Build a small set of sustainable perks, submit your levels for review, then promote the offer and monitor how members join and stay. YouTube states that creators receive 70% of net revenue under the applicable Commerce Product Module; that is not 70% of the displayed price or a promise of earnings.
Check whether your channel can enable memberships
Open YouTube Studio and check the Earn area rather than assuming that meeting general YouTube Partner Program requirements automatically unlocks memberships. Availability depends on the channel, region, policies and applicable terms. YouTube’s membership eligibility guidance says to check that you live in an available location, your channel is not set as Made for Kids, and it does not have a significant number of videos set as Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible, including music-claimed videos. You must also accept and comply with the relevant terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module. YouTube Help: Get started with channel memberships.
The broader YPP eligibility routes described by YouTube Help, accessed 2026, include policy compliance, an available country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and one active AdSense for YouTube account or readiness to create one in Studio. The stated subscriber and activity thresholds are 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Shorts-feed watch hours do not count toward the 4,000-hour route. These are YPP thresholds, not a guarantee that memberships are available: YouTube reviews applications for policy compliance. How do I turn on channel memberships on YouTube?
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the channel you want to configure.
- Select Earn, then Memberships. If the feature is available, open the “Add levels and perks” section.
- Set up your levels and perks. Follow the on-screen instructions and check each benefit against the membership policies.
- Select Publish. YouTube reviews the submitted levels and perks before they go live. YouTube Help, accessed 2026, says this review takes about a day; allow for review rather than announcing a guaranteed launch time.

How many membership levels can I create?
YouTube allows up to six levels, with one to five perks assigned to each. Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower-priced levels, so each upgrade adds to what you already owe members. YouTube Help, accessed 2026, lists these limits in its membership levels and perks guidance.

YouTube recommends many creators begin with one to three levels and expand after reviewing performance. A compact offer is easier to explain, and it limits the number of overlapping benefits you must fulfill. Add another level only when you can describe its distinct value and deliver the stacked benefits reliably.
What perks should I offer members?
Choose benefits that your audience values and that you can consistently provide. Available formats listed by YouTube include badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat, members-only live streams, milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts and videos. The precise set of options may depend on the feature and channel.

Make the extra value clear at each level without promising a schedule or access you may not be able to sustain. For example, a simple baseline perk might be members-only posts or custom emoji; a higher level could add a recurring members-only video if you can maintain its production. Those are design examples, not required YouTube formats or prescribed benefits.

- Make the tiers cumulative on purpose. Since higher levels inherit lower-level perks, plan for the full delivery obligation of each tier.

- Ask viewers what would help. YouTube recommends considering audience motivations and asking the community what it wants before deciding what to add.
How do I price and promote my memberships?
Set prices around value and sustainable delivery
YouTube’s guidance recommends weighing audience motivations, country and region pricing, the value of the perks, and the time or cost needed to deliver them. Start with a manageable offer, make each level’s benefits explicit, and review how it performs before adding complexity. There is no universal price that guarantees a particular number of members or revenue.

You can edit perks at any time. YouTube says a creator can adjust prices for new members once every 12 months after the previous price update; existing members remain at the price at which they originally joined. Check the current Studio options and terms before changing a price. YouTube Help: Set up or manage a membership pricing structure.
Make the launch understandable and easy to find
- Explain the offer in a video and consider making an intro video that shows what members receive.
- Prepare members-only material before inviting people to join, so early members can see the benefit.
- Mention memberships in public uploads and add a
/joinlink to default upload descriptions. - Use members-only content or early access where it fits your publishing plan, and engage members through posts.
- Be clear about why you are launching memberships and how you intend to use member support; reassure viewers that the ordinary channel experience remains available to nonmembers.

How much of membership revenue does YouTube pay creators?
Under the Commerce Product Module, YouTube says it pays creators 70% of net revenues from channel memberships and certain other listed fan-funding products, including Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks. YouTube Help, accessed 2026, states this rate in the Commerce Product Module. It is a share of net revenue, not necessarily 70% of the price a member sees, and it does not forecast what a channel will earn.
Monthly estimated revenue in Analytics may be adjusted, including for invalid traffic, Content ID claims, disputes or certain ad campaign types. YouTube says finalized earnings appear in AdSense for YouTube. Its earnings overview also states: “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.” Check the current terms that apply to your account and YouTube’s earnings overview.
Track acquisition, retention and delivery
After launch, use YouTube Studio to review which levels attract members and how membership acquisition and retention change. Treat those results as feedback on the offer: a level that attracts members but is difficult to fulfill may need simpler benefits, while a level with little interest may need a clearer value proposition. You can edit perks; price changes have the timing and existing-member constraints described above.

Keep a practical record of what you promised, when it is due and whether members can access it. Memberships create recurring obligations as well as recurring payments, so fulfillment capacity matters as the program grows.
Know what happens if memberships are paused
YouTube says memberships can enter paused mode in circumstances such as channel termination, monetization policy violations, loss of monetization or setting a channel as Made for Kids. In paused mode, the Join button disappears, payments stop, and members lose access to perks. If the channel does not exit paused mode within 120 days, the membership program ends, members are lost and their last month’s payment is refunded from the creator’s revenue share. YouTube Help, accessed 2026, describes this in its membership levels and perks guidance. Monitor channel and monetization status so you can respond if eligibility changes.
