You can run a prerecorded rain-sounds livestream around the clock by hosting the media and OBS on a cloud server, then sending OBS’s output to YouTube with the channel’s current RTMPS ingest URL and stream key. The server—not your home computer—must handle the media, encoding, and continuous outbound traffic. YouTube does not prescribe one universal server size or headless setup, so choose and test a host against your specific workload before relying on it.
What you need before setting up the server
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days. Check Live Control Room before building the workflow; these are YouTube’s stated live-stream eligibility conditions, not a guarantee that a particular broadcast will be approved. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance
- Rain audio and visuals you created or have permission to use for livestreaming and any saved replay. Keep evidence of licenses, and ask a rights holder about channel allowlisting if their material is managed through Content ID.
- A cloud host with sufficient sustained CPU for your chosen OBS encoder and settings, enough storage for the media, and outbound networking that supports your bitrate continuously.
- Remote access and a plan for maintenance and recovery, including what happens if OBS or the host restarts.
Choose a cloud server for the actual workload
There is no single server size established for every 24/7 rain stream. The required compute depends on the output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and media composition. Check the host’s CPU allocation and whether it can sustain the selected encoder; also verify storage, network region and route, outbound transfer allowance, throttling or fair-use terms, restart behavior, and remote administration. A nominally inexpensive server is not suitable if its transfer policy or sustained performance cannot support a continuous stream.
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% headroom. For a cloud server, apply that guidance to its outbound capacity and confirm the provider’s transfer terms; network disruptions can still interrupt a stream. YouTube’s live encoder and network guidance
OBS’s maintained YouTube configuration is a useful baseline, but not a substitute for the settings currently shown in Live Control Room. OBS lists YouTube RTMPS endpoints and stream recommendations; values can change, and the appropriate settings depend on output and encoder choices. Use the current platform guidance rather than assuming a repository value is right for every configuration. OBS’s YouTube service configuration

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the media on the server. Copy your cleared rain recording and any visual assets to storage the server can access. Design the scene so the picture does not unintentionally go blank and the audio remains present for the intended duration. Exact headless-display procedures and automation scripts vary by operating system and host; there is no universally prescribed recipe here.
- Create a simple OBS scene. Add the video or visual source and configure the audio source so the composition plays as intended. Check that audio meters respond and that the program output shows the expected image. Test the end-of-file behavior of your media source rather than assuming it will loop correctly.
- Choose output settings for your workload. Select a resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate the server can sustain. Confirm the resulting total bitrate fits outbound capacity with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. OBS’s YouTube configuration lists a two-second keyframe interval as a recommendation, but verify current YouTube guidance for the output you select rather than treating a repository setting as timeless.
- Retrieve the current YouTube ingest details. Open YouTube Live Control Room and use the RTMPS URL and stream key issued for your channel and broadcast. In OBS, select the YouTube RTMPS service where available, or enter the exact URL, then add the key. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP secured with TLS/SSL. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not expose it in screenshots, public configuration, or command output. If it is disclosed, replace or reset it using the channel’s live-stream controls.
- Test before relying on a 24/7 run. Start with a private or unlisted test, inspect the YouTube preview and audio, and check for dropped frames or other connection problems. Confirm the stream recovers after a reconnect and after a host restart before treating it as unattended.
Keep the stream compliant and set realistic expectations
Clear rights for audio and visuals
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for necessary rights on the content provider, including music licensing rights. Its live-stream copyright system scans broadcasts and can interrupt or terminate a stream that matches third-party material. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if a rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. YouTube Terms of Service · YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance
A loop is not a monetization guarantee
Even if the channel is eligible for monetization, YouTube evaluates content under its monetization policies. Its policy page says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible under the “inauthentic content” policy; the page records a clarification dated July 15, 2025. A generic rain loop is not assured monetization approval. YouTube channel monetization policies

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the stream is started in OBS, the current RTMPS URL and stream key were copied from Live Control Room, and the key belongs to the intended channel or broadcast. Keep the key private while troubleshooting.
- Connection drops or frames are lost: Compare the stream’s total bitrate with the server’s sustained outbound capacity and provider transfer rules. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom; also check for route disruptions or host throttling.
- The stream is live but has no sound: Confirm the audio source is active, OBS meters move, the intended audio track is included in the output, and the YouTube preview contains sound. Check the media file itself as well.
- The picture turns blank or the audio stops later: Check whether the source reached the end of the recording, whether its loop behavior is configured as intended, and whether the scene remains active. Test a full media cycle before leaving the stream unattended.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Review Live Control Room notices and copyright notifications. A detected third-party match may interrupt a stream even where you believe you have a license; contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting where relevant.
- OBS does not return after a restart: Check the host’s startup and restart behavior, remote access, and OBS launch configuration. Test recovery deliberately; do not assume a cloud server will automatically restore the broadcast after every failure.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want to maintain an OBS server, StreamNeo is an alternative for keeping prerecorded videos live on YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploads from its cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you upload at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.
