Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo keep selected words out of livestream alert overlays, set the filter in the service that creates the alerts—not necessarily in OBS or your streaming platform. In Streamlabs, open your account’s Alert Box general settings, configure the Profanity Filter and Custom Bad Words options, then save. You can choose the standard list, your own list, or both.
Filter words in Streamlabs alerts
-
Sign in to Streamlabs and open Account > Settings, then go to the Alert Box settings. In the current alert setup, the relevant controls are in General Settings; dashboard labels can change, so look for those functional labels if the path differs.
-
Find Profanity Filter and Custom Bad Words. Choose the standard profanity list, add words to your custom list, or use both. The standard list and custom list are separate choices; selecting one does not mean you have configured the other.
-
If you also want matching words filtered in the dashboard’s Recent Events, enable the option to apply the profanity settings there.

Streamlabs cautions that a blocked term can also occur in an ordinary message. It warns: “Exercise caution when banning words that could be part of a normal message. If you selected to "disable alerts containing bad words", you may not receive any alerts.” Choose terms carefully, and test how your settings affect the alerts you actually want to receive. Streamlabs’ profanity-filter instructions describe the filter and its effect on Recent Events.

Filtering is different from approving alerts
A word filter acts automatically on content that matches your configured terms. Streamlabs also offers alert moderation, which lets you approve alerts before they appear. Use moderation when a person should review an alert; it is not another name for the automatic profanity filter. The Streamlabs Alert Box setup guide covers both the general settings and saving them.
Know which content each control affects
| Control | What it affects | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs profanity and custom-word settings | Alert text; optionally Recent Events | Filters configured words; depending on the alert setting, a matching alert may be disabled instead of displayed. |
| Streamlabs alert moderation | Alerts awaiting display | Allows review and approval before an alert appears. |
| YouTube blocked words | YouTube live-chat messages | Blocks live-chat messages containing or closely matching listed words. YouTube also offers review of potentially inappropriate messages, and notes that moderation is not perfect. |
| Twitch AutoMod and blocked terms | Twitch live chat | Chat moderation, not a general third-party alert-overlay filter. Twitch’s documentation describes multiword terms matching when a message contains all words in the term; check the current dashboard wording before relying on a particular navigation path. |
| Streamlabs Cloudbot Word Protection | Chat | Restricts listed words in chat; it is separate from the Streamlabs alert profanity filter. |
YouTube’s blocked-word list is for live chat, not proof that a third-party alert overlay will be filtered. See YouTube’s live-chat moderation guidance. Twitch AutoMod likewise concerns chat; consult Twitch’s AutoMod documentation for its current details.

If you use OBS, configure the alert provider
OBS Studio does not provide alerts itself. An alert service’s overlay is commonly added to OBS as a Browser Source, which displays content generated elsewhere. Filtering its text therefore belongs in that alert provider’s settings. Changing an OBS source’s size or position will not configure the provider’s word filter. See OBS’s Browser Source documentation.

-
An expected alert is missing: Review whether the alert option disables alerts containing matching words. A broad or ordinary term can match a message you wanted to display.
-
Recent Events still shows the word: Confirm that the setting to apply profanity filtering to Recent Events is enabled; filtering alerts does not necessarily change the dashboard view unless that option is selected.

-
You need a human decision: Use alert moderation for review before display rather than relying only on a list of terms.
Or let it run in the cloud
Word filtering belongs in your alert provider, but if your separate goal is keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running 24/7, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that job: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer does not have to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video on YouTube, not camera streaming; learn more at StreamNeo. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
