sustain. JioFiber alone does not tell you your available upload speed: test the actual connection, leave headroom, and run a private or unlisted test before broadcasting.
Before you start
- A YouTube account with live streaming available and a stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio.
- A computer with FFmpeg installed and an input source: a video file, camera, or screen capture.
- A measured, stable outbound internet connection. Test upload speed on the same computer and network you plan to use; download speed does not indicate your available upload bandwidth.
- A supported FFmpeg output protocol and encoder. Available encoders vary by build, so check your installed build if an option is unavailable.
This guide covers sending a feed from FFmpeg to YouTube. JioFiber plan upload speeds, account-specific upstream limits, and router requirements were not established here; do not assume a plan’s advertised download rate is its upload rate.
Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule the stream.
- Open the stream settings and copy the current stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials used to identify and authorize the encoder feed. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update FFmpeg with the replacement. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Use the ingest destination displayed in Studio rather than an endpoint copied from an old tutorial. Prefer RTMPS when supported by your FFmpeg build and the provided destination; RTMPS carries RTMP over a secure SSL connection. See the FFmpeg protocol documentation.
Choose a bitrate your JioFiber upload can sustain
YouTube recommends testing upload speed and leaving about 20% of the available upload bandwidth unused as headroom. Other devices and services share the connection, so repeat the measurement near your planned broadcast time and account for household use. If you are actually sending a backup stream, include its bitrate too. YouTube’s guidance also warns that network interruptions can disrupt a stream: Streaming tips.
The following are YouTube’s H.264 live encoder recommendations in current guidance accessed October 3, 2026. They are encoding targets, not promises that a particular JioFiber connection can deliver them reliably.

| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
As a practical starting point, select a resolution and frame rate that suit both the content and sustained upload capacity. For example, a 720p30 target is less demanding than 1080p60. Do not treat the minimum bitrate as a stability guarantee on a fluctuating connection. If the measured upstream rate cannot support a target plus headroom and normal household use, reduce resolution or bitrate and test again.
Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video. For RTMP(S), it lists AAC or MP3 audio, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For SDR, Rec. 709 is listed. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its stereo audio recommendation is 44.1 kHz at 128 kbps. Check the current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page when setting up, since platform guidance may change.

For H.264 at 30 fps, a two-second keyframe interval corresponds to 60 frames; at 60 fps, it corresponds to 120 frames. The command below uses a placeholder for the target bitrate and keyframe interval because both depend on your chosen video settings. Set the GOP interval to roughly twice the frame rate for a two-second interval, and set the buffer coherently with the chosen rate. Use matching numeric bitrate values for -b:v and -maxrate when targeting CBR-style output.
Send a prerecorded file with FFmpeg
For a file source, FFmpeg’s documented pattern uses -re to read input in real time and -f flv for RTMP output. The following is an adaptable syntax template, not a command verified on a JioFiber line. Replace every placeholder with the values from your stream and chosen encoding settings:

For a webcam or screen capture
Replace the file input with the platform-specific FFmpeg capture-device input and check operating-system permissions and device names. Camera and screen capture inputs differ by platform, so a file command cannot be copied unchanged. If the process fails before connecting, first check that FFmpeg can access the input device and supports the selected encoder and protocol.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test before the public broadcast
- Start a private or unlisted test stream in YouTube Studio.
- Run FFmpeg with representative movement and audio; a static or silent test may not reveal issues that occur with your real content.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages while the test runs. Confirm the picture, sound, frame rate, and delivery are acceptable.
- Repeat the test near the time you plan to go live, when household network use may differ.
- For the public event, keep the Live Control Room open and monitor stream health during the broadcast.
YouTube notes that lower latency can improve interaction speed but may increase playback buffering for viewers. Choose a latency setting in Studio based on whether real-time interaction or more resilient playback matters more for your event; see Manage live stream settings.

JioFiber connection checks and troubleshooting
No JioFiber-specific upload figure, special YouTube endpoint, required router setting, or requirement for inbound port forwarding or a public/static IP is established here. RTMPS streaming is an outbound connection in this workflow; investigate a specific firewall, VPN, router, or ISP-path failure if one occurs rather than assuming a general JioFiber restriction.
| Symptom | What to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg fails before connecting | Input path or capture-device permissions; FFmpeg build support for the selected encoder and RTMPS/RTMP protocol; copied destination syntax. | Confirm the local input works, inspect the installed build’s available encoders and protocols, and recopy the current ingest URL and key from Studio. |
| FFmpeg connects, but YouTube reports poor stream health | Whether bitrate exceeds sustainable upload, other devices’ traffic, and whether resolution or frame rate is too demanding. | Reduce bitrate or resolution, retest with about 20% upload headroom, and repeat under representative household network use. |
| Stream drops or becomes unstable | Upload variation or interruption, shared network use, and local network changes during the event. | Measure again near broadcast time, reduce the stream’s bandwidth demand, and monitor Studio’s health messages during a private test. |
| YouTube stops accepting the feed after a key change | Whether FFmpeg still has the old stream key. | Update the command with the current key from Studio. If the old key was exposed, reset it before broadcasting. |
| Image or audio settings are rejected or look wrong | Codec, pixel format, frame rate, keyframe interval, and audio format against YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. | Use a supported codec, CBR-style video rate, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and supported audio settings; verify the current encoder page. |
Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Having a technically valid FFmpeg feed does not establish that you have permission to stream its contents. Use video, music, game footage, and other material in a way that complies with YouTube’s policies and the rights that apply to you. A private test is useful for checking delivery, but it does not grant rights to broadcast copyrighted material publicly. For a JioFiber connection, the same content and platform rules apply as for other internet connections.
