OBS Settings for a 24/7 YouTube Kids Learning Playlist in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 24/7 YouTube playlist of children’s learning videos, start with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test a conservative output setting against your actual upload connection. A practical starting point for mostly static lessons is 720p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps, and a two-second keyframe interval—provided your measured upload can sustain it with room for variation. YouTube may not archive a single stream that runs beyond 12 hours, so plan separately for any replay you need.

Set up OBS for a continuous YouTube playlist

1. Build and test the playlist scene

  1. Open OBS and run Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. Let it account for your computer and network as a starting point; it does not guarantee a stable 24/7 broadcast.

  2. Create a scene and add the media source or playlist source you will use for the lessons. Confirm that the videos advance as intended and that the audio meters respond. Test representative video motion and sound for several minutes before going live.

2. Connect OBS to YouTube

  1. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, select the available server option, and enter the stream key associated with the YouTube broadcast.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
    • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
    • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
    • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
    • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
    • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  2. Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.

3. Choose resolution and frame rate

Resolution and frame rate determine how much detail and motion you send, as well as the load on your encoder and connection. For mostly static slides, drawings, or slow educational footage, 30 fps is a sensible starting point when the source is 30 fps or lower. If the material is 60 fps or has motion that benefits from it, test 60 fps rather than assuming it will look better in every case.

Set the output resolution in Settings > Video. YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Start at 720p if the upload connection or computer is uncertain; use 1080p only after testing the actual stream. Avoid upscaling low-resolution source material: it raises the transmission demand without restoring detail.

4. Match encoder settings to YouTube’s recommendations

In Settings > Output, switch to Advanced output mode if needed to expose encoder controls. Use a supported hardware or software encoder, then match the bitrate recommendation to the codec, resolution, and frame rate. The following are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not guarantees that a connection can sustain those rates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Output H.264 recommended bitrate AV1 or H.265 recommended bitrate
720p30 8 Mbps 6 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps 6 Mbps
1080p30 14 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps 12 Mbps

Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. OBS encoder and codec choices vary with its build, operating system, and hardware; if AV1 or H.265 is unavailable or unstable on your setup, use H.264 and its corresponding bitrate guidance. YouTube’s current encoder table and settings guidance are in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

5. Measure and test the upload before going live

Run an upload speed test on the same connection and, as far as practical, the same network conditions you expect during the broadcast. The available upload capacity needs headroom above the selected video bitrate for normal variation and other network use. A result barely equal to the encoder bitrate is not a sound basis for a continuous stream. YouTube advises creators to test upload bitrate and test before starting a live stream in its encoder guidance.

Start a test stream with representative moving images and audio. Check OBS’s output statistics for dropped frames or rendering/encoding lag, and check YouTube Studio’s stream health. Verify that the playlist source advances, audio is audible and in sync, and the selected resolution and frame rate are actually being sent. If the stream health shows instability, reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate one step and test again.

Mark the audience accurately for children’s content

YouTube requires creators to identify whether content is made for kids, regardless of location. A playlist deliberately aimed at children—especially preschool learning content—is likely made for kids. Base the selection on the intended audience and content, not on which setting preserves more features. YouTube’s guidance discusses audience factors and notes that it is not legal advice: Set your channel or video’s audience.

Check YouTube live eligibility and content rights

YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; the streamer must be at least 16. It also warns of restrictions when 13–15-year-olds appear without a visibly accompanying adult. These are separate considerations from whether the playlist itself is made for kids. Confirm current requirements in Get started with live streaming.

Make sure you have rights for every video, image, and piece of music in the playlist for both live transmission and any retained replay. YouTube’s production guidance covers the stream and its archive: Set up your encoder for live streaming.

Reconnect helps, but is not an uptime guarantee

OBS includes automatic reconnect among its advanced options. Enable it as a recovery aid, but do not treat it as proof that the stream can run indefinitely without supervision. A 24/7 broadcast also depends on the computer, encoder, network, and power remaining available; the configuration alone cannot guarantee that.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted day-long stream

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a reliable way to preserve a complete replay. If a replay matters, arrange a separate recording or archive workflow and verify that it is producing usable files. OBS has separate recording controls, but continuous local recording uses storage and introduces its own failure risks. Consult Archive live streams.

Troubleshoot common stream problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or change
OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube stream health is poor Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating relative to the chosen bitrate. Repeat the upload test, reduce bitrate or output resolution, and retest with other network use minimized.
Encoding or rendering lag appears in OBS The computer cannot reliably encode or render the selected output. Try 30 fps instead of 60, lower the output resolution, or use an available hardware encoder; test each change before relying on it.
YouTube receives no signal or the stream key is rejected The selected service, server, or key does not match the YouTube stream. Confirm YouTube is selected in OBS and copy the active key from the correct YouTube broadcast. Keep the key private.
The video plays but lesson audio is missing or wrong The media source’s audio is not reaching the active OBS audio mix, or the wrong device/source is selected. Watch the audio meters during playback, check source and mixer settings, and listen to a test stream before the long run.
The stream stops after a brief connection failure Reconnect may be disabled, or the connection may not recover. Review OBS’s advanced reconnect options and test recovery deliberately; continue to monitor rather than treating reconnect as guaranteed.
No complete YouTube replay appears after a day-long stream The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. Use a separately tested recording/archive workflow if the full replay is required.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping OBS, the computer, and the home connection available around the clock is the part you want to avoid, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.

Monthly service: $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
