You can broadcast MP3 recordings as a continuous YouTube live stream by sending them through an encoder that pairs the audio with a visual feed. First enable live streaming for your channel, confirm you have rights to stream every recording, then connect an encoder to YouTube Studio and monitor the broadcast. A stream that stays live around the clock also needs a playback setup that keeps running and a plan for rights checks and interruptions.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Confirm YouTube live-stream access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The minimum age for live streaming is 16. If you have not enabled live streaming before, activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this step well before your planned start time. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.
Make sure you can stream these specific recordings
An MP3 file is a format, not proof of permission. Owning a file or having permission to listen to it does not automatically grant the rights to broadcast it. Check authorization for both the particular sound recording and the underlying composition, including the relevant territories and the scope of the license. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
This matters for Carnatic music whether the recording is devotional, traditional, or widely available online. A composition’s status does not settle the rights in a modern recording of it. If you are relying on a license, confirm that it covers live streaming on YouTube and the regions where the stream will be available.

How the MP3-to-YouTube setup works
YouTube’s encoder workflow sends a video stream, not an MP3-only radio feed. Your encoder must therefore pair the music with a visual: for example, a still image or other suitable video. The encoder sends the combined audio and video to YouTube using a stream URL and key created in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this workflow.
The steps below use YouTube Studio and a software or hardware encoder. YouTube does not prescribe a particular looping playlist application in its encoder guidance; choose a tool that can play your files in the order you want, repeat them, and keep sending an audio-and-video signal. Test the actual setup before relying on it for an unattended broadcast.

Set up a continuous broadcast with an encoder
- Enable live streaming. Verify the channel and enable streaming in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Confirm the channel has no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days and that the person operating it meets YouTube’s minimum live-streaming age requirement.
- Prepare the playlist and visual. Put only recordings you are authorized to broadcast into the playback queue. Set the encoder or playback application to repeat the playlist if that is the behavior you need. Add a still image or video as the visual component; YouTube’s standard encoder workflow expects a video stream alongside the audio.
- Create a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or select a stream, and locate its stream URL and stream key. The exact screen labels may change, so follow the current Studio prompts. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Do not publish it or share it with an untrusted person.
- Enter the ingestion details in the encoder. Paste the stream URL and key into the encoder’s YouTube connection settings. Choose RTMPS where the encoder supports it; YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. YouTube’s published encoder settings support RTMP or RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video encoding. Refer to the current YouTube live encoder settings for the supported settings.
- Set audio and video output. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps audio bitrate, and lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio formats. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) video encoding. These are encoder recommendations, not instructions to re-encode every source MP3 to a different format. Select settings your encoder and connection can sustain, and consult YouTube’s current guidance for the rest of the video configuration.
- Send a test and inspect the preview. Start sending from the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before going live. Test with representative audio and visuals, including the transitions that occur when a track ends and another begins. Resolve missing audio, a frozen visual, or a poor connection before making the stream public.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. When the preview and stream health are satisfactory, start the live broadcast in Studio if prompted. Keep an eye on the Live Control Room for warnings or a dropped connection. An initial successful start is not a guarantee that a stream will remain uninterrupted for 24 hours.
Keep the stream running and understand archive limits
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the playback tool, encoder, and connection continuing to send data. The YouTube encoder guidance explains connection and stream-health checks, but does not specify a best playlist application, computer, backup connection, or power arrangement for continuous operation. Choose a playback setup appropriate to your circumstances and test how it behaves when a file ends, the playlist repeats, or the connection briefly fails.
Do not assume that one continuous stream will produce a single 24-hour archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance does not establish archive behavior for a stream longer than 12 hours. Check the current Live Control Room behavior if archive continuity matters to you, and plan separately for any recordings you need to keep.

Copyright checks can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, issue a warning, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast if matched content remains. YouTube also says that even licensed material may trigger an interruption unless the rights owner has added your channel to the Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
If you have permission to use a recording, ask the owner whether the channel should be allowlisted through Content ID before you go live. Keep the relevant permissions and contact details accessible so you can respond if a claim or interruption occurs. Do not treat the absence of a warning during a test as confirmation that all rights are cleared.

Software encoder or dedicated hardware?
A software encoder can be a practical starting point if you already have a computer and want to combine a playlist with a visual. Dedicated hardware may suit an operator who wants scheduled playback without leaving a general-purpose computer to run the encoder, but it adds device setup and cost. Neither route removes the need to secure rights, configure the YouTube stream, and check for interruptions.
YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a verified hardware encoder and describes its optional PlayToStream functionality as supporting scheduled prerecorded media sent directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is an official feature description, not an independent performance test or a statement about current retail availability. Compare its current compatibility, setup, and price with a software encoder; for a simple audio-plus-static-image stream, dedicated hardware may be more than you need.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the content in the cloud. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs from the cloud.
- One flat price per slot covers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, streamed as made without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account.
Monthly access is $9.99 per month. For Tamil Carnatic recordings, you still need to secure the rights to stream the music; a cloud service does not grant music rights.
