Add a pet cam by connecting a webcam or second device, adding it as a separate camera source in your streaming software, then framing and testing the feed before you go live. A USB webcam is the simplest option when the pet’s spot is within cable reach; an existing phone or tablet can work better when it is farther away.
Choose a pet-camera setup
Pick the method that fits the distance to your pet, the devices you already own, and your streaming software. Not every pet camera exposes a feed that streaming software can use, so check the exact model’s documentation before relying on it.

Add a USB webcam in OBS
- Connect the webcam to the streaming computer. If the pet’s space is far from the computer, consider a second-device or network-camera method instead of stretching an unsuitable cable run.
- In OBS, select the scene where you want the pet view. In the Sources panel, select + and add a Video Capture Device source. Choose the webcam from the device list.
- Check the source properties. If the picture is missing or unusable, select the intended device and review its available resolution and frame-rate options; supported behavior can vary by camera and operating system.
- In the preview, resize and position the camera feed. Crop it if needed so it does not cover important game or stream content. Keep enough of the resting area in frame that ordinary movement is less likely to take the pet out of view.
- Before going live, confirm the image appears in the preview, check focus and framing, and verify how the camera’s audio behaves in your scene. Use the source’s visibility control to test hiding and showing the feed. OBS sources can also be assigned hotkeys for this purpose.
Use a phone, tablet, or laptop as a second camera
Browser-based guest camera
Streamlabs Collab Cam is one browser-based route described by Streamlabs. Its support article says the second device needs a camera, an internet connection, and browser access.
- In Streamlabs, add Collab Cam as a source and copy the join link it provides.
- Open that link on the phone, tablet, or laptop you want to use as the pet camera.
- Allow the browser to access the device’s camera, then join the session.
- Position, resize, or crop the incoming feed in your scene. Test its visibility control before going live.
Streamlabs’ March 10, 2023 support article described one guest or second camera as free and multiple guests or cameras as requiring Streamlabs Ultra. Plan terms can change, so check Streamlabs’ current plan details before relying on that limit.

Phone-camera app with OBS
Camera for OBS Studio documents USB and NDI/Wi-Fi connection paths. Follow that app’s current instructions for your phone and OBS setup. Its documentation describes USB as the lower-latency, more reliable choice and Wi-Fi/NDI as the more mobile choice when the local network is suitable; those trade-offs are specific to this product, not a rule for every phone-camera app.
The Camera for OBS Studio documentation says Streamlabs Desktop uses only its NDI Wi-Fi path because Streamlabs Desktop does not allow third-party OBS plugins. Check the app’s current compatibility information before choosing this route.

Connect a dedicated pet or network camera
Some workflows use a pet-camera app through a phone emulator or add an online-viewable camera feed as a browser source. Another possible route is an RTSP feed, if both the camera and the ingest software support it. AVer’s OBS PTZ camera manual describes RTSP input with network and support prerequisites; that does not establish that ordinary consumer pet cameras offer RTSP.
- Check the exact camera model’s manual for a supported output or viewing method.
- Confirm that your streaming software can ingest that feed type, and follow the camera maker’s setup instructions.
- Do not assume that a camera’s phone app or remote viewing feature means it can be added directly as an OBS source.
Frame and manage the pet view
- Place the camera near the spot where your pet tends to rest, then frame enough of the surrounding area to allow for movement.
- A phone tripod can help, but it is optional; a stable existing surface may work if it keeps the device safely positioned.
- Keep the pet feed from obscuring game footage, alerts, or other content viewers need to see.
- Set up an easy way to hide and show the camera source. OBS and Streamlabs document source visibility controls; OBS also supports assigning hotkeys.
- Check the camera’s audio behavior in the scene so you know whether it is contributing sound when you intend to show the video.
Preflight before going live
- Open the scene you will use and confirm the pet-camera source is visible in the preview.
- Check that the image is in focus and the pet’s usual area stays in frame.
- Verify the selected device and, if needed, its supported resolution and frame rate.
- Test the show/hide control or hotkey so you can remove the pet view without rebuilding the scene.
- Check audio behavior and make sure the camera feed does not cover important stream content.
Common problems and fixes
