The change concerns how open or shut the eyelids are—not where a player is looking—and Climbey’s brief note does not say what players will see in-game.
What Climbey added
The Climbey Steam Community feed lists an October 2, 2026 update with the line: “Add support for Eye-Openness via OSC”. That confirms an integration for receiving eye-openness data through OSC, or Open Sound Control. The note does not describe a visible effect, say whether the feature is enabled by default, or explain any setup steps. Climbey’s update feed
How it relates to Steam Frame and SteamVR
MIXED reported that SteamVR beta 2.18.2 exposed eye-openness information over OSC while streaming from Steam Frame. The Valve note quoted in that report says: “Expose eye openness information when streaming from Steam Frame, via OSC. (This requires Steam OS 0.4.3, or higher). In an upcoming release, eye openness will also be available via the OpenVR SDK.” The quoted requirement is SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher on the headset. The SDK route was described as forthcoming, without a release number or date. MIXED’s report on the SteamVR beta
MIXED gives Valve’s beta feature a release time of October 1, 2026, at 18:22 UTC, and Climbey’s update a posting time of October 2 at 17:13 UTC. On those reported times, Climbey’s note followed 22 hours and 51 minutes later. The Steam Community feed confirms the update date, but not its posting time; the precise interval comes from MIXED’s timestamps.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Eye openness is not gaze tracking
Eye openness describes how open or closed the eyelids are. An application could use that kind of signal to drive a blink or squint, but the available Climbey note does not confirm that it does so. The signal does not, by itself, indicate gaze direction, cursor position, or where a player is looking; it should not be treated as evidence of gaze-based foveated rendering.
What players can—and cannot—conclude
- Confirmed for Climbey: its October 2 update added eye-openness support over OSC.
- Reported for SteamVR beta: the signal is exposed when streaming from Steam Frame, with SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher required, according to the Valve wording quoted by MIXED.
- Not established: whether Climbey shows visible blinks or squints, whether users must configure OSC, whether the feature is on by default, or whether it works with headsets other than Steam Frame.
- Not yet specified in the quoted note: when OpenVR SDK support will arrive.
So this is a small but timely integration of a newly reported Steam Frame signal—not confirmation that Climbey has added full eye tracking or a particular in-game animation.
