To run a YouTube radio stream with a fixed station logo and changing now-playing text, send YouTube a video signal as well as your radio audio. Use the logo as a still-image video source, then render the current artist and track title as a text overlay driven by your audio system’s metadata. An encoder on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder can combine those elements and send them to YouTube Live.
What the stream needs
A YouTube radio stream is not audio-only: the encoder must send video and audio. A static logo image can supply the video, while the radio feed supplies the audio. To show current track information, the encoder must also receive changing metadata—typically artist and title—and draw it into the video. The result is one live audiovisual stream.
- Audio: the station’s radio feed or playlist output.
- Video: a still image containing the station logo and any fixed station details.
- Now-playing layer: text driven by current artist/title metadata and rendered over the image.
- Encoder and connection: software on a computer or server, or a standalone hardware encoder, with access to YouTube’s stream URL and key.
A logo image by itself will not make the text update. The text layer has to be connected to metadata that changes when the track changes.

Software on a computer or server
Software is the flexible choice if you need to arrange a logo, text, and other graphics in a scene. OBS is a graphical option for building that scene. Liquidsoap is another software route: its documentation describes creating a playlist, using an image as video, combining that video with a radio source, and sending artist/title metadata to a changing video-text layer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For unattended operation, the computer or server, audio source, encoder process, and network all need to remain available. A VPS-based FFmpeg workflow is another automation option, but example commands and settings in independent guides are starting points, not universal YouTube requirements. Verify the command against your own source, encoder version, and YouTube stream-health feedback.
Standalone hardware
YouTube supports hardware encoders as well as software encoders. AJA HELO Plus is one listed example; YouTube describes built-in graphics and layout tools including logos and lower thirds. Hardware is optional, not a requirement for a logo-and-text stream. Check current availability and confirm that the device can take your audio and metadata sources and produce the graphics you need before buying it.

Prepare the station image and now-playing text
- Make a still image. Include the station logo and only the fixed information you want visible throughout the stream. Use an image size and layout suitable for the output resolution you intend to send.
- Identify the metadata source. Your playback or automation system must expose the current artist and title. Confirm that the values actually change when playback advances; missing or inconsistent metadata cannot produce reliable now-playing text.
- Connect the metadata to a video text layer. In a Liquidsoap workflow, the documented video text operator can use metadata as the displayed text input. In a graphical scene, use a text layer or overlay mechanism that can receive updated track information. The text must be rendered into the outgoing video, not merely shown in a separate player window.
- Check readability in the final frame. Preview the logo and text at the output resolution, including on a phone-sized display. Keep the track text clear of important logo details and avoid relying on tiny type.
- Test transitions. Check what appears when metadata is blank, delayed, or malformed and when a long title arrives. Decide whether to show a station message or the last valid track information in those cases.
Liquidsoap’s examples are documented workflows, not a guarantee that a particular configuration will work unchanged with every source or version. Treat their encoding settings as starting points and tune them against your own output and YouTube’s live health feedback.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and complete the channel’s live-streaming enablement if prompted. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- Create or select a stream. In Live Control Room, create a broadcast/stream setup or choose the one you intend to use. YouTube distinguishes the stream—the incoming audio/video connection—from the broadcast viewers see.
- Copy the connection details from Live Control Room. Enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into the encoder. Use the endpoint and protocol offered for that setup rather than copying an endpoint from a third-party example.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Do not publish it in a screenshot, log, or public configuration.
- Set the encoder’s sources. Route the station audio into the encoder, use the logo still as video, and add the metadata-driven text layer. Confirm that the encoder is sending both audio and video.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Check the Live Control Room preview before relying on the stream. Confirm that sound is present, the image is correct, and the text updates as expected.
- Monitor stream health. YouTube’s health tooling can identify issues such as missing audio or video, unsupported codecs, and keyframe intervals longer than four seconds. Use the reported issue to guide changes instead of assuming a sample preset suits every encoder.
YouTube’s API documentation describes RTMP/RTMPS, DASH, and HLS ingestion options. The available choice depends on the encoder and stream configuration; use the protocol and server information provided for your stream.

Resolution, bitrate, and keyframes
There is no single bitrate or resolution in the available platform guidance that should be treated as correct for every radio stream. The appropriate output depends on the encoder, resolution, connection, and stream configuration. A static image does not remove YouTube’s requirement for a valid video signal, but it may be visually simple compared with a moving scene.
- Choose an output resolution your encoder can sustain and that keeps the logo and text legible.
- Set the video and audio encoders to codecs and parameters supported by the chosen YouTube ingestion setup.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback for codec problems and keyframe interval warnings; the API identifies intervals longer than four seconds as a health issue.
- Do not transplant bitrate or resolution values from an implementation guide without checking whether they match your encoder and current YouTube configuration.
Keep the broadcast running and recover from interruptions
A 24/7 radio feed depends on more than YouTube: the audio source, encoder, network, and process must all continue working. A local computer can sleep, lose power, or lose its connection; a server can lose its source or encoder process. Plan monitoring and recovery around the software or device you actually use.

- Use the encoder’s reconnect or restart options where available, and verify their behavior with a controlled test.
- If you automate FFmpeg or another process, consider how your service or supervisor will restart it after an exit. Restarting a process does not itself guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Monitor for silence, frozen video, stale track metadata, and a lost YouTube connection. A successful process status alone does not prove that viewers are receiving healthy audio and video.
- Keep a secure copy of the stream configuration so you can restore it without exposing the stream key.
Copyright, licensing, and archives
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. If YouTube detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; continued content can lead to temporary interruption or termination. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived broadcasts may receive Content ID claims after the live stream ends.
Before broadcasting music, confirm that your rights cover the use and the YouTube channel. If the material is licensed and the rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted. Do not assume that owning a recording, having permission for another platform, or running a radio station automatically clears a YouTube live broadcast.

YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when stopped. If you need an archive, check the resulting recording and any applicable rights restrictions; do not treat the live broadcast as a substitute for a separate recording or backup.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room receives no stream | Encoder not started, incorrect server URL or key, or incompatible connection setup | Copy the current server URL and key from the intended Live Control Room setup, enter them into the encoder, and confirm it is actively sending. |
| Video appears but there is no sound | Audio routing or encoder input | Check that the radio source reaches the encoder’s audio input and that the Live Control Room health feedback no longer reports missing audio. |
| Sound plays but no picture appears | Video source or video encoding | Confirm the still image is selected as an active video source and inspect codec and video-health warnings. |
| Now-playing text stays unchanged | Metadata is absent, stale, or not connected to the overlay | Check whether the playback system’s artist/title fields update, then verify that the text layer reads those changing fields. |
| Text is cut off or hard to read | Overlay layout or scaling | Preview at the actual output resolution and on a small display; adjust placement, type size, and handling of long titles. |
| YouTube reports a keyframe or codec issue | Encoder output configuration | Use the stream-health message to review the encoder’s codec and keyframe settings. Avoid assuming a third-party example is a universal preset. |
| Stream drops when the computer or source stops | Power, network, audio source, or encoder process | Identify which component failed, add appropriate monitoring and recovery, and test restart behavior rather than assuming reconnect settings guarantee uptime. |
| Broadcast is interrupted over music | Third-party content detection or rights clearance | Review the warning and rights status. For licensed material, ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the uploaded radio recording or playlist to keep looping without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs a YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo is for keeping uploaded videos and playlists live on YouTube; it does not create changing now-playing text from a live radio metadata feed. If that workflow fits, start the free first day.
