To raise money for charity on a livestream without donations passing through you, choose a fundraising tool that names the beneficiary and routes contributions to it, then verify the charity, donor flow, and regional availability before you announce the event. Twitch Charity, YouTube Giving, Tiltify, and Streamlabs Charity offer different ways to do this; ordinary tips, subscriptions, Bits, and memberships are not automatically charitable donations.
Choose a cause your community can understand—and verify the beneficiary
- Start with an issue that has a credible connection to you or your audience. There is no established evidence that one cause will necessarily raise more than another.
- Decide whether the event is intended to support a local, national, or international organization.
- Search for the named organization in the fundraising tool you plan to use before you promote the event. Platform eligibility can limit your choices: Twitch Charity’s directory draws from PayPal Giving Fund and its help guidance says an organization needs a PayPal Giving Fund profile. YouTube Giving is limited to eligible US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities that opt into online fundraising and meet YouTube policies; private foundations are not currently supported. The American Red Cross’s Tiltify guide shows how to search for and select the Red Cross as a beneficiary.
- Read the organization’s own description and campaign requirements. If it is not available in your first-choice tool, look for another legitimate route rather than substituting an unrelated beneficiary.
Pick a donation route that matches your stream
These tools are not interchangeable. Compare whether the beneficiary is supported, which streaming platforms the campaign can accompany, what donors see, how funds are handled, and whether you need campaign tracking, team fundraising, overlays, or alerts. This overview reflects official platform or charity documentation, not hands-on testing.
| Route | Documented use | Verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Twitch Charity | Native Twitch charity mode, cause selection, a donation button, and goal tracking. | Whether the charity is available through PayPal Giving Fund, current viewer experience and mobile visibility, and current distribution terms. |
| YouTube Giving | Fundraisers attached to videos or live streams, live-chat donations, community fundraisers, and fundraiser analytics. | Nonprofit eligibility, viewer-country support, live-chat and device display, and donation distribution terms and timing. |
| Tiltify | Campaign pages, individual or team fundraisers, donation links, overlays, goals, and integrations described in the American Red Cross guide. | Whether the charity and event are available, compatibility with your stream and alert software, and current fees and campaign terms. |
| Streamlabs Charity | Campaign creation for Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook, a public donation page, and linked alerts in Streamlabs’ guide. | Current beneficiary list and donation handling, alert setup, and current fees and terms. |
Twitch Charity
Twitch’s help guidance distinguishes its charity route from ordinary Twitch monetization. Its December 7, 2022 company blog said: “All community donations go to our partner, PayPal Giving Fund, and are granted to your recommended charity in accordance with its policies.” That statement describes the arrangement Twitch reported at that time; check current terms rather than treating it as a permanent promise.
YouTube Giving
YouTube’s help FAQ says Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute donations at Google’s request. According to that FAQ, 100% of a contribution goes to the nonprofit, YouTube pays transaction fees, and Network for Good has exclusive legal control over donations once collected. It says disbursements are typically monthly, while amounts below $10 are disbursed annually. Check the current FAQ and eligibility details before setting up a fundraiser.

Tiltify and Streamlabs Charity
The American Red Cross’s Tiltify instructions document campaign and donation links, goals, donor or progress overlays, and integrations. Streamlabs’ guide describes creating a public charity campaign page and linking it to alerts. For either service, confirm the beneficiary, donation handling, integrations, fees, and terms on the current service pages before you publish.
Keep charitable donations distinct from streamer payments
A viewer should be able to tell whether they are contributing to a named charity through a fundraising route or paying you, after which you may decide to donate some of your own proceeds. Twitch says Bits and subscriptions do not directly donate to charity; ordinary viewer contributions that a streamer later donates are not donations through Twitch’s charity tool. Use Twitch Charity, another platform that routes donations to a charity, or the charity’s own fundraising system when the aim is to give directly through an identified charitable route.

- Label the fundraiser and name the beneficiary where viewers will see it.
- Use the campaign or donation link supplied by the fundraising route, and explain who receives contributions.
- Do not tell viewers that tips, Bits, subscriptions, or memberships go to the charity unless the particular tool actually routes them there.
- Check what donors see, how receipts work where relevant, and whether the donation route supports your viewers’ locations.
Set up the fundraiser before going live
- Verify the organization. Check its listing in the selected tool and read its own guidance or campaign terms. Confirm that the displayed name matches the intended beneficiary.
- Choose the route. Review the donor experience, recipient, receipt process where relevant, geographic support, and current distribution terms.
- Create the campaign. Set a clear title and description, event date, and initial goal. Streamlabs and the Red Cross’s Tiltify guide document these campaign fields.
- Share the direct link. Place the campaign or donation link somewhere viewers can find it, and state plainly who receives contributions.
- Add optional overlays or alerts. Use them only if they help viewers understand the fundraiser. Tiltify’s Red Cross guide documents progress and donor overlays and integrations; Streamlabs’ guide describes linking a campaign to alerts.
- Explain the distinction live. Tell viewers which on-screen or linked action makes a charitable contribution and which platform actions are ordinary payments to you.
Plan around changing rules and realistic expectations
Check eligibility, geographic support, donation handling, and platform features immediately before publishing; charity lists, interfaces, and terms can change. YouTube’s help FAQ says Network for Good typically disburses funds monthly and amounts below $10 annually, but confirm the current information for your campaign rather than assuming every route has the same timing.
Streamlabs’ April 25, 2025 help article reports that more than $75 million had been raised on Twitch for various organizations since 2012, and that more than $500,000 had been raised through the Streamlabs charity platform at the time of that article. These are Streamlabs’ reported figures, not independently verified estimates of what an individual livestream will raise. No reliable average proceeds or proven causal effect of goals, overlays, or incentives is established here, so set a goal for your event without promising a likely total.
