In Streamlabs, the documented setup covers tips and Bits; OBS can show the alert through a Browser source without requiring an alerts plugin.
Set up donation TTS in Streamlabs
Streamlabs’ guide, published November 5, 2025, describes TTS settings for tips and Bits. TTS is off by default, so enabling it is a separate step from adding the Alert Box to your scene.
- Open the Streamlabs dashboard and go to Alert Box.
- Select Tips or Bits, depending on the event that should trigger speech.
- Open the event’s Text-to-Speech settings and enable TTS.
- Choose a minimum tip amount and a voice. Streamlabs says its service offers over 50 voices, including multiple languages; this is the provider’s feature claim and may change.
- Review the spam filter, profanity filter, and custom-word settings. The guide says its default profanity filter prevents filtered words from appearing on screen and being spoken.
- Save the settings, then add the Streamlabs Alert Box to the scene you use for streaming.
Donor messages are viewer-supplied content. Streamlabs warns: “TTS can be a fun tool, but given the nature of the internet, it can get offensive if used to troll creators.” Set a minimum amount and review the available filters with that risk in mind.
If speech is cut off
Streamlabs’ guide suggests turning off the spam filter if messages are being cut off. That may address the issue, but it also removes that particular safeguard against spam, so test the change and consider whether it suits your stream.

Add the alert to OBS or another streaming app
The alert must be part of the scene being broadcast. Streamlabs documents different routes depending on your software:
- Streamlabs Desktop: Add an Alert Box from the Sources panel.
- OBS with the Streamlabs plugin: Add the Alert Box widget.
- OBS without the plugin, or other streaming software: Copy the Alert Box’s Widget URL from Streamlabs and add it as a Browser source.
For a provider-neutral OBS setup, OBS Project’s tutorial describes configuring an overlay with an alert provider, copying its overlay or alert URL, then adding a Browser source to the desired scene and pasting in the URL. Set the source dimensions to fit your layout. OBS lists Streamlabs and StreamElements as examples and says an alerts plugin is not required.

Test the alert before you go live
Use the alert service’s test function and preview to check that the overlay appears in the correct scene and that speech plays as expected. Streamlabs documents dashboard testing and live preview. Check the event type, voice, minimum amount, filters, and source dimensions; a working TTS setting will not help if the alert overlay is missing from the live scene.
What to check when choosing an alert service
If you have not chosen a provider, compare the actual event and moderation controls rather than assuming every alert system handles donation speech the same way.

- Does it support TTS for the event you need, such as tips, donations, Bits, or a chat redemption?
- Can you set a minimum amount, select a voice, and control spam or message length?
- What profanity or custom-word moderation is available for speech and on-screen text?
- How does the provider’s overlay get into your streaming software: a built-in source, plugin, or Browser source URL?
StreamElements’ quick-start guide discusses overlay setup, alerts that can include donation text, and chat TTS through its loyalty system. It does not provide a complete, current click-by-click procedure for donation-triggered TTS, so check the service’s current settings for the specific event you want rather than treating chat TTS as equivalent to donation-alert TTS.
