You need at least 50 subscribers to start a YouTube live stream from the mobile app. You must also have a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, live streaming enabled, and a compatible device. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. The 50-subscriber mark gives access to mobile live streaming; it does not necessarily remove audience limits or make saved streams public.
What YouTube’s mobile live-stream requirements are
YouTube’s current mobile guidance lists these requirements:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- No live-streaming restriction on the channel in the previous 90 days.
- A verified channel.
- Live streaming enabled for the channel.
- A device running Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
After you enable live streaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours. Reaching 50 subscribers alone does not guarantee that the Go Live option will appear immediately. See YouTube’s mobile live-stream requirements.
What changes at 50 subscribers—and what does not
Fifty subscribers is the minimum for access to mobile live streaming, not a promise of unrestricted distribution. For channels below 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience for mobile streams and set their archives to private by default. Those safeguards can apply even when the channel meets the 50-subscriber requirement.

After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, YouTube says it may take several weeks to process removal of the audience limitation. If the channel falls below 1,000 during that period, the limitation may remain. Falling below 1,000 can bring the audience limitation back, but it does not by itself remove mobile live-stream access; the access threshold is 50 subscribers.

- Check your subscriber count. It must be at least 50 for mobile live streaming.
- Check for a live-streaming restriction. A restriction in the previous 90 days can make the channel ineligible.
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires channel verification for mobile live streaming.
- Confirm live streaming is enabled. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to take effect.
- Check your device’s operating system. YouTube lists Android 8.0+ and iOS 8+ as minimums.
- Account for the under-1,000 safeguards. Audience limitations or a private-by-default archive do not necessarily mean mobile access failed.
- If you recently crossed 1,000, allow processing time. YouTube says removing the audience limitation can take several weeks.
YouTube’s mobile live-stream help page is the authoritative place to recheck eligibility. A February 1, 2026 Help Community post phrases a similar problem as “I have reached over 100 subscribers but I can’t still go live”; community posts are user content, not policy guidance or proof that a particular issue is widespread. Age rules for going live
YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance sets the minimum age to start a live stream at 16. It also says that when someone under 16 participates through an adult-owned account, an adult must be visibly present. Mobile streaming versus other YouTube options
YouTube identifies mobile, webcam, and encoder as different ways to stream. The mobile subscriber and device requirements above concern the mobile method; they should not be assumed to describe the eligibility rules for every method. The official overview cited here does not establish a desktop subscriber minimum for webcam or encoder streaming.
