YouTube supplies the stream URL and key; your playback and encoder setup must handle looping, session restarts, and recovery. For a hands-off alternative, StreamNeo uploads and loops videos from the cloud.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and VOD rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Confirm you have permission to rebroadcast every part of each VOD, including game footage where applicable, music, overlays, and other creators’ contributions. YouTube’s terms require the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights. Read the livestream terms and conditions.
- Tell rights holders the material will be used in a YouTube live broadcast, not only in an archived video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A Content ID claim may also appear on the archived live stream after it ends. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
A game jam VOD being publicly viewable does not by itself establish that you can rebroadcast it. Get permission from the relevant rights holders and, where appropriate, ask them about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
What you need for a continuous replay
- The VOD files you are authorized to rebroadcast, stored where the playback system can access them.
- A computer-based playback and encoding setup that can send video and audio to YouTube Live. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming for gameplay and overlays; its setup uses a stream URL and stream key. See Get started with live streaming and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- A repeatable playlist or loop, plus a plan to restart playback and the live session if either stops. YouTube’s setup instructions do not prescribe a particular file-loop or automatic-recovery configuration: those depend on your chosen playback and encoder software. Check its documentation and test the behavior before relying on it unattended.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the encoder’s output, and a local recording or backup if you need your own copy.
Set up the stream from VOD files
- Prepare the files and playlist. Confirm that each file plays correctly, has the intended audio, and is cleared for rebroadcast. Arrange the videos in the order you want viewers to see them. Configure your playback software to repeat the playlist if you want playback to continue after its last item. The exact loop control varies by software.
- Create or schedule the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you a shareable page and lets viewers set reminders. You can reuse settings from a prior stream; these may include the stream key. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains the available settings.
- Connect your encoder. In YouTube’s encoder setup, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Use YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Live Control Room flow.
- Route file playback into the encoder. Select the VOD playback as the encoder’s video and audio input. If your workflow uses a desktop capture source rather than a direct file source, check that the intended playback window and system audio are captured. The specific controls depend on the software; YouTube does not prescribe a universal playlist or loop setting.
- Preview before going live. Start playback and check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and the correct event. Confirm the stream is accessible as intended, then start the broadcast from the encoder or Live Control Room according to your setup. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and keeping a local recording; see its computer live-streaming tips.
- Monitor the loop and plan for interruptions. Verify that playback advances through the playlist and returns to the beginning. Decide how you will detect a frozen player, encoder disconnect, or YouTube interruption, and how you will restart the feed. Test these recovery steps during a private or otherwise non-public rehearsal before leaving the system unattended.
Plan stream sessions around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete record of a long-running broadcast, do not depend on one indefinite session: schedule deliberate sessions and maintain a local recording or other backup. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
That threshold concerns whether YouTube may capture the stream as an archive; it does not configure the VOD playlist to loop or guarantee that an uninterrupted broadcast will stay connected. Build session boundaries and archive handling into the schedule, then check the resulting archive after each session.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose an encoder approach that matches your setup
YouTube describes both software encoding and hardware encoders. Software is a supported route for sending an encoder feed; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events, but its guidance does not establish that dedicated hardware is necessary for replaying VODs. Compare options by whether they can reliably play a local playlist, repeat it, recover after a failure, produce the output quality you need, and support local recording and monitoring. Do not buy a capture card or dedicated encoder unless your specific workflow requires it.
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and meets YouTube’s age requirement. Confirm that you are using the intended channel in Live Control Room.
- The encoder will not connect: Recheck the stream URL and key in both YouTube and the encoder. If you reused an event or changed its settings, verify that the key still matches. Keep the key private.
- The stream connects but has no picture or sound: Confirm the encoder is receiving the VOD player or selected capture source, and that the correct audio source is enabled. Check the preview before starting the public broadcast.
- The playlist stops at the end: The playback software may not be set to repeat. Enable its playlist-loop option, if available, and test a complete pass through the playlist. YouTube’s encoder setup does not supply this behavior for you.
- The broadcast ends when the computer or connection stops: A computer-based encoder depends on the device, playback process, and network staying available. Check power, sleep settings, network stability, and the software’s restart controls; rehearse what happens after a disconnect.
- YouTube interrupts the live feed: Review YouTube’s notice and the stream content for a rights match. Remove or replace disputed material only when you have a lawful basis to do so, and resolve permissions with rights holders before broadcasting again.
- You cannot find a complete YouTube archive: Check the session length. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured, so use shorter planned sessions and make a local recording when a complete copy matters.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel. Upload your VODs, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; it loops the uploaded videos without requiring a computer or home connection to stay on. It does not stream from a camera.
