Why your subscriber count may look hidden
YouTube removed the option for channels to hide their subscriber counts. In an August 2022 Help Community response, TeamYouTube said counts would be made public as the change rolled out, and noted that some channels might take time to reflect it. That explains the original rollout, but it does not establish why a particular channel’s count appears missing now. YouTube’s current live-stream guidance treats count visibility and streaming eligibility separately.

General YouTube live-stream eligibility
Regardless of the streaming method, YouTube’s general requirements say the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. A count that looks hidden does not replace or waive these checks.

Check the current rules on YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page. Eligibility is account-specific, so these conditions alone cannot confirm whether a particular channel is cleared to stream.
Does the 50-subscriber minimum apply to every stream?
No. YouTube states a minimum of 50 subscribers for livestreaming from a mobile device. Its general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum for webcam, encoder, or console streams, so do not assume the mobile threshold applies to those methods.

- A supported device: YouTube lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later.
Enabling a first mobile stream can take up to 24 hours. If you meet the conditions but the feature is not yet available, allow that activation period before troubleshooting further.
What happens below 1,000 subscribers
For mobile streams from channels with 50–999 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience, and the stream archive is set to private by default. YouTube says mobile-streaming access is retained unless the channel falls below 50 subscribers. After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, audience limits may take several weeks to clear while YouTube processes the change.

These are mobile-specific safeguards, not evidence that the subscriber count must be visible for a stream to work.
How to check your situation
- Choose your method. Decide whether you intend to stream from a mobile device, webcam, encoder, or console. The 50-subscriber minimum is stated for mobile.
- Check the account requirements. Confirm the channel is verified, there are no live-stream restrictions in the last 90 days, and the person streaming meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16.
- If streaming by phone, check the mobile conditions. Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers and that live streaming is enabled. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- Account for mobile safeguards. Below 1,000 subscribers, expect a possible audience limit and a private archive by default. If you have just crossed 1,000, the audience restriction may not disappear immediately.
- Treat a missing count as a separate display question. YouTube no longer offers the hide-count setting. Its 2022 rollout note does not diagnose an individual display issue today; use YouTube’s current account and live-stream guidance rather than assuming the count display is blocking access.
Common eligibility problems
- Mobile live option is unavailable: Check the 50-subscriber minimum, verification, recent restriction history, and whether live streaming is enabled. First activation can take up to 24 hours.
- You have fewer than 50 subscribers: You do not meet YouTube’s stated mobile-streaming minimum. The cited general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum for webcam, encoder, or console streaming.
- Your mobile audience is smaller than expected or the archive is private: These may be safeguards for a mobile stream from a channel with 50–999 subscribers.
- You passed 1,000 subscribers but still see a mobile audience limit: YouTube says processing the change can take several weeks.
- The subscriber count still appears hidden: The discontinued setting and 2022 rollout note do not establish the cause of a current account’s display. Do not treat the display alone as proof of livestream ineligibility.
