To schedule prerecorded videos as an always-on YouTube Live stream, create or schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then connect an encoder or cloud service that can play and loop your videos continuously. Scheduling a regular YouTube upload only publishes that video at a chosen time; it does not create a live feed or keep a stream running.
What “schedule a YouTube stream” means
YouTube Studio’s live scheduling creates an upcoming event page that you can share and that may appear to subscribers. It does not start a stream, supply prerecorded video, or make a playlist loop. A separate encoder or streaming service must send the video feed to YouTube Live. YouTube explains how to schedule a live stream.
Scheduling a standard video upload is a different feature: it makes an uploaded video public at a selected time. It does not create a continuous live stream. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a native Studio feature for scheduling a playlist of prerecorded files to loop indefinitely.
Choose how to play and send the videos
You need an option that can play the prerecorded content and send it to YouTube for the intended duration. For unattended operation, check specifically that it can advance through a playlist or loop it, reconnect after interruptions, and support your planned stream length.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- StreamNeo: A cloud option for a YouTube stream that keeps uploaded videos playing and looping without a computer running at home. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
- Local encoder software or hardware: YouTube supports encoder software and dedicated hardware. This approach can keep the workflow under your control, but playback automation, recovery, power, and internet access depend on your setup. Confirm that your chosen encoder can automatically play and loop the files; an encoder alone may not provide playlist automation.
- Other cloud or broadcast services: YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams and AWS Elemental MediaLive for broadcast-grade live video processing. These directory descriptions do not establish current setup steps, pricing, uptime, or whether a service suits your exact playlist and recovery needs; verify those details with the provider. YouTube also lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output, but that listing alone does not establish automatic playlist looping.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the content
- Your channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you need to go live. YouTube says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material in every item you plan to stream. A prerecorded playlist is still broadcast content: scheduling or looping it does not make copyrighted material authorized. Check YouTube’s current copyright guidance and applicable channel rules before streaming. If you use third-party content, obtain permission or use material you are authorized to broadcast.
- Check the content’s audio and video, and decide how items should follow one another. Confirm that your playback method handles the final item as intended—stopping, returning to the start, or continuing with another item.
- Decide how you will monitor the stream and retain a copy if needed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that a longer uninterrupted stream will be archived as one replay. Plan separate recording or segmentation for longer operation.
Create the scheduled live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Choose the scheduling option and enter the event details, including its title, description, visibility, and planned start time. Confirm the time zone and schedule the event. YouTube provides the event page; it does not start your encoder.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Enter them in your encoder or cloud service. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed.
- Set the encoder or service to play the intended files or playlist and send the feed. If the event is scheduled for a later time, confirm how your chosen service handles a pre-event connection and when it begins sending video.
Configure the encoder and test the full chain
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts RTMP traffic using TLS/SSL. Use it where your encoder supports it. YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video and AAC or MP3 for audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a bitrate that matches the resolution and frame rate you are sending; use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance rather than applying one bitrate to every format.
- Configure the video codec, resolution, frame rate, audio codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval in the encoder or service. Ensure the settings match your source and connection.
- Check your available outbound upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom, rather than using all available upload bandwidth for the stream.
- Start the playback and encoder early enough to test them. Preview the incoming feed in Live Control Room and check picture, sound, and stream health before relying on the event.
- Keep monitoring during operation. YouTube recommends setting up encoders ahead of time, testing, and checking stream health; have a way to notice an interruption and act on it.
When using HLS ingest
YouTube documents HLS as another ingest path. Its HLS requirements include TS segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and no byte range. YouTube describes HLS as higher latency than RTMP. Confirm that your encoder can meet the current requirements before choosing HLS.

Troubleshooting an always-on scheduled stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The event page exists, but viewers see no live video. | Scheduling created the event page, but the encoder or cloud service is not sending a feed. | Start the playback and encoder, then check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. |
| Live streaming cannot be enabled. | The channel may not meet YouTube’s verification or restriction requirements, or initial activation is still processing. | Check channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| The stream is unstable or drops. | The encoder, service, or outbound connection may be interrupted; insufficient upload headroom can also affect delivery. | Check encoder and network status, leave the recommended 20% upload bandwidth headroom, and monitor stream health. Confirm whether your playback option reconnects automatically. |
| The stream looks or sounds wrong. | Encoder settings may not match the source, or an audio/video issue may be present in the files or playback chain. | Preview and test the complete setup; check codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio before the scheduled event. |
| A long stream does not appear as one replay. | YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee that a longer continuous stream will be one archive. | Plan a separate recording or a segmentation approach for longer operation, and check YouTube’s current archive handling. |
