Yes, you can aim to keep a channel live continuously, but do not treat one OBS broadcast as an uninterrupted or complete 24-hour archive. Decide what OBS will play
Choose the program format before building the scene: a live performance, a playlist of recordings, or a looped audiovisual program such as recordings accompanied by album art. For a music-only playlist, test the actual audio and any scene transitions you intend to use. A static image is visually simpler than a concert camera, but you should still test the complete program at the bitrate and quality you plan to broadcast.
Clear every element in the program
Check permissions for the recording, the performance, the underlying composition, and any visual material. A piece being traditional or classical does not by itself establish that a particular recording or performance is free to broadcast. For copyright-protected repertoire, coordinate with the relevant label or distributor and verify that your intended livestream use is covered. How do I livestream Indian classical music on YouTube with OBS?
- Prepare OBS and your output. Install and open OBS Studio, then set up the scene and audio sources for the intended program. If you are streaming prerecorded music, make sure the playlist or playback source actually advances and loops as expected; test it before going live.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder starts sending content. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter the stream key; if configuring a custom server, use the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with access to it can send an encoder feed to your channel.
- Set a sustainable video bitrate and encoder format. YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS for encoder streaming, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not more than four seconds. Its current published H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. Those figures are YouTube recommendations, not proof that your own connection can sustain them. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for the current recommendations for your codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Choose quality with connection headroom. Run an upload-speed test and select a bitrate your outbound connection can maintain consistently, rather than choosing resolution by appearance alone. Leave headroom for connection variation and other network traffic. A wired Ethernet connection to the router is an optional way to connect the streaming computer; it is not a YouTube requirement and cannot guarantee against outages.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the Live Control Room preview and stream-health information. Check that the picture, audio, and playlist behavior are right before making the broadcast public or announcing it. Test with audio and movement representative of the actual program, and listen to the public output.

Plan continuity, monitoring, and archives
Do not rely on a single stream as your archive
YouTube can automatically archive a stream that is less than 12 hours long. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. That warning is not a stated maximum broadcast duration, but it makes a single long broadcast an unreliable archive plan. If you need a copy, make a local recording and check that the file continues to grow while the broadcast runs. YouTube’s archiving guidance describes the limit.

Build a handoff and monitoring plan
For continuous programming, plan successive sessions and decide who or what will start the next one. Monitor stream health and audio while the stream runs; confirm the next session is live before treating the channel as continuously available. A local OBS setup depends on the streaming computer, OBS, power, and the outbound connection remaining available, so plan how you will respond if any of them fail.
Will YouTube interrupt a music livestream for copyright?
It may. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube says creators who have licensed third-party content should ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived livestreams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and coordinate with the label or distributor before using protected music.

Do not confuse ordinary Content ID claims with live Content ID matching. YouTube describes live matching as a specialist Content Manager feature for eligible partners, requiring global rights and exclusive ownership of the included material.
