Start with the restriction email and the notices in YouTube Studio. Identify whether the issue is a Community Guidelines strike, a copyright-related interruption, an age or eligibility issue, or another live-stream restriction, then follow any remedy YouTube still offers for that specific case. If YouTube rejected your appeal of a Community Guidelines strike, the strike remains and the removed video stays down; YouTube says rejection adds no extra penalty, but its public guidance does not promise a second appeal or automatic reinstatement.
First, identify what YouTube restricted
A live-stream restriction is not necessarily a Community Guidelines strike. YouTube says live-streaming ability may be temporarily or permanently turned off for various reasons. The email and Studio notices are the best place to determine what happened and what options apply to your account. YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance says restriction emails include instructions for appealing when you believe the restriction was mistaken.
- Save and read the notice. Note the stated policy or reason, the date, any duration YouTube gives, and any appeal instructions or account-specific contact options.
- Check YouTube Studio. Open the Dashboard and look for the Channel violations card. If a stream stopped, check Studio for strikes and listed issues.
- Classify the case. Determine whether Studio shows a Community Guidelines warning or strike, whether the problem is a copyright interruption, or whether the notice describes another restriction such as an age or eligibility issue.
- Follow the remedy for that case. Do not treat a copyright claim, a strike, a removed livestream, and a general feature restriction as interchangeable.
The restriction notice matters because the available remedy depends on the underlying cause. A strike appeal is not a universal appeal route for every disabled live-stream feature.
If YouTube rejected a Community Guidelines strike appeal
YouTube’s Community Guidelines appeal instructions say each strike may be appealed only once. If that appeal is rejected, the strike remains and the removed video stays down. YouTube also says there is no additional penalty simply because the appeal was rejected; that does not mean the original restriction disappears.

Check whether an appeal is still available
On desktop, the stated route is YouTube Studio Dashboard → Channel violations → Appeal. YouTube permits an appeal of a warning or strike within six months of issuance, and an appeal of a content removal within one year of its removal date. If the one permitted appeal for a strike has already been rejected, the public guidance does not establish a general second appeal, guaranteed manual review, or guaranteed support response. If your notice or account presents a distinct support or contact option, follow the directions shown for your case.
Do not delete the video to clear the strike
Deleting the video does not remove a strike. YouTube says deleting it can also prevent you from appealing that strike later. If an appeal is still available, review the notice and appeal instructions before taking action that could close off that option.

Know what an appeal review can change
YouTube says it may reinstate the content and remove the strike, apply an age restriction if the content is allowed only for some audiences, or leave the strike and removal in place. A rejected appeal does not add a separate penalty, but it also does not erase the existing strike or restore the video.
If a copyright issue stopped the stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party material, including other live broadcasts. It may replace a stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

- Check Studio for a strike or other listed issue and follow the remedy shown there.
- If you have a license, contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Having a license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Do not assume that a copyright claim, a strike, and a live-stream feature restriction have the same appeal process.
If the notice cites another account restriction
YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance discusses age-related requirements, policy violations, firearms policy, and cases where a significant number of videos have had features disabled, alongside copyright-related triggers. If Studio does not show a strike, do not describe the case as a strike appeal by default. Use the exact notice and any account-specific instructions to identify whether the restriction is temporary or permanent and what, if anything, YouTube says you can do next.
How long the restriction may last
YouTube says a strike prevents live streaming for 14 days. That duration applies to the strike penalty described in its guidance; it should not be assumed for every live-stream restriction, which YouTube says can be temporary or permanent. In a warning-and-training scenario, YouTube says completing policy training can allow a warning to expire after 90 days, while repeating the same violation during that period can result in a strike. Check your own notice and Studio rather than applying either timeframe to a different restriction.

Do not try to stream around the restriction
While a restriction is active, do not use another YouTube channel to continue live streaming. YouTube states that using another channel during a live-stream restriction is prohibited circumvention and may lead to channel termination. Its Community Guidelines strike basics also explains the broader risk of strikes: three strikes in the same 90-day period may result in permanent channel removal.
Keep a future stream from being interrupted
Once YouTube restores access, review the policy or copyright issue identified in your notice before restarting. For a stream that uses licensed third-party material, confirm with the rights holder whether your channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist. Avoid reusing material that caused the interruption until you have resolved the issue shown in Studio. These steps can address the underlying problem; they do not bypass an active restriction or guarantee that YouTube will reinstate a stream.
