In OBS Studio, select a scene transition in the Scene Transitions controls, choose Fade for a gradual visual change or Cut for an immediate one, and set its duration. For a 24/7 radio stream, a single stable scene may be all you need; if you plan to change scenes manually, Studio Mode lets you preview the next scene before sending it live. Transitions change the picture, not the music: handle smooth track changes separately in your playback or audio setup.
Set up scenes and choose a transition
An OBS scene is a layout made from sources, such as artwork, text, and audio or video. A chillhop stream could use one “Now Playing” scene, or add holding and intermission scenes if you need them. These are design choices, not requirements for a continuous stream.
- Create the scene or scenes. In the Scenes panel, add the layouts you actually plan to use. A single scene with stable artwork is a straightforward option if you do not need visual changes.
- Add the content. In the Sources panel, add the artwork, title text, and any audio or video playback sources needed for that layout.
- Choose the visual transition. In the Scene Transitions area, select Fade for a gradual change or Cut for an immediate change. OBS includes both when first launched.
- Set the duration. Adjust the duration in the transition controls. There is no universally correct duration for chillhop; choose one that suits the artwork and test it in your actual scene.
- Add another transition if desired. Use the add control in Scene Transitions to make other available transition types selectable, then choose the active transition from the drop-down.
OBS documents these controls in its Studio Overview Guide. A scene transition is a visual change, not an audio crossfade. If you need one track to fade into another, treat that as a separate playback or audio-routing task and verify that your chosen method behaves as intended.
Preview scene changes with Studio Mode
Studio Mode separates the preview from the current live output. You can prepare or select a scene in preview, check its appearance, and apply it by pressing Transition. This is useful for manual changes because viewers do not see the prepared scene until you send it live.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enable Studio Mode in OBS.
- Select or edit the next scene in the preview area and inspect its sources and layout.
- Press Transition when you are ready to move that scene to the live output.
- If you regularly make manual scene changes, configure a Quick Transition with its own transition and duration, then invoke it in Studio Mode.
Studio Mode and Quick Transitions help with operator-controlled scene swaps; they do not schedule an automatic scene rotation. For a stream that should keep one image on screen continuously, you may not need to switch scenes at all.
Loop a track or playlist
Repeat one file with Media Source
For a single local audio or video file, add an OBS Media Source and enable its Loop setting. OBS restarts the file when playback finishes. See the OBS Media Sources guide for source controls.

Repeat a playlist with VLC Video
For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source. VLC must be installed; OBS’s documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The source supports playlist looping and shuffle. Its documented defaults are Loop Playlist on and Shuffle Playlist off.
Check the VLC source’s visibility behavior in the scene layout you intend to use. The documented visibility defaults include stopping when not visible and restarting when visible. If a playlist source is hidden during a scene change, that behavior can affect playback. Test the result rather than assuming hidden media will continue uninterrupted.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going live
- In YouTube Live Control Room, set up a live stream and choose an encoder connection if one is available. Otherwise, get the stream URL and key from YouTube.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select the YouTube connection if available, or enter the stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in a scene, share it publicly, or include it in a recording.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the image, audio, and scene transitions before taking the stream live.
- Test the full playback setup, including a file reaching its end or a playlist changing tracks. OBS recommends testing settings and checking that scenes work as intended before a first stream; see its Quick Start Guide.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover connecting an encoder and checking the stream in Live Control Room. Exact controls can depend on the connection option YouTube presents for your stream.
Plan for archives, DVR, and music rights
A 24/7 stream may not produce a complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local backup, and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived. YouTube also says DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams.

If a complete recording matters, keep a local archive rather than relying on YouTube to preserve a continuous 24/7 broadcast. Decide whether uninterrupted viewer sessions or manageable recording segments matter more, then verify how any planned restart affects the live page, viewers, and recordings. YouTube’s guidance does not establish one restart schedule that suits every radio channel.
Confirm that your music is cleared for livestreaming
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say you are responsible for having the rights needed to use live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Make sure your license covers the intended live use, territories, archives, and monetization where applicable.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the output with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says licensed third-party content may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Confirm any required allowlisting directly with the rights owner. See Copyright issues with live streams.

- The scene changes instantly. Check whether Cut is selected instead of Fade in Scene Transitions. Select the desired transition and confirm its duration.
- The prepared scene appears only after you press a button. That is expected in Studio Mode: preview is separate from live output until you press Transition.
- The music does not fade with the picture. OBS scene transitions are visual. Configure a separate audio transition method in your playback or audio setup.
- A file stops at the end. Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source.
- A playlist does not loop or its order changes. Check Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist in the VLC Video source.
- Playlist playback stops when its scene is hidden. Inspect the source’s stop/restart-when-hidden behavior and test the layout with the intended scene changes.
- OBS cannot use the VLC source as expected. Confirm VLC is installed and, for 64-bit OBS, that 64-bit VLC is installed.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast. Review the Live Control Room warning and check that the music is cleared for livestream use and that any required Content ID allowlisting is in place.
- The stream has no complete archive or rewind. Long streams may not be fully archived, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable archive.
