First identify where you are trying to go live. Streaming a Google Meet meeting to YouTube depends on your Workspace plan, administrator settings and a connected YouTube channel. Starting a livestream directly in YouTube instead depends on the channel’s verification, age eligibility and restriction status. These are separate controls, so changing a Workspace setting will not necessarily fix a YouTube channel restriction.
Identify which livestream is blocked
Check where the missing option or error appears:
- In Google Meet: You want to broadcast a meeting using Meet’s “Stream with YouTube” option. Follow the Meet-to-YouTube checks below.
- In YouTube Studio or the YouTube app: You want to start a channel livestream directly. Follow the direct YouTube checks; Workspace meeting-streaming settings do not grant channel livestream access.
If the error says an administrator has turned off streaming, or the option is absent in Meet, contact your Workspace administrator. If YouTube itself says livestreaming is unavailable or restricted, check the channel’s eligibility and enforcement notices.
Fix “Stream with YouTube” in Google Meet
1. Confirm your Workspace edition
Google lists Meet-to-YouTube livestreaming for Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus; Education Plus and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade; Workspace Individual subscribers; and Google One subscribers with at least 2 TB of storage. See Google Meet’s current eligibility and setup guidance, since plan availability can change.
2. Ask the administrator to enable the feature
For eligible organization accounts, the Workspace administrator must enable Meet-to-YouTube livestreaming. Tell the administrator which account you use and that the missing feature is Meet’s YouTube livestream option. Google’s user help says administrator enablement is required for applicable Workspace accounts; it does not establish a universal Admin console menu path, so avoid relying on a guessed setting name or click sequence.

3. Get the YouTube channel approved and connect it
The YouTube channel used for the broadcast must be approved for livestreaming and connected to the Meet meeting. Google warns: “The YouTube channel must be approved to live stream. This can take up to 24 hours to get approval.” Check Google’s Meet livestream instructions for the current connection steps.
4. Join Meet with the matching account
Join the meeting on a computer using the same email address associated with the connected YouTube channel. If you have multiple Google accounts signed in, verify which account Meet is using and whether it matches the channel connection.

5. Check event setup and viewer access
Set up the livestream event before the meeting, then have the organizer start the stream from Meet. By default, viewing is limited to people in the organizer’s organization. If intended viewers are outside it, the Workspace administrator can configure access for trusted domains; see Google’s Meet guidance and administrator information about livestreaming access.
Fix a livestream blocked in YouTube itself
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified, have no livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old to livestream. Review YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility requirements and confirm that the channel you intend to use—not merely another channel under the same login—meets them.

Read YouTube’s restriction or enforcement notice
Copyright or other policy enforcement can disable livestreaming. Check YouTube Studio and the email associated with the channel for the specific notice and any stated duration or appeal process. YouTube says you cannot evade an active livestream restriction by switching to another channel. See YouTube’s livestream restriction guidance.
Special checks for school accounts
For Google Workspace for Education accounts, administrators manage YouTube access. An account designated as under 18 may lose access to livestream viewing and creation. Ask the school’s Workspace administrator to check the account’s age designation and applicable YouTube access settings; see Google’s Workspace for Education YouTube access guidance. Do not assume that a student can change an administrator-managed setting personally.

Common problems and what to do
- “Stream with YouTube” is missing in Meet: Check the Workspace edition and ask the administrator whether the feature is enabled. Also confirm you are signed into the intended account.
- Meet says livestreaming is disabled by the administrator: This is an organization setting, not a YouTube Studio control. Ask the Workspace administrator to enable Meet-to-YouTube streaming for your eligible account.
- The administrator enabled it, but the channel cannot be selected: Confirm the channel is approved for livestreaming, connected to the meeting, and associated with the email used to join Meet. Approval can take up to 24 hours.
- You can open Meet streaming controls but cannot go live on YouTube: Check YouTube verification, age eligibility and channel restrictions. A Meet permission does not override YouTube enforcement.
- Students cannot view or create livestreams: Ask the Education administrator to review YouTube access and the account’s age designation.
- Viewers outside the organization cannot watch a Meet stream: The default audience is the organizer’s organization. Ask the administrator whether trusted-domain access is configured for the intended viewers.
