Create a plain-text FFmpeg concat file listing your video clips in playback order, then pass it to FFmpeg as an input and send the encoded output to YouTube Live. This is a local file-concatenation workflow—not a YouTube HLS playlist. It works most cleanly when the clips have compatible stream structures.
Create the FFmpeg concat playlist
In a text editor, create a file in the directory containing your media. Name it playlist.ffconcat and list each clip on its own line:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'clip-01.mp4'
file 'clip-02.mp4'
file 'clip-03.mp4'
The first line must be exactly ffconcat version 1.0, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark, for FFmpeg to auto-detect the format. Each file line identifies one input; entries are read in order. For paths with spaces or special characters, use FFmpeg’s documented quoting and escaping rules, and check troublesome characters such as apostrophes carefully. See the FFmpeg syntax documentation.
Use paths deliberately
Relative paths such as clip-01.mp4 are convenient when the playlist and clips are in the same directory. You can also list paths to files elsewhere, but FFmpeg applies safety checks to concat inputs. The illustrative command below uses -safe 0 to relax those checks; only use it with a playlist you trust. Check the installed build’s options with ffmpeg -h demuxer=concat.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether the clips can be concatenated directly
The concat demuxer joins packet streams and adjusts timestamps so each file follows the previous one. It expects the inputs to have the same streams, codecs, time bases, and related stream structure. Sharing an extension such as .mp4 does not establish compatibility. Differences in stream layout or inaccurate duration metadata can cause gaps, timestamp problems, or other artifacts. The FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation explains its requirements and the duration directive, which can override a stored duration when you know a reliable value.
- Use the concat demuxer when the files are compatible and you want packet-level concatenation without re-encoding.
- Normalize or re-encode first when the inputs differ in ways that prevent clean concatenation.
- Consider the concat filter when re-encoding is needed. FFmpeg’s concatenation FAQ distinguishes the demuxer workflow from the filter workflow on this basis.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
The following is a command pattern, not a tested, ready-to-run recipe. You must supply encoding and muxing options appropriate to your FFmpeg build and configure the output destination with the server URL and stream key shown for your stream in YouTube Live Control Room:

ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat [encoding and muxing options] [RTMP destination]
Replace the bracketed descriptions with actual options and a destination; they are explanatory placeholders, not literal command arguments. The appropriate codecs, bitrate, keyframe interval, output format, and protocol depend on your setup and YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Confirm the options available in your local FFmpeg build and review YouTube’s current instructions before streaming. Do not publish a command containing your real stream key.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the stream and copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder’s private output configuration.
- Start FFmpeg with the concat file as input and the configured output destination.
- Monitor the stream in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, check the preview and select Go live when you are ready.
YouTube’s encoder workflow guidance describes connecting with the server URL and stream key and starting the encoder. It also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; platform policies can change, so verify the current Help page if archiving matters to your workflow.

Keep the stream key private
The concat file should contain media paths, not credentials. Keep the stream key out of public scripts, repositories, screenshots, and logs. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s available stream-key controls to protect the stream before continuing.
Do not confuse a concat file with an HLS playlist
playlist.ffconcat is a local text script that tells FFmpeg which files to concatenate. YouTube HLS ingestion is a separate network protocol involving TS segments and a rolling playlist. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance describes HLS-specific segment and playlist requirements, including no more than five outstanding segments, and notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Those HLS requirements do not apply to this local concat file.

Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- FFmpeg does not recognize the file automatically: Check that the first line is exactly
ffconcat version 1.0and has no leading spaces or byte-order mark. - A file is missing or the path is rejected: Check every path and the directory from which FFmpeg is run. If you need
-safe 0, use it only for a playlist you trust. - Playback has gaps or timestamp artifacts: Compare the files’ streams, codecs, time bases, and duration metadata. A suitable, known duration can be supplied with a
durationdirective; mismatched inputs may need normalization or re-encoding instead. - The stream does not connect: Verify the server URL and stream key in the private encoder configuration, then check that your output options match your FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- The stream appears in preview but is not public: For scheduled streaming, check the preview and select Go live in Live Control Room when ready.
Or let it run in the cloud
